I've just got back from my walk and there was definitely something happening in one of the pubs I walked past. Lights on for the first time in ages, 2 cars outside, door open. I'm hoping they were preparing to open soon (pretty sure they weren't being robbed before someone suggests that 🤣)

HesterShaw1 · 08/06/2020 19:25

I work in tourism and have had a raft of emails over the last couple of days asking me what effect changing the distance from 2m to 1m will have on my business and whether it means we are more likely to remain viable or not. I am very confident it is going to be relaxed soon.

It was one of Johnson's decisions in his "Christ!" moment, I think. Sunak and Sharma have his ear now.

BarkandCheese · 08/06/2020 19:26

My mum regularly speaks to her late husband’s family in Belgium and they’re shocked by our 2m rule as theirs is 1m.

NothingIsWrong · 08/06/2020 19:28

Not a Tory fan but I am warming to Rishi if he pulls this off

Bluewater1 · 08/06/2020 19:30

This thread is my happy place

I think he's winning quite a lot of reluctant fans. From the start he has seemed sympathetic and intelligent, unlike the rest of them. I haven't watched it for weeks, but it was always slightly reassuring to see him on the five o clock sadly death programme.

AnxiousElephant77 · 08/06/2020 19:34

Agree re Rishi.

NothingIsWrong · 08/06/2020 19:34

Still won't vote for them though

Nihiloxica · 08/06/2020 19:36

I drove past an open pub in a town on the other side of my county.

It made me wonder if all these "outsiders not welcome!" rural places just didn't want anyone to find out they had gone back to normal Grin

justasking111 · 08/06/2020 19:37

I am broken. Had grand children this afternoon first time in 12 weeks. I can now see why mummy is on her last nerve. Feral undisciplined they were hellish. They need a routine so badly poor little mites.

Nope.

Orangeblossom78 · 08/06/2020 19:40

Yes, I read that they were going to Holland to ask how they had reduced to 1m (hint, they didn't go for 2m in the first place, most countries didn't)

rookiemere · 08/06/2020 19:40

This little gem appeared on FB. What if 2020 is just generally crap and we accept that ?

rookiemere · 08/06/2020 19:43

Oops that would have worked better had I attached it

rookiemere · 08/06/2020 19:45

Oh sod it, it was a tedious poem about how 2020 has been sent to try us and we can all work together to make a brighter new future except those of us with poor technological skills

Ghostlyglow · 08/06/2020 19:46

A local pub for local people? @Nihiloxica Wink

BogRollBOGOF · 08/06/2020 19:48

I was pleasantly surprised at how many cafes were operating as takeaway in the village I went to today.

rookiemere · 08/06/2020 19:49

Pretty much all the cafes and restaurants now operating as takeaways in Edinburgh now.

Just watching this and felt so sad for these young people. First for the lockdown and second as this seems to be seen as acceptable. What about their education? What about their lives?

Orangeblossom78 · 08/06/2020 19:53

"I don't see how anyone makes money on two-metre guidance, it becomes an impossible situation to work to," he says.
Other countries use lower numbers for social distancing recommendations. In France, for example, the recommended distance between customer and staff is one metre.
The Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) said it was working with industry "at pace to develop safe ways for pubs, restaurants, bars and cafes to reopen at the earliest opportunity it is safe to do so".
The government is expected to release guidelines on operating in a "safe" manner as soon as this week, so firms have time to prepare before reopening in England.

Mr Drakeford said those holidaying in self-contained accommodation would still be governed by the five mile advice once they arrived, just as local residents will be.

Wales^^ this cant be right surely? 😂😂

They said ‘later in the summer people might be able to travel to self contained places’ then this little gem.

Drivingdownthe101 · 08/06/2020 19:55

To be fair, I don’t generally want people I don’t know breathing down my neck anyway. 1m distance at all times is fine by me.

Teateaandmoretea · 08/06/2020 19:55

Are they intending to stop Welsh people travelling more than 5 miles like forever?
