Bra issues

How come it is so damn uncomfortable? I hate the thing. I have spent most of lockdown without one.
For reference, post meno pause, big boobs, M and S bra, no wire. It is on an extender thing, hanging by one clip and still hateful.

Go on boob or bust and get measured properly

randomer · 01/06/2020 14:27

For lockdown and home use in general get some soft bras. Not much uplift but comfortable and at least half dressed. I'll shop in them but wouldn't go out in the evening.

The only thing is the reasonably priced ones are all nylon so I also have a collect of strips of flannelette (old sheeting) to tuck along the front

These

amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B077GHRTM5/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 bra]]

I'm post menopause and 38G and get an XL

Also higher under the arm so no bulge there

Paranoidmarvin · 01/06/2020 14:55

I gave up on bras years ago. They hurt and are uncomfortable. I now wear bralettes. And I feel so much better. Everyone says bras stop boobs from sagging. But these babies are not standing up on their own again anytime soon.

randomer · 01/06/2020 16:17

@Khione, sorry I can't open your link.

If I let mine loose in public, I look horribly aged.

You're almost certainly wearing the wrong size bra. Usual error is too large on the chest band and too small in the cup

randomer · 01/06/2020 17:45

The band is killing me. Now in my youth I was a 32, now wearing a 36 with extra bit which is killing me. I have put on weight, there's no denying that but how can it be 5 ,6 inches in rib cage?

If it is riding up at the back, it might be digging in under your breasts at the front ? If that is the case it is too big a band.
Possibly it is simply that the bra brand is digging in more as it isn’t a wired bra. Some bras do this on me.
What dress size and cup size are you ?

Bagelsandbrie · 01/06/2020 17:49

I hate bras. Been measured properly, done boob or bust, bravissimo etc. They’re all shit and nothing is as comfortable for me as freeboobing. The stretchy crop tops from amazon etc are just about bearable but can’t stand proper bras. I’m a large size too - 32H. Just hate them all.

Chesterfuckingdrorrs · 01/06/2020 17:50

What clothes size do you wear on your top half?
Getting the right size and shape bra to fit can be a bit tricky but once you do, you should Almost be able to forget you have one one

attackedbycritters · 01/06/2020 17:52

Molke

PrimeroseHillAnnie · 01/06/2020 17:58

freeboobing ..... love it. .Me too, I hate wearing a bra, comes off the minute I walk through the door. Luckily I'm an average C cup so M&S are OK.

covidco · 01/06/2020 17:58

I second attackedbycritters suggestion. You sound like a perfect candidate for a Molke bra.

Bagelsandbrie · 01/06/2020 18:12

There’s a good Molke Facebook page for buying and selling secondhand ones if you fancy trying them.

I’ve given them a good go too. They’re okay once they’re on but they’re a right faff to pull on, either over your head or from the toes up!

Dollywilde · 01/06/2020 18:13

Seconding boob or bust for measurements! Game changer.

WordInYourShellLike · 01/06/2020 18:36

A few months ago I went and got properly fitted in a John Lewis and I ended up buying two pairs of THESE and they are the comfiest bras I've ever found. Obviously an in-store fitting isn't an option yet but I don't think that especially matters with this comfort style. I hate a too tight strap under my boobs - basically I want something that I will actually forget I'm wearing! Comes with removable pads. Is also pretty cheap as bras go.

ofwarren · 01/06/2020 18:46

I tried boob or bust the other week before I bought a new bra. I was always uncomfortable, sweating, itchy and irritated. I was wearing a 38 E and boob or bust say I'm actually a 36 G!
I've bought the right size and it's so much better. It doesn't hurt and fits perfectly.

randomer · 01/06/2020 19:00

mmm, plenty to think about. dress size 16, chesticles 36 F?

I really had a very nasty shock when I saw myself in a full length mirror, stones overweight , which would explain being out of breathe easily.

fallfallfall · 01/06/2020 19:03

get yourself a reduction. got mine at 61 and don't regret it for a second.
the concept there is a comfortable bra out there is bull shit.
all the money spent of ill fitting bra's bathing suits and tops add up to the cost of surgery. i would be money ahead if i did this 30 years ago.

randomer · 01/06/2020 19:43

Really? i don't fancy the pain and I haven't got the readies.

OP posts:
BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 01/06/2020 19:45

Have you got a tape measure? You need to do the Boob or Bust method and that will increase your comfort.

That's very similar to what I got 4 of from Amazon for £15.

My daughter also wears them in the house and is a J cup. They do 'contain' very well - they just don't give any much uplift.

I can't make the link work but search Amazon for
"Boolavard New Seamless Sports Style Bra Crop Top Vest Comfort Stretch Bras Shapewear, 3 Colour Set + Free White Bra"

fallfallfall · 01/06/2020 20:56

pain free, the chest area felt "hot" like a sunburn but i don't consider that type of discomfort "pain".
