Strong, dark, some hint of redemption or not. Fearless taking no shit women that I can soak up and mentally channel at such or whatever the acronym is! Solid writing/story please. I like Three Billboards, Star is Born, Fargo...

I'm going to add

Arrival.

A quiet female lead, but super smart, an expert in her field intellectually. But also immensely emotionally brave and strong in the decision she makes towards the end of the film.

Massively under-rated imo.

GI Jane with Demi Moore.

Russellbrandshair · 03/06/2020 22:36

Wonder Woman! The film with gal gadot - made me tear up

cushioncovers · 03/06/2020 22:37

High crimes
Double Jeopardy

Both movies stared Ashley Judd who also filed a lawsuit against Harvey Wankstein for sexual harassment.

Mojitomogul · 03/06/2020 22:48

Enough- its Jennifer Lopez as the lead who tries to escape her abusive husband. It's so watchable..I watch it any time I need to feel kick ass. It's not very well known but I just find it so good!
Eye for an Eye- lead with Sally Field as a mother who tracks down her daughter's killer. The first scenes are so awful..but you are absolutely rooting for her throughout the film!

DioneTheDiabolist · 03/06/2020 22:54

Ghost In The Machine for Scarlett Johansson at her kick ass best.
Kick Ass.
Ghostbusters if you want a laugh and some amazing cameos.

Blurpblorp · 03/06/2020 22:57

Mad Max Fury Road... Every single time.

ButteryPuffin · 04/06/2020 00:36

Can't believe I forgot Captain Marvel! My favourite kick ass female hero of recent years. You will cheer her and her pilot best mate on.

I also really liked the Ghostbusters remake.

SingingSands · 04/06/2020 00:39

Private Benjamin? That's an oldie!

Just finished watching season 1 of The Morning Show - brilliant!

clpsmum · 04/06/2020 00:42

Girl with the dragon tattoo

SomeHalfHumanCreatureThing · 04/06/2020 00:43

Was also going to recommend bombshell and vigilante.

SomeHalfHumanCreatureThing · 04/06/2020 00:44

And YES to ghostbusters Grin

SomeHalfHumanCreatureThing · 04/06/2020 00:46

Whip It was very satisfying. Directed by Drew Barrymore.

SomeHalfHumanCreatureThing · 04/06/2020 00:47

maybelou · 04/06/2020 01:07

You've probably seen Easy A with Emma Stone? I thought that was good too.

Soubriquet · 04/06/2020 08:22

@Strawberrypancakes

I spit on your grave doesn’t start well admittedly... but it might be considered?
Yeah...it’s brutal to begin with
Deathraystare · 04/06/2020 13:09

First Wives Club

Saw that again the other night! Fab! I absolutely adore Bette Midler! But all three leads were terrific!

BobbinThreadbare123 · 04/06/2020 13:12

GI Jane
Atomic Blonde

JustSew · 04/06/2020 13:16

Not a film but an Australian Netflix series called Wanted. Two fantastic female lead characters. A slightly preposterous plot but funny, witty, face paced action.
It's my favourite series ever and no-one else seems to have seen it.

Betty98 · 04/06/2020 13:21

Sorry not RTFT so may have been suggested but I’d strongly recommend Big Little Lies and Little Fires Everywhere both on Amazon Prime. TV shows not movies but great for strong females. They make a few questionable changes from the books but great showing nonetheless.

DameFanny · 04/06/2020 14:21

Introducing 16yo to Run Lola Run this afternoon, that fits your bill if you're ok with subtitles - and it's not dialogue-heavy even so

nitgel · 04/06/2020 14:22

Elle, it's french was on BBC not long ago

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 04/06/2020 14:25

Late Night with Emma Thompson.

Also love Dead to Me.
