Morning all. No new cases in Northumberland for 24 hours which is good news. Also the Covid19 app is saying that we are down to 0.4 percent of the population now (This has gone up and down like a yo-yo). I hope everyone has the app and is reporting their lack of symptoms. I am so sorry for all of you having unnecessary difficulty in getting your children back to school. Why are schools taking more notice of the unions than the medical people?

Institutkarite · 30/05/2020 10:52

Good morning to all and thanks for the new thread.
I had a reply from my Assembly Member, full on dementor. She totally denied any accusations of trying to be different from England. Told me that the Welsh Assembly are following advise from SAGE, then said that the pandemic has asked a lot of the people of Wales.
She is the Education Secretary.
I want to reply and tell her that it's advice and pandemics don't ask for anything. But that would be a bit rude.
She had no answer to my query about the mental health of Welsh citizens.

ilovecardigans · 30/05/2020 10:53

This is also quite strange- sitting in a cafe with cardboard people

Good grief. What on earth is the point of that??

Also, the picture in the lift reminds me of The Blair Witch Project...

That's great news, @NUFC69. Where can I go to get this info for future reference?

heroku · 30/05/2020 10:57

Apparently the NEU have told them that any teacher whose partner is either BAME or a man over 55 should consider self-isolating in their home.

Agghh this BAME shit makes me absolutely rage. What does someone of East Asian heritage have in common with someone of African heritage? Fuck all! The world is not separated into "white people" and "non-white people". That distinction only exists because of racism. My partner is mixed race which means what exactly? Is he BAME and vulnerable or is he only half as vulnerable because he has some covid-defending white genes? Fuck off.

And breathe.

BarkandCheese · 30/05/2020 10:59

A garden party?

Why Madame Allinadaystwerk , you are most certainly a danger buffoon.

BakewellTarts · 30/05/2020 11:03

Hi all.

Struggling to keep up but so pleased that there are many sane people on this site.

I have been rather busy in real life supporting vulnerable members of my family and bending lockdown rules to do so. Can't really say more as its outing but so pleased I did. They and us are so much happier as a result. But obviously left a trail of carnage in my wake as I did so.

I can't watch the news at the moment its so hysterical. I think the media have been absolutely terrible. The BBC worst of all. Hardly balanced in any way.

Sun is shining today so enjoying my garden. I might actually be supergood and not go out today at all.

DominaShantotto · 30/05/2020 11:07

Morning all. I’m still so fucking angry over our school back-pedal even though my kids aren’t directly affected that I didn’t sleep well. Worried and feeling guilty (I do guilt well - years of training) about that people will think my kids shouldn’t be back at school on Monday and worried the head will have the hump with me over it because I stood firm and fought for them basically. Plus worried about which door I have to take them in and fear of doing it wrong.

TitianaTitsling · 30/05/2020 11:07

Ah it's the chickens we're on to now as the nasty virus laden disease spreaders? It's all down to the mastermind of Feathers McGraw. Hopeful the children will get a bit of a break of the stares and muttering now.

Morning buffoons. I’m feeling quite positive today. The ‘meeting up with six people’ rule change means I can take DD to play in her cousins’ garden, which is good. When I told her she said ‘yay, I can’t wait to hug them and hold their hands!’ SIL and I agree there’s absolutely no point trying to socially distance two three year olds and a four year old, so they can hug away as far as I’m concerned.

Drivingdownthe101 · 30/05/2020 11:11

DominaShantotto I lay awake worrying about the school situation last night too. Worried that the head/teachers will judge me for sending them in when they know I don’t really need to.

First time posting after lurking on the past few threads. Just wanted to say that BBC article by the telly doctor has to be a joke surely?! It's completely insane! Why can we suddenly all catch it from a flushing toilet Hmm

BirdieFriendReturns · 30/05/2020 11:15

I expected better from the BBC.

In your garden, you could mark two metres out with blankets, chalk or masking tape to create little zones for people - no-one from separate households should be sitting next to one another on a bench.

You could ask your guests to set their alarms for every 45 minutes or every hour in a staggered way, then everyone could wash their hands when their alarm goes off. If you're hosting, say to everyone "we're all going to wash our hands once an hour".
You could also have a sign somewhere in the toilet that says "wash your hands".

Even then, remember it's not a risk-free zone. Probably the toilet paper is going to be contaminated - you are definitely taking a risk by doing this.

BakewellTarts · 30/05/2020 11:18

@trappedsincesundaymorn

Identify a sink nearby??? "Look there's"a sink", it's the thing with the bits known as "taps" sticking up from it" I would just love it if there was a sign saying..."this might look like a sink but it identifies itself a toilet, please respect it's decision and treat it as such".

I should not have taken a swig of tea before reading this...I'm now mopping tea up from my keyboard! Thanks for making me laugh!!!

LolaLollypop · 30/05/2020 11:20

Hello - can I join? First anti-dementor thread for me but I can relate to all the posts - even down to the baby bogey picking!
Also suffering with hayfever here and I suspect DS (3 months) is too. Lots of sneezing and big green bogeys flying out in the morning!
I took DD1 (2 and a half) to a local river yesterday and met up with my cousins who have kids the same age. I had all the intentions of monitoring social distancing but quite honestly, it was impossible. Anyway, just watching DD running around with a massive smile on a face brought a tear to my eye. I haven't seen her playing like that in months. I'm very tempted to arrange a playdate with some friends and their children soon - with as much distance as possible for the kids but allowing them freedom to play together too.

Orangeblossom78 · 30/05/2020 11:20

I read the BBC is very popular during this and it has revived it!

www.opendemocracy.net/en/ourbeeb/coronavirus-has-strengthened-case-bbc/

"If the BBC mantra of inform, educate and entertain has been dulled by repetition, the Covid 19 crisis has shown how bright, impressive and indispensable those resources can be. A YouGov poll for Sunday Times, found the BBC website was second most valued source of information (42 per cent) after ‘television or radio’ (54 per cent). In the week 9-15 March 70m UK devices connected to content on BBC News sites and apps, the highest amount ever. The BBC has become the most-trusted news source on coronavirus, according to research from Havas Media Group, with 64% of those polled selecting it, way ahead of the Sky News (29%) and The Guardian (15%). Yet, the education and entertainment roles of the BBC have also been powerfully activated, from ad-free childrens’ programmes, to therapeutic conversation across local radio, to shows to divert us in febrile times."

Orangeblossom78 · 30/05/2020 11:20
Hmm
Weedsnseeds1 · 30/05/2020 11:21

You might not "need" to send them, Driving but they clearly need to go.

Orangeblossom78 · 30/05/2020 11:22

I have just bought lots of dresses online for £5 each from George at Asda. Need something for the sun. Hoping they arrive soon. Wonder what other bargains are to be had atm

fartingsparkles · 30/05/2020 11:23

Another buffoon signing in!

Orangeblossom78 · 30/05/2020 11:32

This is interesting about India (from BBC just now)- (on increasing numbers there)

"The silver lining so far has been India’s low death rate, and high recovery rate of Covid-19 patients. India has recorded 4,971 deaths so far and over 82,000 recoveries.

Epidemiologists say the combination of a rising number of cases but low death rate possibly points to milder infection in a younger population, and a large number of asymptomatic cases"

Orangeblossom78 · 30/05/2020 11:33

A positive news item! Smile

SomewhereEast · 30/05/2020 11:39

I was interested to find the infection rates yesterday broken down into 'community' infections v infections clearly linked to hospitals & similar settings. The former is c. 1300, despite daily testing now being comfortably over the 100,000 mark, which seemed genuinely encouraging to me? Obviously there will be asymptomatic cases too, but 1300 out of a population of (I think?) 65 million seems pretty good going! And its trended steadily down despite VE Day Congas & all the other things which were going to kill us

ThatLibraryMiss · 30/05/2020 11:43

@TrustTheGeneGenie

I just don't get the school thing. The prevalence in the community is low on the whole isn't it? And you can't spread Corona unless you've got it. And everyone is eligible for a test now.. and the track and trace is up and running.

Do teachers have a higher death rate that I am unaware of? Why do they all think it means sudden death?

In reality they're probably more of a risk to the kids than the kids are to them considering adults are allowed out and kids aren't!

This, and genetic studies have found not one single case of a child transmitting the virus to an adult.
