Finally the man who murdered George has been arrested and charged. Looking like the other former officers will be too.

Feels like it's been a long time to wait but at last something is happening

Amurica

The country where a 14 year old child gets the death penalty for a crime he didn't commit (of course he was black) and a murdering cop gets charged with third degree murder of an innocent man only after being pressured into it.

They worked in the same place and they knew each other. That is really scary
@creativecringe What? Please would you say more about this? I had no idea.

Ughmaybenot · 29/05/2020 23:24

Apparently they both worked at the same establishment for a year (altho another source alleges that it was much longer)

monkeyonthetable · 29/05/2020 23:27

I've just googled it - that's extraordinary. And a little sinister. News says 'highly unlikely they knew each other' as Floyd worked inside and Chauvin outside the club. But I've worked in clubs before. Everyone gathers together at the end of a shift for a drink and a chat. You know the people you work with - at least by sight, especially if you have both been there a year.

Ughmaybenot · 29/05/2020 23:28

Well I don’t know. I’ve never worked in that sort of venue before, I don’t exactly know how it works... but some coincidence.

creativecringe · 29/05/2020 23:34

The police officer worked as a security guard at a night club for 17yrs. There is also a claime that Mr Floyd worked at the same night club there for at list a year until recently and they have crossed paths. They knew each other, apparently.

The CNN arrests were shocking. If you google along the lines of “George Floyd CNN arrest” then there are a number of videos. The best is about 6 minutes long and shoes the entire thing.

You start with Omar Jimenez chatting along saying that the police have done a good job of clearing the streets, then they point the cameras at some bloke that they arrest and seem to hit with a big stick. Then they go over and start talking to Omar. He explains they are CNN, helpfully tells them that they are live on air (how thick are these police officers?!?!?), shows them his CNN credentials. And then they arrest him, handcuff him and lead him off. You have the two anchors in the studio going “WTF??!?!?” And actually sounding quite scared. (You can hardly blame them - this police force doesn’t have a great record with black men and being on camera doesn’t seem to bother them,) Then you see the producer (in his shorts!) being arrested. The cameraman is then trying to explain it all and then he gets arrested too. And then the camera is being carried along by the police - still rolling! - and left on the ground. Apparently it was put in the van with them and the anchors watched them being taken all the way to the police station.

If it wasn’t so unbelievably awful it would have been almost sit-com like. The police - whilst in the middle of a race based crisis - arrest a well known non white journalist.

Despite the fact that everyone watching saw him explain he was CNN and show them his badge the police then explained that they let them go once they had established that they were journalists.

That was a message being sent: "Next time, we'll turn off the camera, and you'll vanish".
