..that fits exactly one sheet of standard dried lasagne? With no pasta surgery required? If so can you tell me where you bought this mythical dish?

Lasagne dishes that are exact multiples of lasagne sheets are a rare beast, whether it's 1, 2, 3 or any other multiple.

It's one of life's great mysteries. The solution is so simple and obvious, yet almost no-one has managed it up to now.

We can send people into space but we can't match the size of cooking vessels to the one food product it was designed to accommodate.

ExpletiveDelighted · 05/06/2020 22:51

Foil takeaway dishes are what you need to freeze one sheet sized portions.

Pineapplemonkey · 05/06/2020 22:59

If someone could be the guinea pig please and buy one of these, it ‘might’ be the answer!

What the bloody bloody hell is that monstrosity?

PickAChew · 05/06/2020 23:09

No and I've concluded that Lasagna when only half the household ever eats it and then only rarely is best bought from M&S.

Poppinjay · 05/06/2020 23:11

I'd accept lasagne sheets that snap in straight lines. I don't suppose anyone has found any?

okiedokieme · 05/06/2020 23:15

I have one that uses 1 sheet plus 1/5 of a fresh sheet so I make a 5 later lasagna.

Yankathebear · 05/06/2020 23:18

I have a beautiful le creuset dish that looks like it’s especially made for lasagne. It’s not Sad

I have an 'old el paso' dish that came free with some burrito kits. It's the best dish I've found for lasagne. Almost perfect!

PorpentiaScamander · 05/06/2020 23:24

Although it is quite big, I think I use 4 (maybe 5) sheets per layer so end up not having enough sauce for many layers.

TerfTerfTerf · 05/06/2020 23:36

I have a Square Pyrex dish that holds 4 sheets then you break a 5th sheet into squares to put in the middle. It's really not that hard - you're all dramatically overthinking it!!! Once I've made the bolognese it takes about half an hour to do white sauce and assemble the lasagnes.

Make huge batch of Bolognese. The next day make huge pan of white sauce and assemble 2 or 3 lasagnes (it's much easier to manipulate bolognese when it's cold and a bit solid) Eat spag bol that night with whatever's left. Freeze lasagnes. Defrost for 24hours, cook and eat. Simples Smile

ARoseInHarlem · 05/06/2020 23:56

Nooooooo!!! The best bit of a lasagna is crispy lasagna sheets that poke out from poor mosaic-ing. We fight over these pieces in this house.

FairyDogMother11 · 06/06/2020 03:49

I got individual ones from Poundland when we bought our house but that was about 4 years ago, I'm not sure they still sell them. They're not deep enough (in my opinion, really they're perfectly adequate Grin) but they definitely are the right size for one lasagne sheet!

PineconeOfDoom · 06/06/2020 05:05

This is the actual answer that’s needed. If the bloody stuff would snap sensibly it would fit any size dish.

When Covid is over, perhaps the world’s scientists could turn their attention to this pressing problem. (Joke before I get flamed.)

Thepigeonsarecoming · 06/06/2020 05:09

I do have to snap off small corner pieces for the bottom layer, other than that mine is a perfect fit. I feel owning this is one of my greatest accomplishments in life 😂

Jeremyironsnothing · 06/06/2020 06:07

I didn't realise I had such a an important life problem. I do now.

Pinkywoo · 06/06/2020 06:39

How do restaurants bring out lovely individual lasagne dishes with perfect pasta proportions inside? It's witchcraft, especially when they are oval

They make it in a massive tray then portion it up into the oval dishes (used to work in catering!).
DH is Italian and his lasagna tray is big enough to go sledging in, still have to break some of the sheets though.

userxx · 06/06/2020 06:42

God I'm craving lasagna now and it's not even 7am 🙈

Coffeecak3 · 06/06/2020 06:46

@troppibambini agreed. I always pop dried lasagne sheets into boiling water for a few minutes. Much nicer, although they can stick together if you're not careful.
Definitely prefer fresh lasagne sheets though.
Anyone tried soaking their minced beef in milk before using? I read about this recently and apparently it's a game changer.

ChippyDucks150 · 06/06/2020 06:51

I have one that's perfect *preens
It's from Ikea, and was cheap, less than a tenner.

Bluemoooon · 06/06/2020 06:54

My 1 piece of tesco lasagne measures 8x15.5cm
So, to use that you need a dish 24x31, 32x46.5, 40x31 depending on how you laid them.

totallyyesno · 06/06/2020 06:55

It doesn't need to fit perfectly though, especially if you don't over fill the layers and have at least 4 or 5.

FriendlyDog · 06/06/2020 06:55

What's the measurement of 1 sheet of pasta? Then google a rectangular oven safe dish with ?"×?".

Oblomov20 · 06/06/2020 06:58

Ha ha. Grin
Is it even a thing? Why in the world hasn't it been invented? Get on it, OP!!

I just use a rectangle Pyrex dish. But still snap it, (only ever used dried sheets) to get as much possible lasagne in as possible.

Doesn't everyone snap? Does anyone NOT? Hmm
