Inside Monaco, BBC2 tonight - insensitive?

Am I the only one who thinks that the programme on BBC2 tonight on Monaco is a bit "off" given the job losses/economy etc at the moment! I've seen the trailers for this and my immediate thought was - how tactless and thoughtless it was to show this right now! I understand that people don't have to watch it and can turn off, but personally I really don't think this programme should be shown at a time when so many people have lost their lives, their jobs and livelihoods! Maybe I'm missing the point and this programme is a bit of escapism from the horrid situation caused by the pandemic, but personally it just feels very insensitive!

Insensitive? Just don't watch it then!

hadenoughbleach · 18/06/2020 10:13

Sad I missed it, I love a bit of escapism and gawping at how the other half live!

Pah! Curtsey not courtesy!

Yes, Caroline became an HRH when she married Ernst of Hanover- though they've not been seen together for years.

Caroline's daughter, Charlotte Casiraghi, is stunning - a carbon copy of her mum.

Prince Albert seems a nice enough chap but I bet he was terrified of his dad. I never understood Grace Kelly marrying Rainier - she gave up being Hollywood royalty to become princess of "a sunny place for shady people" ( Somerset Maugham).

I'm only into Episode 2 so far. The bit where Stephanie and Caroline were posing with the 'locals' who were all getting medals was hard to watch. They clearly did not want to be there ..

OVienna · 18/06/2020 15:32

Monaco - all HSH.

LaureBerthaud · 18/06/2020 17:38

@OVienna

Monaco - all HSH.
Except Caroline who has been HRH The Princess of Hanover since 1999.

Bet the British pizza "thieves" were set up!

Mrsjayy · 23/06/2020 11:13

Did we watch last night ? Princess of the 2 slices was judging waving of the yacht crews Grin

mencken · 23/06/2020 12:56

haven't finished last night's yet but OMG. It's not actually a life I would want as the place is so crowded, although I suppose they just jump in a helicopter when they want to go to a beach.

also proves the old saying that money can't buy taste. Or in some cases, functioning mirrors. The person trying to sell you the ££££ sparkly dress is not going to be honest about how it looks!

ArriettyJones · 23/06/2020 13:00

Oh thanks for the reminder. This has been my latest guilty pleasure but I forgot it was on last night.

MiniCooperLover · 24/06/2020 19:43

The land grab extension !! How annoyed must the people living behind it now who paid a fortune for a sea view now see a high rise ??!

AdoptedBumpkin · 24/06/2020 19:45

I've personally found it fascinating. DP enjoyed it as well, he is a bit of geography geek.

tumbleweed222 · 24/06/2020 21:41

Bad timing as it should be a programme in winter, I think.

Saw the first one and found it interesting, as I have been there three times when in the south of France.
