Exciting Friday thread: do you own a lasagne dish?

..that fits exactly one sheet of standard dried lasagne? With no pasta surgery required? If so can you tell me where you bought this mythical dish?

I don’t. I have to do the snap/mosaic technique.

overnightangel · 05/06/2020 20:40

No but I have a pack of lasagne dish shaped pasta

clairey111 · 05/06/2020 20:41

I often think this- glad it's not just me! I tend to use fresh lasagne sheets so easier to shape but still annoying and always need a little Bit more!

Some manufacturer is missing a trick!

Angel tell me more. I'm willing to buy dish shaped pasta as a compromise, I'm very reasonable like that.

AtleastitsnotMonday · 05/06/2020 20:43

I do but it still doesn’t fit the sheets in perfectly, so I still have to the mosaic!

Faraway20 · 05/06/2020 20:43

Fresh lasagne would be easier, but I never remember when I'm shopping.

It’s not that simple, I made lasagna tonight with Sainsbury’s lasagna for the bottom layer which didn’t quite fit but I thought would for the top layer. That ran out so I opened a new box of Morrison’s lasagna only to find it had different dimensions Shock

Faraway20 · 05/06/2020 20:47

SauvignonBlanche I've had the same trauma, I will be asking the first owner of the mythical dish which lasagne they buy.

How do restaurants bring out lovely individual lasagne dishes with perfect pasta proportions inside? It's witchcraft, especially when they are oval

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 05/06/2020 20:49

I don't think you ever can. Sad No lasagna dish has completely straight sides, so if it's perfect at the bottom, the sheets will be too small for higher layers.

SauvignonBlanche · 05/06/2020 20:51

I was quite traumatised Shock

Faraway20 · 05/06/2020 20:56

Polka if the bottom layer was perfect, I would reluctantly accept a small gap at the top. I don't think I'm asking too much here..

Cook the lasagne sheets for a few minutes in water first makes it much easier to do the mosaic.

ExpletiveDelighted · 05/06/2020 20:59

We've got a square pyrex one which holds two sheets neatly next to one another. So two in one direction as the bottom layer then sauces, two the other way for the next layer, we usually do about 6 pasta layers, it holds together pretty well.

frenchfancy81 · 05/06/2020 21:00

Nah, snapping and placing the pieces is all part of the fun!

passthemustard · 05/06/2020 21:00

I have one! No idea where it was from .... it was one of those inherited kitchen items. .... from ..... I have no idea where.... .. I never use it because there is 6 of us so I only use the massive big one I have (and the mosaic method!)

LivingThatLockdownLife · 05/06/2020 21:04

Mine is also weirdly the wrong size. Bought it last year, made lasagne from scratch once.

Boy oh boy. Think I spent about 6h all told. It tasted ..adequate. Not worth 6h and a million pans.

How do restaurants do it?!

LivingThatLockdownLife · 05/06/2020 21:05

Off a tangent but I've seen lasagne recommended as an easy mid week dinner - what have I missed? How does one do an easy mid week lasagne?!

troppibambini · 05/06/2020 21:08

@LivingThatLockdownLife I don't know I'm guessing jars?
My family is Italian and the lasagne takes a pretty much a full day to make, although it's very different to any lasagne I've seen here.

Faraway20 · 05/06/2020 21:12

Mustard can you measure it please?

OP posts:
Faraway20 · 05/06/2020 21:13

Nope I do my mince and sauce in the slow cooker first so it's a full day of a job. I'd be highly suspicious of a mid week lasagne

likestodraw · 05/06/2020 21:14

I do lasagne as day two of a big pot of bolognaise, so that way it's quite quick. Just make white sauce and assemble.
Might be a bit much for some to have lasagne the day after spag bol though.

mynameiscalypso · 05/06/2020 21:16

I make lots of random lasagnes - there's one in the Good Food website which uses leftover chicken and pesto and butternut squash and is delicious.

Thisbastardcomputer · 05/06/2020 21:42

Yes, it was free, an offer from Dolmio, it's brilliant

CherryPavlova · 05/06/2020 21:53

One slice of lasagna sized wouldn’t make a very generous lasagne. Make a big one and cut into squares.

Faraway20 · 05/06/2020 22:31

An individual dish fitting exactly 1 sheet would be the dream, so I could make single lasagna's and freeze them and be able to reheat in the oven.. but I know I'm asking for a miracle there.
