minnesota.cbslocal.com/2020/05/29/former-mpd-officer-derek-chauvin-has-been-taken-into-custody-in-george-floyds-death/

Finally the man who murdered George has been arrested and charged. Looking like the other former officers will be too.

Feels like it's been a long time to wait but at last something is happening

Good.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 29/05/2020 19:43

Lets just hope it goes the way it should. Start at least..

HavelockVetinari · 29/05/2020 19:43

Excellent.

The wait was due to the American judicial system and needing to have autopsy evidence of cause of death in order to charge him with murder or manslaughter. They couldn't have added these charges on if they'd only charged him with assault or similar.

lemmathelemmin · 29/05/2020 19:44

Just need a conviction

BillywigSting · 29/05/2020 19:56

Let's just hope he ends up in the clink and not with a slap on the wrist.

If he walks free the riots of the last couple of days will look like a pleasant tea party.

A black cop was given 12 years for killing a white woman. I have not yet heard of a white cop being convicted of killing a black person, only evidence twisted and twisted to prove they were in the right. It is time to set precedent. Do the right thing and CONVICT!

creativecringe · 29/05/2020 20:01

They worked in the same place and they knew each other. That is really scary..

BillywigSting · 29/05/2020 20:06

Have also just seen the cnn footage of the reporter being arrested too. Made my blood run cold Sad

He been charged with 3rd Degree murder and manslaughter. Praying for proper justice for this poor man

Swiftsseason · 29/05/2020 21:24

What does 3rd degree mean though?

rosiethehen · 29/05/2020 22:24

I watched the full video and it was really chilling the way he just kept on rocking backwards and forwards until the poor man was dead. He wasn't even able to move a muscle. The police officer was as calm as anything. He knew what he was doing. It was murder.

RickOShay · 29/05/2020 22:29

Thank god for that.

slipperywhensparticus · 29/05/2020 22:32

Only third degree though

squiglet111 · 29/05/2020 22:35

I hope he goes to prison and I hope this will make other police officers in America stop and think before they shoot/kill black Americans. There needs to be something to say that if they shoot/kills anyone in lawfully then they could end up in prison.

CrazyTimesAreOccurring · 29/05/2020 22:38

Why was the reporter arrested too OP?

Ughmaybenot · 29/05/2020 22:47

The whole situation breaks my heart. He fucking knew what he was doing, he knew he was killing George floyd and it didn’t matter to him, that poor mans life didn’t matter. He must have been so scared Sad

GarlicSoup · 29/05/2020 22:52

Hope he gets a life sentence.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 29/05/2020 22:57

I dont doubt for one second that he was only arrested to stop the riots.
I'm sure they'll find a loop hole some where to get him off or give a suspended sentence or the equivalent. I pray I'm wrong but I'm not confident that he'll do any jail tim e.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 29/05/2020 22:59

At this point and due to the justified anger.
They've just got to" be seen to be fair "and to care about black people.

ChangeThePassword · 29/05/2020 23:03

The reporter seems to have been arrested because he was black. No other reason given.

ShowOfHands · 29/05/2020 23:09

I can't work out what he's been charged with. Google and several sites seem to suggest that 3rd degree isn't a thing and means "manslaughter" but he's been charged with 3rd degree AND manslaughter?

Namechangewhy · 29/05/2020 23:10

Finally! I am so angry and upset. I hope this piece of shit and his colleagues who watched and allowed him to do this, rot in hell.

Russellbrandshair · 29/05/2020 23:14

Good. I hope he rots in hell

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 29/05/2020 23:18

@USirName the ex cop who killed a black man thinking he was in her flat..when she had walked into his got 10 years.. but she was a ex so like say not sure about actual. Guess different cases as well but still low sentence.

Hamsterian · 29/05/2020 23:18

I hope he rots in hell but first he needs to be convicted so at least a very small form of justice can be achieved and an example to any other bastards like this.
This was not manslaughter, this was murder.
