Unlikely to have cleaner for some time. How often do you...

Vacuum throughout
Deep Clean bathrooms
Changing bedding
Deep Clean hard floors
other odds and ends

Used to having a cleaner for 4 hours a week. She’d deep clean bathrooms, polish hard floors and vacuum throughout. Occasionally clean windows when needed And complete oven clean maybe 2x a year?
She was a whizz. She’s never have to tidy so focus was entirely cleaning.

In addition to what cleaner did, I would clean kitchen thoroughly every day including external cupboard doors etc , vacuum dining area daily. Clean kitchen floors maybe 3x a week on top of cleaner deep clean and change bed weekly (occasionally children’s fortnightly. I change my pillow case 2x a week).

Been furloughed and unlikely to have cleaner for at least short term. So increasing cleaning.
Interested in frequency of the above if anyone cares to share please?!

What do u mean by deep clean bathroom? And what do u mean by deep clean floor
I tidy daily and wipe sides. Sweep daily and wash floors downstairs once a week maybe bit longer in lounge as its wood. I clean bathroom every other day with anti bac and bleach I also dont own a mop so floor is done on hands and knees

Flynn999 · 07/06/2020 21:07

Hoover downstairs probably twice a week although sometimes more (depending if it’s dirty). Steam clean once a week. (Lounge, kitchen, hallway)
Upstairs only once a week and I’ll do the stairs once a week, but we don’t wear shoes in the house and don’t have pets etc. So it doesn’t need it anymore than that.

Bathrooms once a week for a proper clean and I’ll wipe down the sinks etc in between if they need it. Tend to Chuck a squirt of bleach in there when needed.

Kitchen, I’m very much clean as we go. I forever cleaning the bloody thing. Never looks that clean either! I clean the hob maybe once a week and fridge is done as needed. Same as the kitchen cupboards(outside) probably roughly once a month. Inside probably once every 6 months unless something gets spilled.

Oven.... less said the better!

I change the beds once a week. I bloody love fresh bed sheets! But I only have my bed and toddler bed to do.

I thought cleaners were allowed back now? We leave the house and she wears PPE....

When I say steam clean I mean we have laminate floors downstairs.

saveeno · 07/06/2020 21:08

I wonder how many paid cleaners are men? Bet few or none.

Touche. Women's work. I don't buy into it at all. Cleaning is not something I relish. But luckily DH will do it for us all. A treasure. I do other stuff that he is bored with. Happy days.

redbigbananafeet · 07/06/2020 21:09

Cleaners are allowed to work as they can't work from home

scrivette · 07/06/2020 21:09

No routine, just when I have time/it looks like it needs doing.

The bathroom floor is usually wiped over every couple of days when I dry it after the children have a bath as they soak the floor.

BarbaraofSeville · 07/06/2020 21:11

I'd also like to know what people mean by 'deep cleaning', that sounds like something you'd only do during spring cleaning, ie once a year, not weekly.

Cleaning the kitchen cupboard fronts daily sounds like overkill, as does thrice weekly floor mopping. If it gets dirty that quickly, perhaps you need to stop throwing food about so much?

trilbydoll · 07/06/2020 21:12

We had a cleaner for 3 hours a fortnight and did very little in between. Now obviously we have no cleaner, and I'm worried she'll refuse to come back if we descend into total squalor so we are hovering around the 'no killer germs' level.

It's just the most pointless task. It just gets dirty again. Cooking is pretty bad, as it gets eaten in about 10% of the time it took to cook, but cleaning is top of the list of things I hate doing.

crazychemist · 07/06/2020 21:13

Wow. This thread is a bit of an eye opener. I don’t do anything like this amount of housework! How do you find the time????

Wewearpinkonwednesdays · 07/06/2020 21:18

I hoover every day, steam mop once or twice a week as needed. Change beds whenever they need it. Bathroom deep cleaned once a week, wiped over at least once a day.

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 07/06/2020 21:23

@SerendipitySunshine

Stupid question, what does deep cleaning involve please?
I would also like to know, but I think it’s a secret.
Exploring · 07/06/2020 21:25

I wish there was a standard definition for Deep Clean, Thorough Clean, and Just A Quick Whizz Round (and then can you just... X...y....z....) To me they compare to end of tenancy spotless, relatives coming to stay, or friends dropping in for a cuppa.

LovingLen · 07/06/2020 21:26

Does deep cleaning a bathroom mean emptying all the cupboards and cleaning inside them and cleaning light fittings and stuff like that

PositiveLife · 07/06/2020 21:28

When I'm really, really bored Grin

As a single parent, working full time and having a load of hobbies, I don't have much time to clean.

I sling the hoover round if I have a rare evening in (more often now) and haven't anything more urgent to do.

The bath gets a decent clean after I've washed my caving gear in it.

Kitchen worktops get a wipe over when they need it (worktop never looks clean or I might be tempted to do it more thoroughly and more often)

Dusting - when the kids want to earn extra money Wink

Bedding/towels depends on when I have time, what they've been used for, what else needs washed

MrsKoala · 07/06/2020 21:31

Not sure about deep cleaning or non deep cleaning. I just clean the same.

Pre covid/term time I swept downstairs (hard floor) every 2-3 days and mopped once a week, hoovered rug in family room every other day. Cleaned bathrooms once a week. Hoovered upstairs once a week. Changed beds fortnightly. Cleaned kitchen cupboards once a week.

Covid/summer hols I sweep every other day and mop every 3rd day hoover rug 1-3 times a day. Hoover upstairs twice a week. Clean bathrooms every 3-4 days. Clean kitchen twice a week. Still change the beds fortnightly tho.

The floors get much dirtier in the summer with the patio doors open and the kids treading mud, dirt and grass in.

NarcissisticUpbringing · 07/06/2020 21:35

I’ve found the best way is to do a general quick hoover and tidy each day and deep clean one area no matter how small then after a few weeks it’s really made a difference
I still miss my cleaner though a lot !

WarriorsComeOutToPlayay · 07/06/2020 21:37

I just looked up the TOMM method. Fuck that shit.

MrsKoala · 07/06/2020 21:38

Deep cleaning for me is windows cleaned and all frames and woodwork, skirtings etc. Cupboards inside and out. Carpet/rugs, curtains and furniture being steamed/washed etc. Basically an end of tenancy clean. I’ve not done that in this house ever and we’ve lived here 4 years.

Fiddlesticks345 · 07/06/2020 21:39

Yep this!!!
saveeno · 07/06/2020 21:40

Only women bleed, and clean.

Honestly. They do. Well it is their choice I suppose, but many women make the choice about cleaning. Not much can be done about that.

Why do many men (not all) see housework as women's work.

We haven't come a long way really.

🤣
LovingLen · 07/06/2020 21:42

I have a feeling that a deep clean is something that I only do when we re-decorate and involves moving furniture.

Jennyie1 · 07/06/2020 21:44

I clean toilets/sinks/showers as I use them. Takes minutes.

Hoover every day.

I don't and have never had a routine. If it needs doing I do it.

I clean the kitchen if I'm in it cooking/making a brew/sat around pretending to do life admin.

I dislike cleaning, I don't get any pleasure from it. I don't stand back and admire a lovely clean kitchen, I just yearn for the time I've wasted.

Pinkyyy · 07/06/2020 21:45

Vacuum throughout- daily

Deep Clean bathrooms- floor done daily, bath/shower/sink after each use, tiles once a week

Changing bedding- once a week

Deep Clean hard floors- daily

other odds and ends-
Kitchen and living room cleaned daily
Fridge once a month
Inside kitchen cupboards once a month (good way to check what's nearing its use by date)
