@Cattermole
Orangeblossom78have you noticed that he also said the next restrictionswillbe eased on June 15th?
Not "depending on the numbers continuing to fall" or "following the science" - justwillbe eased. (Also - that's not 28 days, by any stretch.)
Interestng.

I do feel optimistic about this but its almost like I'm now conditioned against optimism and just think he may be referring to the non essential shops opening...but he said "next" so I suppose I can still be hopeful.
God I just feel like all hope has been sucked out today.
Though I did treat myself to an impulse buy....

I’m considering a paper bag with eye holes to make the point. I’ll probably go as half arsed a floaty scarf as is possible before it becomes lace crochet.

AnotherEmma · 04/06/2020 19:36

TrusttheGeneGenie
Do you have the job offer in writing? (Letter or email)? You don't need a signed contract or to have all the paperwork completed. Evidence of a firm job offer should be enough.
I think once you have that it should be fine to tell your current employer that you're interested in voluntary redundancy. There will be a consultation period and a notice period anyway so you might as well get the ball rolling.

KaronAVyrus · 04/06/2020 19:36

I’m just so sick of all this shit now. The not working, homeschooling, endless queuing, everything closed. So bored of it.

DominaShantotto · 04/06/2020 19:37

Local rag now floating June 15 for hairdressers but masks required. Roots vs this mask bullshit? Tough one

Nihiloxica · 04/06/2020 19:38

It says on BBC news that people with breathing difficulties will be exempt

I have started to get a mild anaphylactic reaction from having further restrictions imposed.

BakewellTarts · 04/06/2020 19:39

@Willow2017 I love those masks.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 04/06/2020 19:40

Same here @Nihiloxica
Bullshit is triggering my asthma....

Nihiloxica · 04/06/2020 19:43

I know there are relationships I have (had?) that will never recover from this.

I have been very quiet about this on public social media, so I doubt they even realise that their loud, incessant dementoring is losing them a friend.

justasking111 · 04/06/2020 19:48

I think it said the elderly would be exempt from wearing a mask whatever criteria elderly covers. I did try one in Tesco weeks ago, I struggled with it asthma so had to remove it after a few minutes it was an industrial dust type one from OH workshop might be ok with a paper one.

AnotherEmma · 04/06/2020 19:51

Can anyone share some good sources of local data, please? I know of these two:

www.covidlive.co.uk/

www.theguardian.com/world/2020/jun/04/coronavirus-uk-map-the-latest-deaths-and-confirmed-cases-near-you

I'm looking for ammunition to make the case at work that we should allow staff and colleagues to return to the office if they want to. At the moment the management and board are in full dementor mode, and they seem to be basing their decision making on the overall national situation, but I want to make the case that we should be looking at the local figures. There's absolutely no need for us to stay closed just because there are still a few cases at the other end of the country.

It's really depressing me tbh. I have resigned myself to the fact that I'll be WFH until I start maternity leave (even though I hate it, and I'll be so sad not to say a proper goodbye to my colleagues). But I don't think the way we are working now is sustainable, and it's just not necessary to keep everyone at home any more. Of course, the people who are shielding should stay at home, and people who are vulnerable if they choose, but there's no need for everyone else to WFH.

Willow2017 · 04/06/2020 19:51

BakewellTarts
If we have to wear them here might just get one! I like the firey one Wink

TheGreatWave · 04/06/2020 19:52

I have short hair (well not at the moment) so I'm not even sure the whole mask thing would work.

Long enough to properly scrape it back now though, so who cares, and I'm embracing the grey anyway.

BakewellTarts · 04/06/2020 19:55

To be of value you need to wash masks between each wear so you will need several...

@Nihiloxica yes me too.

BarkandCheese · 04/06/2020 19:57

The ones I make are simple soft cotton and they’re quite loose around the face, I also use shirring elastic to hook around the ears because it doesn’t dig in. They’re very much designed for comfort and for “show” rather than anything else. If you absolutely have to wear one I’d recommend making your own so you can make it as comfortable as possible.

I suppose, in These Unprecedented Times, that it will now be acceptable for bikers to wear their helmets in wherever they weren't allowed to wear them before (banks? post offices? shops?) They are, after all, quite efficient masks...

BakewellTarts · 04/06/2020 19:59

Really hilariously a local FB page has a post about two kids playing in a local playground. I think they were expecting shock and dementoring. So far everyone has said a variation of "Great" and "Good to see kids being kids". Maybe the tide is turning.

Willow2017 · 04/06/2020 20:00

Saw a woman in the shop today with a mask, fine except she had pulled it down and was leaning over to her friend she had just met and talking to her!! Felt like saying thats not a fecking magic mask, if its not over your gob and nose then why are you wearing it?

LivinLaVidaLoki · 04/06/2020 20:01

There is a link in this news site.

Nihiloxica · 04/06/2020 20:01

Grin Shodan

Just thought that this mask wearing will be no good for facial recognition software.

Maybe my anaphylaxis is receding...

AnotherEmma · 04/06/2020 20:02

@LivinLaVidaLoki thanks

LivinLaVidaLoki · 04/06/2020 20:05

No problem. Considering the dementoring that goes on here to then find we had a staggering 22 cases at the peak was just astounding....

AgentCooper · 04/06/2020 20:06

@AnotherEmma I hope you can get back before mat leave Flowers that’s brilliant that you’re compiling resources to make a good case for it.

My lovely line manager is also pregnant and due to go off in September. I’ll be really sad if I don’t get to see her properly before she goes, she has been so kind to me while I’ve been struggling during this period, despite having a rough time herself.

AnotherEmma · 04/06/2020 20:08

I really doubt I'll be able to Sad Last day is 13th August.
It's as much for my colleagues' sake as my own. Especially our volunteers who we couldn't function without, and who obviously don't have the same financial imperative as the staff - the social experience of being in the office is a big part of why many do it, I think. It's why I enjoy my job!

AnotherEmma · 04/06/2020 20:08

(Thank you though. And I hope you can see your manager before she goes!)
