Misconceptions people have about you

Do you find people assumenthings about you? I get this a lot. Just silly things. Like, people assume I love stationery. I don't. I think it's useful to carry a biro but I couldn't care less what it looked like, and I haven't carried a pencil case for the past 20 years.

That I'm stuck up, high maintenance, a bitch and a proper snob.
I'm really none of those things, and have had several apologies once people get to know me 😂
resting bitch face has definitely ruined several social situations for me 😂

Purbal
me too - I'm Christian, my husband isn't.
I think he's a much better person than me.

Stuck up, stand offish = I'm just shy
Sweet and innocent= actually no you would struggle to shock me, heard ,seen and done it all comes with the my job.
Posh= nope state educated just married a posh boy.

I also get the stand-offish thing when I'm really just shy.

Moreover though, lots of people have a misconception that I'm constantly happy, I have sailed through life without any problems, that I couldn't possibly understand mental illness. In reality I suffer deeply from depression, anxiety and PTSD. I've had various traumatic incidents in childhood and early adulthood and some days I really struggle to cope. Yet I constantly get comments, even from those who hardly know me, that I couldn't possibly understand or even empathise with difficulties they are experiencing. It can get quite upsetting at times and the worst is that these comments often come from the same people who constantly post memes about the seemingly happiest people having internal struggles. I guess it's related to the shy/stand-offish thing though.

People seem to think that I am a lot younger than I am. They always seem to think I am late teens to early twenties when actually I am 29. I love seeing the looks on peopls faces when they find out how old I really am Grin.

Mangofandangoo · 08/06/2020 12:00

@TooOldForSims I can second that, I'm 32 and people have always thought I'm much younger than I am. When my daughter was little I felt that the older generation looked down on me because I was a ' young mother' (I was 29)

It's a curse because of people think that you are young then they speak to you in certain way as if you can't possibly have any idea what the world is like

I've owned my own home for 10 years and have been asked ' if my parents are home'

Funny thing is, I don't actually feel like I look drastically younger than I am

spikyplants · 08/06/2020 12:06

All my life I've been presumed to be a snob and a swot. Yes, I have RBF and what have been described as intense eyes but I'm hugely socially anxious, quiet and riddled with CPTSD and consequently have underachieved. So I'm neither of these things. But I suppose I am difficult because of these things.

Miriel · 08/06/2020 12:15

That I'm confident - I'm really not, I'm just opinionated.

I don't have much money but other working-class people often assume I'm middle-class, weirdly. Middle-class people don't - the Estuary accent gives it away instantly!

I also get mistaken for a librarian quite often when I'm in libraries. I think I'd enjoy being a librarian, but I'm not one!

People probably think certain things about me based on my nails. I love long acrylic nails, always have. I have them roughly an incredible from the end of my finger. I know they are hated, especially on here. And people wonder why I have them so long and how I do anything with them. But I love them

soundsystem · 08/06/2020 13:45

That I like The Smiths.
