Neil Ferguson is an absolute dick. Why on Earth he was trusted in the first place when he was wrong on everything else he ever did is beyond me

Teateaandmoretea · 09/06/2020 12:59

He says that there is barely any settled science on the benefit of a lockdown, it’s just a bunch of vague theories, whilst there is definitely settled science on the damage it’s doing.

I really really don’t get this either. People seem to think science = answers. Er no science = trying to find answers 🤦🏻‍♀️

AnxiousElephant77 · 09/06/2020 13:00

I've turned into the kind of person that argues with everyone over this. I had an argument with a woman in the queue for the bloody bank today whilst she was telling me 'I'm sure people will lose their jobs, but health is more important.' I wanted to smack her in the mouth* I'm honestly shocked by how many people think like this, it's so, so many people.

  • I'm not a violent person
Dowser · 09/06/2020 13:00

An indoor music venue posted that they normally hold 370 people
Under new guidelines they get to house

26 😱

They can’t see themselves opening, ever, if things don’t change quickly

Dowser · 09/06/2020 13:01

Anxious elephant
I’ve turned into that same person
I’ve had to snooze long time dementory friends.
Sad, so sad

Cattermole · 09/06/2020 13:06

Ah yes, "as long as you've still got your health...."

As I recall the most massive disruption to my workplace (public facing, frontline, not NHS) was people who felt absolutely fine and had a cough or a temperature being directed to self-isolate for 14 days. Not because they were too ill to work, but because guidelines dictated that they must.
Obviously that was the appropriate thing to do.
Testing positive and being unwell are two different things, aren't they?

AnxiousElephant77 · 09/06/2020 13:08

It's just unbelievable how people can't connect the dots in their head, and somehow think it's feasible for things to remain this way.

I'm not that worried about ds not being able to go back to school this term but good lord, going past September? That's a joke.

Orangeblossom78 · 09/06/2020 13:12

Just had to go into the town centre to post a parcel, which was not a pleasant experience. masks and signs to follow in WH Smith (where PO is) tape in outdoor seating, old lady in a mask getting asked for 20p by a beggar... Bath is certainly not looking its best at the moment

Orangeblossom78 · 09/06/2020 13:13

They are also doing all this road widening for social distancing so roadworks everywhere

Teateaandmoretea · 09/06/2020 13:14

They even have a term for it ‘the new normal’ Angry

LivinLaVidaLoki · 09/06/2020 13:19

@Nihiloxica

I reckon we’d have had one for swine flu if it had been after this debacle.

That prick Neil Ferguson with his bullshit 500,000 dead in the UK model called for one, I think.

500,000 people haven't died in the ENTIRE WORLD.

Why is nobody calling out what crap he was talking (and not for the first time, the publicity-courting fraud)?

Oh my god youre right!

So far its just been masked by "well that's what would have happened if we hadn't locked down!!!"

But actually that's more than there has been worldwide, like you say.

Anyone up for a protest?

LivinLaVidaLoki · 09/06/2020 13:19

I could happily live out the rest of my life and never hear the words "the new normal" again. And "social distance"
AnxiousElephant77 · 09/06/2020 13:24

Absolutely. I can't bear it.

Bollss · 09/06/2020 13:36

I think I love the children's commissioner. She does care. I hope the government take some notice of her.

CautiousPenguin · 09/06/2020 13:38

Not to derail the discussion on here, but wondering if anyone else is suffering not only increased anxiety but also sense of unrealness ( is that a word?!) and obsession with daydreams? I am getting increasingly into escapist films, fiction etc. I am hoping this is just down to the extreme boredom and Groundhog Day nature of daily life, but feel in danger of this taking over!

Khione · 09/06/2020 13:39

@Drivingdownthe101

I’ve just seen the MN dementor I know in real life slagging off us anti dementors on another thread Grin
Does she know who you are on here? Or even know that you are on here?
Bellesavage · 09/06/2020 13:47

I've taken to pretending I've never heard of coronavirus when talking to people in shopping queues. They say things like "well we've all got to stay safe" and I reply with "safe? From what???" and let them decide whether they will explain. Kills time on the queue.

Orangeblossom78 · 09/06/2020 13:52

CautiousPenguin yes been a bit like that too, also nostalgic so looking at old photos etc. Think it is about escaping reality I guess.

Drivingdownthe101 · 09/06/2020 13:53

I don’t think she does Khione but I’m not sure. I once told her out of courtesy that i recognised her on here. She thanked me and name changed, but then posted all the same identifying details again. She may have identified me from my posts.

AnxiousElephant77 · 09/06/2020 13:54

@Bellesavage I might need to take your lead on that one because I am biting every single time. Also I live in Solihull, but I'm a scouser, so I have a feeling it's making me come over as a bit aggressive Grin

LivinLaVidaLoki · 09/06/2020 13:55

Just watching the education secretary statement.
Thought it was a bit odd when he said "if it was left to the {forgot her title but Rebecca Long Bailey}, schools would not be sending children back until the NEU told her they could do so"

Errrrr isn't that what he has been kind of doing up until now?

Dowser · 09/06/2020 14:00

This so upsets me. Like we’ve just laid down our arms and given in. And the powers that be can do whatever they like from government down to local council level.
The only normal is my house, the scrap of land surrounding it and my neighbours
I live in a deathly quiet cul de sac with a courtyard in front of it.

My home overlooks my white rendered side wall of my garage.. itS how my life feels right now..like a blank space.

In my head I’m cancelling every pathing I was looking forward to, I don’t think we will even get to the south west this year.
Last week in August is our cut off as it starts getting too chilly to go out for days after that as the weather gets unpredictable.

enjoyingSun · 09/06/2020 14:00

Great.

Wales is now on the face mask band waggon - they want three layers.

Coronavirus in Wales: Face coverings recommended for use in Wales

LivinLaVidaLoki · 09/06/2020 14:01

And for gods sake I wish people would stop going on about "The R number is above 1 in some areas" given that it is constantly reiterated that the R number is below 1 when all the data is considered and that it is unreliable when looking at a low number of cases.
