Just need an unbiased opinion.

Based on clothes only, is this baby a boy or a girl?
OP posts:

My first thought was girl.
OP I had the same with my little girl and it still sometimes happens when she wears a blue coat or a dinosaur jumper 🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

hotstepper4 · 05/06/2020 18:55

It's a top aimed at a baby girl.

It has ruffled edges and a pink colour in the stripes.

However I'm willing to bet that this is a picture of your son, wearing a top from the girls section, and you're annoyed that someone has mocked or questioned your choice to put him in it.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 05/06/2020 18:55

Girl

WanderingMilly · 05/06/2020 18:56

Could be either but my first thought was a boy, mostly because of the bold colours in the top and the dark trousers.

Slave2love · 05/06/2020 18:56

Girl

Happywith2 · 05/06/2020 18:57

Girl.
My daughter was always called a boy even if she wore a pink dress

BertieBotts · 05/06/2020 18:59

Girl, because there are frills on the edges of the top and that's usually a marker of girls' clothing, but I'd also put a boy in it if I already had it e.g. hand me down.

People in general are rubbish at identifying the sex of babies, it's nothing to do with what you dress them in IME! People called DS2 a girl until his hair grew sufficiently that we cut it into an obviously "boy" style.

tillytoodles1 · 05/06/2020 19:00

I think boy.

BertieBotts · 05/06/2020 19:02

And if you don't cut their hair and don't put clips or bows in it then there are no gendered markers there either. (If I had a girl I definitely would not do bows because I don't like them, might feel more comfortable doing clips, though).

But yeah in general people use hair to judge rather than clothing IME and so if they're too young or you are growing their hair out they will guess and get it wrong about 30-60% of the time.

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 05/06/2020 19:03

I'd go girl because of the ruffled bit. However ds is blond, even dressed entirely in blue people assumed he was a girl. Dd is dark haired, even in pink people assumed she was a boy under his big sister's hand me down blanket.

SomeonesRealName · 05/06/2020 19:03

I would say girl but a boy could wear that outfit and I'd have happily dressed DS like that.

MarshaBradyo · 05/06/2020 19:04

Dd wore navy as well as pink / floral and it wasn’t until her short blonde hair grew and needed a clip that she wouldn’t get a mix of guesses.

LavenderRoseSugarBall · 05/06/2020 19:05

That's fairly 'gender neutral'. I think it's a girl wearing a new top and trousers that are passed on from her big brother or cousin. Smile

PlatoAteMySnozcumber · 05/06/2020 19:07

I would say girl but I definitely dressed DS in stuff like that... although they did come from DD. It’s what I would class as a ‘borderline’ outfit so fine for either. Of course you can put a boy in a dress, but I wouldn’t.

MaidenMotherCrone · 05/06/2020 19:08

Girl

DHW1 · 05/06/2020 19:14

I would have said girl but I’m with you OP I’m often asked what my LO is because she wears leggings more than dresses - which I choose as shes all over the place and dresses restrict her getting about. She also has very little hair still and is at the rough and tumble age which I think some think aren’t lady like! Hmm

mon15 · 05/06/2020 19:15

Girl based purely on the ruffled edges of the top.

Bourbonbiccy · 05/06/2020 19:17

My son is a very petite nearly 3 year old and has white/blonde hair that is neck /nearly shoulder length.

Irrespective of his clothing everyone always "how beautiful she is"

It absolutely doesn't bother me that they get him mixed up.

CEW19 · 05/06/2020 19:18

does it matter?

Bourbonbiccy · 05/06/2020 19:19

Sorry, I meant to add, I think some times it what the child looks like, not just clothing.

Fivefourthree · 05/06/2020 19:20

I think it's a baby. In non gendered clothes.

angel0071987 · 05/06/2020 19:20

Either. But I put my boy in things like that

Nannewnannew · 05/06/2020 19:30

Boy

Somewhereinthesky · 05/06/2020 19:32

I just think clothes don't matter, when they are young. I have a boy, who has always been mistaken as a girl. Latest one was when he answered the door for delivery recently. The man said " thank you love." And he is 12, in boys clothes. He just laughs. Girls don't normally be mistaken as a boy when they are 12. So don't worry.
