I am sad and need the power of Mumsnet to help me find something I have lost.

I’ve looked everywhere, I’ve even paid the kids to look and they can’t find them either. I’ve lost my headphones. It is silly to be sad but they were a gift and I loved them-they fit my little ears lovely and doNt cause me pain when wearing them. They’re in a black square charging case and I can last visualise them in my bedroom as I had been wearing them to do my housework.
We have not long had workmen in but I’m 95% confident they haven’t taken them.
I have been known to have them fall out of my handbag in my car but I have checked and can’t see them (they normally belong in the zip pocket of my bag).
So I’m calling on the Mumsnet collective to see if anyone can help me find them.

After St Anthony's added you to the list of people looking for lost dummies, keys, dogs, bank cards and packets of biscuits when you've only just put them at the back of the cupboard yesterday - you could order another set online, as most come with a selection of plastic ear bits now. I use the smallest size ones, DP uses the largest.

In the hood of a hoodie?

In the arm of a cardigan, hoodie!?

Bedside table shelf?

Used as a book mark-unintentionally?

In a pillow case?

Behind the tv?

CosmicVagina · 04/06/2020 21:57

In the hood of the pushchair. I found my post car keys there after a fortnight Blush

-Have you changed your bed today? Look in the dirty laundry pile if so, they may have got caught up in the duvet cover or pillow case? I found dd's headphone in the duvet cover the other day. Or if the cover is still on the quilt, it may have worked it's way down to the foot of the bed, and be caught where the duvet is tucked under the mattress.

-in a coat, fleece, dressing-gown or apron pocket

  • in a slipper or shoe that you have put on the stairs to take up

Kitchen cupboards with the teapot? That's where I found something that I turned the house upside down looking for.

Book case, fruit bowl, the "tidy" drawer. Wherever they are you just know that the day after you buy a new pair, they will turn up!

Samtsirch · 04/06/2020 22:07

Still in your handbag ?😂
Or in the bin...
It may have to be one of those unsolved mysteries, sadly.

Samtsirch · 04/06/2020 22:08

Or buried in the garden by a pet?

Sgtmajormummy · 04/06/2020 22:20

A wise wo/man* told me that things get lost when you go out of your routine. You do things in an unexpected way and don’t go back to look for what you put down.

Have you done any unusual DIY or rearranging recently?

Under the washing machine?

If they were in pocket maybe they fell out and went under there?

I lost an earring whilst sleeping in January. Just after Easter I put some washing in the machine and noticed something glinting as I scooped up a stray sock...it was my earring, it had been missing at least 8 weeks!

JoshLymanIsHotterThanSam · 04/06/2020 22:32

@MitziK they’re £215 to replace, so would rather find them if I can.

@Sgtmajormummy we’ve overhauled the kitchen and the hallway in the last few weeks so your post rings true. Problem is how to find them again?

On a window sill?
Fallen behind a radiator?
Fallen into a pair of shoes / boots / slippers?

JoshLymanIsHotterThanSam · 04/06/2020 22:35

They definitely can’t be in the kitchen including the junk drawer as we’ve completely ripped it out and fitted a new one.
Whilst the dog is a shit for chewing stuff she would have left it for me to find...they don’t dig the garden up thankfully.

If you were last doing house work, what about where you keep the cleaning stuff, dusters or even where you store the hoover. Is there a ledge near any of those places?

magicmallow · 04/06/2020 22:42

in your bathroom somewhere, or in your kitchen? hidden away somewhere out of sight?

incognitomum · 04/06/2020 22:43

Hope you find them. They're not cheap!

incognitomum · 04/06/2020 22:43

Under the sink?

magicmallow · 04/06/2020 22:49

Look up high e.g. on chests, high places, and near office or communication equipment e.g router etc?

In an area where your kids play?

Or did a friend or relative come over and could they have picked up by mistake?

sarahC40 · 04/06/2020 22:52

If anyone knows where I put my degree certificate and other assorted v important docs, could you let me know?

msmith501 · 04/06/2020 22:53

Has one of the children "borrowed" them and is now a bit embarrassed to own up and give them back? Maybe try a headphone amnesty and ask them to be returned without having to own up?

sarahC40 · 04/06/2020 22:53

They were together in an envelope if that helps. Hope you find your earphones, op.

Skyeshovercraft · 04/06/2020 22:56

Sofa. I've checked and double checked and had someone else check, then found stuff in that weird back bit where its solid, but the fabric separates.

boatyardblues · 04/06/2020 22:58

I found my iphone headphones earlier in the pocket of a cost I hadn’t worn for several weeks, having hunted high or low for them for a few days. 🤦‍♀️

Fatted · 04/06/2020 22:59

Check the car again. Look in those 'magazine' pockets on the back of the front seats. I once lost my phone in one of them. Was putting my son in his car seat, phone was in my back pocket of my jeans. It somehow managed to get caught without me noticing, flip out and slid into the pocket on the back of the driver's seat. Spent a frantic 20 minutes looking for it, had every man and his dog searching and was in the car the whole time.

Fishfingersandwichplease · 04/06/2020 23:03

Coat pocket maybe? Or a hoodie or something you may have been wearing? Always finding lipbalms in coat of Jean's pockets that l have shoved in there and then just forgotten til l next wear them

BogRollBOGOF · 04/06/2020 23:11

I have a hungry sofa that devours all kinds of things. It's favourite is the remote control. Whe.n the remote control went missing it was the first place I looked. I frisked it so many times. After 3 months of tedious faffing with the basic controls on the TV we gave up and replaced the TV (It was getting older and out of date on snart services). 9 months on, I discovered an obscure crevice in the sofa and nestled discretely amongst a surprising mass of pens, hairbands and lego was the remote control.

I found a missing special necklace a house move later about 2 years after losing it. I went travelling and couldn't remember what obscure "safe" place I left it in... a teddy bear high up on a shelf was wearing it.

I also lost a 4 year old in a small 3 man tent. 3rd time of looking, I realised that DS1's sleeping bag was slightly bulgy, and pulled the end zip and found DS2 snuggled in a tiny ball like a doormouse, snug, cosy and fast asleep. Oh the relief!
