When would you go back to online grocery shopping?

I have always done my food shopping online delivered to my door with Tesco, for about the last fifteen years.
I usually pay for the monthly pass, I stopped using the online shopping as no slots at first and as we are not shielding and there were others more in need than us felt wrong to do it.
I truly hate supermarkets, I feel ill everyone I go, I always have.
When would be appropriate to go back to my deliveries? I feel bad doing it but there are free slots available at my supermarket ......

I can't stand how close people came to me this morning when I went to Asda for things for my father in law.
There were no manned checkouts at all, I had to use a self service till with a full trolley, took ages and due to a recent shoulder injury really made the whole process worse.
So when do you think it's ok to go back to it?

We've continued to get deliveries, I've managed each week with numerous delivery options.

Pemba · 05/06/2020 13:12

I used to get online delivery, but since lockdown i found that it's impossible to get delivery slots. But I've recently discovered that we can usually get a click and collect slot - although you have to book it a few days in advance. So we've started doing that, just keep the place by checking out a load of stuff that meets the minimum order value, you can then edit your order the day before. Often the slot is free of charge too. It's so quick and a lot less stressful than shopping in store.

hippoherostandinghere · 05/06/2020 13:15

I've got a weekly delivery the every week since March. The slots are definitely easier to book now. Tesco have a service for vulnerable to receive priority slots so I don't feel I'm taking away from those who need it.

emmathedilemma · 05/06/2020 13:16

i've been doing click & collect. I didn't have a delivery pass so couldn't get delivery slots but C&C has been fine, i haven't been in a supermarket since the start of lockdown.

homemadecommunistrussia · 05/06/2020 13:16

I already have, like you have used them for donkeys years and pay for a delivery pass.

wkaisb13 · 05/06/2020 13:18

I'm doing click and collect again. Has been fairly easy to get slots and we've used it for years. We're still working full time whilst looking after two small kids. I don't have time to go to the shops and I don't feel guilty for using this service.

Wheresthebiffer2 · 05/06/2020 13:21

I've finally managed to get a delivery slot for 18th June. The first one I've got since Lockdown began. (I've also been a regular user, monthly for over 20yrs) so have found having to go to shops really different.

tiredanddangerous · 05/06/2020 13:21

If the slots are available op just start using them. I’ve had a slot pretty much every week since lockdown began (I think there was only one week where we couldn’t get one).

flamingochill · 05/06/2020 13:23

I have a weekly slot with Tesco for the next 4 weeks. (If I didn't have a delivery pass it would be 3 weeks) It's not as hard to get a slot here anymore and I get emails from other supermarkets who know that I'm not vulnerable to get online delivery with them too

Have you thought about a click and collect a lot of you feel guilty about a delivery?

DomDoesWotHeWants · 05/06/2020 13:23

We've never had deliveries before but there's no going back for us now.

Boomclaps · 05/06/2020 13:24

When Ocado will give me a fucking slot. 🤷‍♀️🤞

allfalldown47 · 05/06/2020 13:25

I always shopped online pre pandemic but have been doing weekly shops in store since.
My car broke down this week and is at the garage so I had a little peek and miraculously there was a slot for this weekend. Oh the joy!!! I still feel slightly guilty for taking it though Confused

kimlo · 05/06/2020 13:32

I never stopped. Getting a slot is easier now, I was talking to my delivery driver about it and he said they have taken on 7 new drivers and opened up 500 new slots a week.

I have always shopped online, I'm in the clinically vunerable group, but even if I wasn't I still would. I've been using local shops delivery services as well like the local butcher. I haven't beem in a supermarket since the begining of the year, and I don't intend to.

SandieCheeks · 05/06/2020 13:35

I'm doing click and collect with Morrisons now but they seem to have lots of delivery slots available now too.

Flyinggeese · 05/06/2020 13:35

Whever you like if you can get a slot. Or can you do click and collect?

I've been using Sainsbury's for click & collect - though slots are quite rare. Got to just keep trying.

DuckALaurent · 05/06/2020 13:35

Never stopped, we’ve had weekly delivery slots throughout.

It was always easy for me to get a slot and we’re not shielding or vulnerable. I’m assuming our supermarket just had plenty of capacity so no problem for us.

Scotinengland76 · 05/06/2020 13:36

I’ve been able to get slots no problem. It’s even easier now

TemoraryUsername · 05/06/2020 13:39

I'm in the vulnerable group who managed to get a sainsburys priority slot. These are so many more slots opening up now, I'd be very happy for you to get back to using them (or for a half way house click and collect).

Chloemol · 05/06/2020 13:50

Just start using the online delivery service again. I never stopped, but am shopping for shielding family members so had no problem in not feeling guilty about it

Rosieredapples · 05/06/2020 13:55

Thanks for your responses, I've just booked a click and collect for Tuesday, will see if I can get a delivery for the week after.
I've always hated food shopping, husband and I are both working so it makes life much easier and less stressful.

Hope you manage to get your delivery slot. It seems very location-dependent. We have had slots available throughout with Ocado, even when there were virtual queues to enter the website, once we got in there were plenty available in our area. My partner and I agreed we would go to the supermarket rather than taking a delivery if availability were limited, but the issue didn’t come up. Obviously I realise this varies hugely depending on whereabouts you are.

covidco · 05/06/2020 14:56

If there are free slots I don't see the issue.

We never stopped our deliveries, but I've not had an issue getting a slot - I haven't been logging on at midnight or anything ridiculous, so I haven't felt like I'm taking them from more vulnerable people.

mencken · 05/06/2020 15:13

never unless I have to self-isolate. Aldi don't do delivery.

Katinski · 05/06/2020 15:49

I'm having to, no choice, BUT I long for the olden days to return, when I'd go to the market, watch a lady buy her 4 goats legs, each chopped into 3,(WHY?) and get the perfect recipe for curry goat from her...
And then on to the Chinese place, another recipe, and so on...
I love our vibrant multi-cultural society,I love food, love all those exotic(to me)vegetables and fruits...
But, for now, I get deliveries from Iceland, Morrison's if I'm lucky -( and I'm spectacularly unlucky), so Iceland home deliveries it is. The driver's lovely, thoSmile

GinnyStrupac · 05/06/2020 16:13

This week is the first week since lockdown began that I have been able to get a delivery slot for a highly vulnerable person. The government list only covers the extremely medical vulnerable and this is the list the supermarkets have been working from. It is essential that those people get the help, of course, but many vulnerable people have been left without help for all these weeks. It is frustrating to see the vans come weekly to the same houses who don't really need them in the knowledge that others who do have been left struggling. They have been left to try to find slots just like people who could get to the supermarket much more easily. Perhaps the increased availability of slots depends on area - here in a rural area they are still hard to come by. I would say, unless there are plenty of slots available, those who can reasonably get to the supermarket should, or at least choose Click and Collect. It is something that the supermarkets still need to address.
