Shit! Is there anything I can do? Screwed up Tesco delivery.

My fault...I accidentally sent my (£200) Tesco delivery to our old address.

It’s registering as “delivered”. My son has run around there to see if they’ve taken it all in.

If they have and choose to keep it, what if anything can I do? Tesco customer service is closed at this time of night.

Can’t believe this has happened. We have very little money for more food 😥 I am such a fucking idiot.

They might do a monthly shop when they get paid.

Yes. And it makes sense if you can do it. A shop that size you probably won't have a delivery charge and you can take advantage of BOGOF offers and buy larger sizes. If you're on a tight budget you can do it, so long as you're paid monthly.

ShredMeJillianIWantToBeNatalie · 02/06/2020 11:14

We used to do a Costco shop once a month (we aren’t members anymore) - I’d imagine £200 on nappies, formula, toilet roll, washing powder etc doesn’t go very far.

mrsBtheparker · 02/06/2020 11:15

Well it is theft if they know the property is not for them, and refuse to give it back

Not sure about this. When we were buying this house I accidentally gave the wrong account number over the phone, 5 instead of 8, and £10,000 didn't land in our account! Nationwide were very good, and kind to a panic stricken customer, but she did say that if it was in someone else's account it could be tricky to get it back if they chose not to do so, the law of taking a pecuniary advantage doesn't exist any more. Luckily it has gone into a dormant account and we got it back.

oxrocker · 02/06/2020 11:16

Hope we get an update.

Perisoire · 02/06/2020 11:23

@curtainsforme

What is actually wrong with you that you need to try and pick at the situation so badly?

What is actually wrong with you that you feel the need to police the thread so badly? How is asking one question 'picking at the situation so badly'?

Get a grip.

Hoppyhops · 02/06/2020 11:24

@8misskitty8 @AngusThermopyle and other PP. Thanks for this. I have been telling my DH for ages that it’s annoying (and probably dodgy) to still keep having all his mail but he vaguely knows the ex owner and sees it as ‘only doing a favour’. He’s a bit too nice/trusting for his own good sometimes. I’ll start putting ‘Return to sender’ on them and shove them back in the post.

Footywife · 02/06/2020 11:25

Who else things the (very embarrassed) OP won't give us an update? 😂

tiredanddangerous · 02/06/2020 11:26

People who need to watch their pennies don’t spend £200 on an 80 item shop.

curtainsforme · 02/06/2020 11:27

I'm not policing the thread. It's a commonly used phrase when someone doesn't like what is posted on Mumsnet though, so you get w bingo pin tor something.

How is asking one question 'picking at the situation so badly'?

Perhaps it was a combination of the question, the tone and the added emoji that made me reply to you.

Rathersexyfortysomethingblonde · 02/06/2020 11:28

Update?

What phrase? What are you actually on about? Confused

Amazing that you can read all that in one sentence

  • Phone the police
  • Contact CAB
  • Get proof of delivery to take them to small claims court
  • Shame them on social media
  • Post passive aggressive notes through their door
  • Its fraud and theft! Have them hung, drawn and quartered!

Jesus wept, who are these posters seriously suggesting these things? Get a a grip!

Its OPs mistake that caused this. A simple phone call to Tesco will let her know where she stands. Her behaviour in the meantime merits an apology to the people living at the old address.

As it stands, there are any number of explanations as to what happened, and the residents being theiving, fraudulent, scum of the earth in my opinion, is the least likely.

  • they werent in/didnt answer the door - order returned to depot
  • a family member accepted the order thinking another family member must have ordered it
  • they accepted it thinking it was a gift from an extended family member/friend who knew they were going through a hard time or are shielding
  • they have learning difficulties or the likes of dementia, and were confused
  • they were half asleep at being woken up late at night and assumed they had made some sort of mistake with their groceries
  • they answered the door, knew it wasnt theirs and refused the order - Tesco returned it.
  • the delivery driver was set upon by jeepers creepers, who stole his eyes and left his van overturned in a ditch for wildlife galore to devour OPs groceries.

If they made a mistake, they maybe didnt realise until this morning. If it was returned to the depot, tesco maybe haven't been able to process it yet and acknowledge the return and advise of a refund.

@Perisoire

'Policing the thread' is the commonly used phrase. Add to it the defensive insults and you really have won the game.

Dunking · 02/06/2020 11:44

I spend £180 a week at Tesco a week. Its easily done and there is only two of us !

Vanhi · 02/06/2020 12:01

They might well do. We're just past the end of the month, which is when most people with a monthly salary are paid. It's a good time to make sure you buy in bulk, which is cheaper. As a pp pointed out, it's only £2.50 per item. If you go for large packets and multibuys you could get a lot of shopping for that money. I'd stock up on large packs of non-perishables - 4kg of rice for £4, that kind of thing.

It's much easier to budget if you can bulk buy and that may well be what the OP was trying to do.

Perisoire · 02/06/2020 12:11

What would you call it in when you stick your oar in on a perfectly valid question? And it's perfectly OK for you to be belligerent and say ''What is actually wrong with you?' and yet if I respond, I am being defensive? Ok Hmm

Megatron · 02/06/2020 12:12

@curtainsforme I think you may be reading a little too much into @Perisoire 's comment.

'It's a commonly used phrase when someone doesn't like what is posted on Mumsnet though, so you get w bingo pin tor something.'

I don't understand what this means either I'm afraid.

Perisoire · 02/06/2020 12:14

Thanks @Megatron

I have never spent £200 on a single shop, so I think it was a valid question to ask.

Katinski · 02/06/2020 12:19

Anyone else just really really hope the OP received her shopping, one way or another, at no extra cost to her?
Fingers still tightly crossed for you OP SmileFlowers

IAmReportingYouForBBQing · 02/06/2020 12:21

I really want to know what happened. I've done this before but luckily my sisters address and not mine

Prettybubblesintheair · 02/06/2020 12:27

Hope you managed to get it sorted op. This is the kind of thing I’d do so I really feel for you Flowers

ekidmxcl · 02/06/2020 12:32

My husband would take in random shopping because he would think I probably ordered it.

Megatron · 02/06/2020 12:49

@ekidmxcl. So would mine, he wouldn't check the receipt either.
