Help! Classical piano tune stuck in head

If anyone has a wide knowledge of classical piano music please help!
During lockdown I've been playing quite a bit again. I have my Dad's old piano books, there's a lot of Mozart and Beethoven sonatas.
Now a tune has got stuck in my head and I can't find it in the books. I'm sure my dad used to play it (he died when I was a child sadly so I can't ask him).
If you think you may be able to help send me a PM and I'll try and get a clip of me singing it to you.
It's driving me crazy day and night!

I might be able to help.

Have you tried humming it into the Shazam app?!

Shazam can't get it! Hard to sing/hum as I can hear both parts in my head.
I know I sound mad!

Not those @applepineapple but thanks. If it's the second or third movement of something I may never know!

Try me? Might be able to guess it!

Arcadia · 02/06/2020 15:39

How do I send a clip?!

OP posts:

I could try and write it out and post a picture?

ScarfLadysBag · 02/06/2020 15:42

Record it to soundcloud and post a link?

WildRosie · 02/06/2020 15:45

Gymnopedies by Erik Satie has three movements. Perhaps it's one of those.

Arcadia · 02/06/2020 15:55

Please say this works! It's actually two hands with quavers in the left hand but I've simplified it. Don't know if the key is right!

Quite a slow piece

Sorry Arcadia. I've only limited piano skill and I don't recognise it. It's not one of the Gymnopedies tunes though. Good luck with your search.

ScarfLadysBag · 02/06/2020 16:03

I just played it and it is familiar to me but I can't place it. Sorry! Hopefully someone else will know.

Arcadia · 02/06/2020 16:03

@WildRosie it isn't but good call as similar sort of feel to it, quite emotional

Maybe an Einaudi tune?

BoxOfShapes · 02/06/2020 16:06

Beethoven Pathetique sonata!

Bathbedandbeyond · 02/06/2020 16:07

I know it!! I need to think.. I’ll be back!

Arcadia · 02/06/2020 16:08

@BoxOfShapes is there a number? I have three big Beethoven books. I did think it was one of them! Which movement?

OP posts:
belavi · 02/06/2020 16:09

2nd mvt of Beethoven’s ‘pathetique’!

belavi · 02/06/2020 16:10

(Aka Sonata Op. 13 no.8 in Cmin)

Monkeybunkey · 02/06/2020 16:11

The top line is similar to Nimrod from Elgar's Enigma Variations, so it could be a piano reduction of that?

ScarfLadysBag · 02/06/2020 16:11

Ooh

BoxOfShapes · 02/06/2020 16:12

@Arcadia, it's Sonata No. 8 in C minor, Op. 13., 2nd movement (Adagio cantabile). It's one of my favourites!

If by any chance it's not in any of your books then are you familiar with imslp? It's database of out-of-copyright music PDFs and it will certainly be on there.
