Unlikely to have cleaner for some time. How often do you...

Vacuum throughout
Deep Clean bathrooms
Changing bedding
Deep Clean hard floors
other odds and ends

Used to having a cleaner for 4 hours a week. She’d deep clean bathrooms, polish hard floors and vacuum throughout. Occasionally clean windows when needed And complete oven clean maybe 2x a year?
She was a whizz. She’s never have to tidy so focus was entirely cleaning.

In addition to what cleaner did, I would clean kitchen thoroughly every day including external cupboard doors etc , vacuum dining area daily. Clean kitchen floors maybe 3x a week on top of cleaner deep clean and change bed weekly (occasionally children’s fortnightly. I change my pillow case 2x a week).

Been furloughed and unlikely to have cleaner for at least short term. So increasing cleaning.
Interested in frequency of the above if anyone cares to share please?!

Echo suggestion to use TOMM, game changer!

Vacuum throughout - downstairs daily, upstairs once a week

Deep Clean bathrooms - daily wipe down, deep clean every 8 weeks
Changing bedding - weekly

saveeno · 07/06/2020 20:16

My DH does all that. I look after all the other stuff. It works for us.

I do meals, and take care of the laundry stuff. That's good.

Women need to take a step back about cleaning really. It is accepted that women are the cleaners.

mbosnz · 07/06/2020 20:16

Yes, she sometimes arrives 15 minutes early to play with the cat. My cat is sooo pissed off to be stuck here with me.

That is my kind of cleaner. Actually, that's the kind of cleaner I would be.

I have a husband for all that. He also makes good cakes.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 07/06/2020 20:21

I think we did all of this when lockdown started and then sort of got distracted.

DH might have hoovered twice and I did the bathrooms. I'm trying to recall when I did some dusting.

It's all been blissfully iron free living as well.

RHTawneyonabus · 07/06/2020 20:23

Everything gets done throughly once a week. So bathrooms cleaned top to bottom, hard floors hoovered and mopped, hoovering and dusting done and beds changed. 5 bed house and takes me about 2 hours on Friday or Saturday. I don’t do much the rest week although I might run the hoover round downstairs or wipe the sink if I get a chance.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 07/06/2020 20:23

I haven't cleaned the oven in 20 years...

Oh fuck, I meant to do this last Christmas.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 07/06/2020 20:24

I did clean all the chandeliers and lampshades and I hoovered the books in all the bookcases. Bet your cleaner doesn't do that!

Samtsirch · 07/06/2020 20:25

Hoover every day ( dog sheds)
Clean bathroom twice a week.
Change bedding weekly .
Clean kitchen daily, or after use.
Very small house so it doesn’t take long to hoover / clean.

Christmashope19 · 07/06/2020 20:25

Change bedding weekly
Hoover upstairs weekly
Clean toilet/bathroom every second day
Dust every second day
Hoover and mop every second day
Steam clean floors weekly

I don't really have a schedule. I just do things as I see them.

Today I cleaned the fridge out (as in wiped it down internally) as the shopping was coming and when getting rid of past it food, I saw the shelves were a bit dirty. I did a load of towels as I think we have all used them twice each (we have our own towels and I aim to wash after 2 uses unless dirty). I hoovered and wiped all the mucky mirrors in the house, along with the patio door as I could see prints all over.

Tomorrow I might notice the bathroom is a bit grubby round the edges, or the bedding all looks like it needs washing.

I live in a very tidy, clean house with 3 boys. It works for me, no schedule. I always get comments on how tidy and clean the house is, so my method for the last 18 years must be working! I do some sort of cleaning or tidying for about 30 mins each day I expect. Don't do deep cleans anymore. It isn't necessary. I am pretty thorough when I do a job eg. Hoovering will always involve hoovering the skirtings, the edges of anything that gets dusty, going up high with it to get cobwebs and dust etc. It suits me and my lifestyle.

cookiemonster5 · 07/06/2020 20:29

Hoovering downstairs everything 2 days or more if needed including kitchen.

Upstairs and the stairs hovered twice a week.

Floors mopped after hoovering. Dusting done at the same time as well.

Bedding once a week.

Windows weekly inside and out (weather permitting).

Bathroom 2-3 times a week with floor as well.

No deep clean needed as such because I keep on top of everything other than top of cupboards/fridge in the kitchen every couple of months and oven as and when needed along with the inside of the fridge.

BackforGood · 07/06/2020 20:30

Far less than most people on this thread.

Since the country has shut down, cleaning has reverted to what we did before I had a cleaner, which is responsive to noticing things.
Certainly nothing like the frequency most people are doing.

Megatron · 07/06/2020 20:32

Women need to take a step back about cleaning really. It is accepted that women are the cleaners.

Lots of people have said which jobs get done @saveeno but it doesn't mean that they do them themselves. I don't. All the stuff that gets done in this house is done between us, I certainly don't consider cleaning to be 'women's work'. We all live here.

TheExterminatingAngel · 07/06/2020 20:39

The answer to all of these is: when I notice that they need doing. This can take a very long while.

Clowningaround · 07/06/2020 20:40

I have low standards so my only tip would be to lower yours.
I clean but not deeply, just general stuff as and when required.

KingOfDogShite · 07/06/2020 20:42

Do most of those things about once every ten days except the floors which get mopped a couple of times a year.

I do a little cleaning as possible to be honest. Life is too short for that shit.

Tappering · 07/06/2020 20:43

Vacuum throughout - weekly.
Deep Clean bathrooms - basic clean weekly (wipe showers, clean basin, clean toilet, empty bins, vac and mop floor). Full on deep clean monthly (steam clean shower seals and scrub grout).
Changing bedding - weekly.
Deep Clean hard floors - hard floors vacced and mopped weekly. Carpets upstairs vacced weekly.
other odds and ends - damp dust weekly. Wipe skirting boards monthly. Clean oven as and when needed.

FreakStar · 07/06/2020 20:49

I thoroughly clean the bathroom once a week- although might wipe toothpaste splashes off taps and wipe toilet seat and put tiny bit of bleach down daily.

Hoover and dust bedrooms and change bedding once a week.

Mop kitchen and hall hard floors once a week, take crumbs up daily with hand-held dyson- clean surfaces, hob, sink after each meal after doing dishes and clearing away. Might do quick mop mid-week if sticky marks and muddy footprints.

Dust and hoover dining room and living room once a week and pick up/hand-hoover any obvious bits on floor daily.

saveeno · 07/06/2020 20:49

Megatron.

This site is mostly populated by women. They do the cleaning mostly from what I see about mopping, changing beds, looking after pets, cleaning up after kids and so on.

Sorry now, but women will do this, maybe not you and partner/husband, but it really is accepted WRT women. Chars.

Annebronte · 07/06/2020 20:53

I just clean rooms when they look dirty. That means kitchen every day, other rooms variable. I can’t wait for my cleaner to come back.

BadAlice · 07/06/2020 20:54

Vacuum throughout - Every Saturday DH does his weekly dust and hoover. It’s in his diary and everything. We probably hoover once or twice throughout the week too. If I was left in charge it would probably be more casual!
Deep Clean bathrooms - Bathroom sink and loo get cleaned weekly(ish - it’s my job and I don’t have DH’s zest for organisation and schedules!) with a bit of bleach thrown in the loo as required, bath more like fortnightly.
Changing bedding - Weekly(ish - yeah, clearly one of my jobs again!)
Deep Clean hard floors - Literally never? Unless DH does secret mopping, which I wouldn’t put past him tbh. I spot mop the bits that need doing. Toddler DS yet to die from manky house disease.

LovingLen · 07/06/2020 20:59

Not sure what a deep clean is as opposed to a normal clean, do you just scrub or mop a bit harder

saveeno · 07/06/2020 21:02

I think women are conditioned to be cleaners.

It is great when DP/DH helps, but in general it is a woman's work.

Not here though! himself will do the business no problem, he has been well trained.

Have to say there is a total buzz through the house when expecting visitors! But that is rare/non existent now so happy days.

Shoxfordian · 07/06/2020 21:02

We have our cleaner back now, have had for a few weeks tbh
