Currently lying in A&e with a kidney stone blocking urethra. I have never been in this much pain and it's horrific! Being pumped with pain meds and fluids but going to need surgery. Can anyone keep me company- am lonely terrified and sad!

Ouch I hope you're okay! You're in the best place possible, take it easy. When I was younger I had an intense pain whenever I peed and eventually passed a tiny bladder stone. A kidney stone must be absolute agony! Do you know when your surgery will be?

Sportsnight · 07/06/2020 00:11

That sounds rotten. Weirdly friend had this happen last week completely out of the blue toi - he’s now back home and fine. Hope you will be soon too. Will they operate tonight?

Munxx · 07/06/2020 00:12

Sending a big virtual hug . I'm also lying up in pain after collapsing today due to nerves in my back. Dosed up to the eyeballs and no hope of sleep. I hope you get some respite from the pain soon.

Poor thing!!! It bloody hurts. My boyfriend suffers quite a lot with kidney stones. He passed the last one in the shower and then brought it round for me to see Confused

lyingonthesofa · 07/06/2020 00:20

Thank you. They're deciding about surgery tonight but leaning towards the morning. Am feeling overwhelmed as was fine until 6pm. I'm hoping the nice young registrar has gone to get morphine as nothing is working. Thank you everyone. Helps me feel a bit less lonely.

I hope the pain meds kick in soon, Lying, or that they give you a pre-med injection before the surgery. They generally do the trick.

I'm thinking of you. It'll be over soon.
Take care.

willowtree81 · 07/06/2020 00:25

Hope you feel better soon! My partner had a small operation today and said the Covid measures were good, may be better that this is happening to you now than at the start of the pandemic when places were less well equipped / less used to social distancing measures. Hope you get some relief from the pain Thanks

lyingonthesofa · 07/06/2020 00:31

Thank you. Once the pain is a bit better I will be able to cope a bit better I think

Sending you lots and lots of Love
Gosh that does sound painful 😢😣😣

PeppersYellow · 07/06/2020 00:36

Hopefully they'll bring you something stronger soon. Keep thinking to yourself that this is temporary and once they've operated that you'll be fine. Picture yourself at home relaxing. Take care.

fridaynight · 07/06/2020 00:47

Dear Sofa, I'm praying that the pain will ease and that the stone will move. You are loved X

Forgothowtospell · 07/06/2020 01:04

💐 Hope you are sufficiently drugged up soon 😊 keep us updated on how you get on, if you can.

Haggisfish · 07/06/2020 01:06

Oooh poor you! Hope morphine helps and that op goes well..count down the hours till it’s gone!

Happymum12345 · 07/06/2020 01:06

Bless you! It sounds awful. The morning morphine should help ease the pain. I’m hope the operation goes as smoothly as possible & you’ll be right as rain soon. Flowers

lyingonthesofa · 07/06/2020 01:07

Thank you. Have to try another pain med first- if no improvement in 30 mins I'm allowed morphine.
Given up hoping to sleep- also not helped by the four other ladies on the Ward (who are let's say well past retirement age ) being quite confused and shouting out because they're worried about their bag etc, but also snore loudly.

DoubleDessertPlease · 07/06/2020 01:19

Keeping my fingers xd your pain eases, or you get that morphine soon. I try to imagine being on a lovely quiet warm beach with a gentle sea breeze. Take care hope you’re feeling better soon.

LadyConstanceDeCoverlet · 07/06/2020 01:21

Hi - I hope the pain meds are kicking in. Focus on how much better you'll feel after the operation. If it's too noisy to sleep, is it worth asking whether they have another ward or side room you can move to?

lyingonthesofa · 07/06/2020 01:39

Morphine has been had! Waiting for it to kick in. Hoping it will also knock me out a bit so I can sleep. Currently it's the pain that's preventing sleep so we'll see. Any amusing anecdotes to distract me a bit? Thank you everyone- I do appreciate the company a lot!

Hi OP!
Currently on a night shift on a break ( health care support worker) you're in the best hands I really hope your okay!! Fingers crossed they get you in early tommorrow xx

GrumpyHoonMain · 07/06/2020 01:49

Try an app like Calm or Headspace. Often pain causes anxiety which can cause even more pain - so if you can calm yourself you might get a little relief.

managedmis · 07/06/2020 01:51

Oh god you poor thing, massive 🍷 and 💐

lyingonthesofa · 07/06/2020 01:54

Staff have been brilliant. All really care and want to help. Yet again so grateful for the NHS.

passmethewineplease · 07/06/2020 02:17

You have my full sympathy OP! I’ve been there, the surgery wasn’t as bad as I was expecting if I’m honest! I was told kidney stones don’t cause pain until they are on the move, not sure how correct that is!

I hope the morphine kicks in for you soon and you manage to grab a bit of sleep hell knows it’s hard to get any when in hospital.

Bloodybridget · 07/06/2020 02:22

lyingonthesofa I hope the morphine is working now, maybe you're even asleep! I had a suspected kidney stone early last year, and the pain was indeed awful (I say suspected because by the time I had a scan, it couldn't be seen, but I certainly had all the symptoms). Sending you very good wishes for surgery asap, and a good recovery.

lyingonthesofa · 07/06/2020 02:24

Still awake but slightly calmer! Thanks for messaging will of course keep you all posted.
