Unusual fears and phobias?

I was interested to see people's unusual fears or phobias and how crazy they can get, I have a serious phobia of other people's Germs, ie no sharing of utensils of any kind, if someone offers me a bite of their food I gag, can't sit on old furniture of any kind it's creeps me out, I absolutely can't sleep in hotels unless the beds look virtually new ect. A family member has an irrational fear of wooden lollipop sticks, they cry when they are even near them!

Paper straws. They turn my stomach turn and make my fingers clench up.
You may find this weird due to my user name but Dead spiders.
Horizontal tower blocks. They look like vertical flats that have fallen over.

Hahaha love the last one! But I agree kind of with the first one the feel and texture of wet paper makes my skin crawl

The underneath of ships. If I see a photo/tv programme of a ship in dry dock or an upturned boat, I go all pale & clammy & feel sick.
In fact ships/tankers full stop stress me out.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 30/05/2020 00:32

Ships in dry dock.

Aclh13 · 30/05/2020 00:47

I just googled the photos and it isn't what I expected! Is it a drowning thing or the physical appearance?

Balloons! I’ve been phobic about them since I was small.

Lovely1a2b3c · 30/05/2020 00:57

Well my main phobia is Emetophobia (vomit/vomiting etc.) but that's hardly unusual!

I am also phobic of every insect (but not spiders- they're not really insects though so just every insect!)

DC1JackieReid · 30/05/2020 00:57

Crane flies. I’ve had snakes as pets, huge dogs, rodents but a crane fly comes in the window? I will vomit.

DC1JackieReid · 30/05/2020 00:58

@Lovely1a2b3c sorry 😐 cross post

Collections of holes Shock

IntoTheUnknown89 · 30/05/2020 01:01

Ducks. Especially the ones with green heads. If I see one, I started heaving. Why? No idea!

Pieceofpurplesky · 30/05/2020 01:04

Earwigs.
They crawl in your ears and eat your brains. Still irrational about them now.

LadyGAgain · 30/05/2020 01:05

Emetophobia - literally cannot cope with sick.

gluteustothemaximus · 30/05/2020 01:05

I have a weird one. It’s car parks or buildings and being underneath all that weight.

I get seriously panicked. Get very stressed with weight upstairs in house. Would have panic attacks living in a tower block. All that weight above you.

I've tried researching it to ease my fears but they remain. Hate bridges too.

Fruit. I eat no fruit at all because of this.
It sounds so strange but I cannot tolerate banana/orange/kiwi peel, grape stalks, apple pips, cores, stems...
I cannot touch them; makes me heave and feel all funny.
Plus the smell of some fruit (banana especially Envy)

ActuallyItsEugene · 30/05/2020 01:21

Oh and docked ships.

When walking near deep ship canals I grip DDs hand so tight because all I can envision is her going in the water and drowning (I can't swim.)

It's one of my recurring nightmares, seeing her face sinking down in deep water.
Gives me shivers just typing it.

Thepigeonsarecoming · 30/05/2020 01:22

I don’t suffer from this but....

Anatidaephobia. A person suffering from this condition feels that somewhere in the world, a duck or a goose is watching him/her (not attacking or touching, simply watching the individual).

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 30/05/2020 01:33

People in masks or costumes. Not clowns for being clowns per se, but because they are in costume. Bit difficult when the world and his wife go out with a mask on these days!

ScottishStottie · 30/05/2020 01:38

My aunt has a phobia of tea. Is very uncomfortable near someone drinking a cuo of tea, cant touch ny utensils that have been near or made a cup of tea. Will not touch dry tea bags, used ones are even worse.

It spreads to anything by association as well. So no green tea body lotions etc as it mentions tea. She wouldnt like an afternoon tea, even if she didnt have tea, because the name has it in it.

DeeCeeCherry · 30/05/2020 02:30

Bears. I've never even seen a real bear yet if they appear on TV I feel anxious and often turn away. Huge bears (even tho I know they aren't real, they look it) in jokey adverts with someone speaking to them. Even panda bears. When Paddington Bear film came out & trailers were shown on TV it gave me the creeps - cute looking bear with horrid growl.

I think maybe it's because they're depicted as being cuddly (so many bear toys) but really they're huge, menacing and would kill you. This isn't a long term phobia it developed in the last few years. I've no idea why and would love to know if there's any theory out there regarding sudden development phobias for no discernible reason

Rtmhwales · 30/05/2020 02:37

I'm phobic of ketchup/red sauce. I can't even pick up a plate with it on it. No idea why.

pandar · 30/05/2020 02:41

Touching neck

osnapitzchloe · 30/05/2020 03:34

I have a generic fear of spiders, lol. But one of my most strangest fears are trypophobia (think that's how you spell it) which is a fear of images or objects where holes are really close together, that really sets off my anxiety.

Thepigeonsarecoming · 30/05/2020 03:46
