I mean since we have been allowed to.

Did you enjoy it? Would you go again?

Yes today but I live on an island. Not too busy the usual dog walkers and one or two kids. Surprising really I thought the locals would be there!

Crispsnatcher · 29/05/2020 23:37

Yes but I went at 7 o clock at night when it was still warm and not many others about.

Bonkersblond · 29/05/2020 23:39

Live a 10 min drive and been for a couple of hours nearly every day this week, Will be there about 8.30 tomorrow and head home by lunchtime, most people are social distancing in small family groups or couples, can spot the out of town day trippers, they turn up with gazebos, numerous cool boxes, large extended family group, from babes in arms to grandparents, maybe they all live in the same house🤷‍♀️

SnoozyLou · 29/05/2020 23:42

We went a few weeks ago. We live by the coast, so know where the big long beaches are that won’t get crowded. So me (8 months pregnant), my partner and toddler went for a picnic at the water’s edge.

It is a MASSIVE beach. You could have a hundred people on there, all outside of shouting distance.

So why, oh why, do people see this massive long beach, wander down it, and plonk themselves down a few metres from you? I mean, to the left and the right, there’s a good 30 metres clear, but no,no. They feel the need to come and sit right by you.

People really piss me off.

Dowser · 29/05/2020 23:43

They’ve opened one of the large car parks at the end near the dunes
About blooming time
The poor residents must have got so sick of people dumping their cars outside their houses
Nice to see one of the pubs open as well

Frazzled2207 · 29/05/2020 23:45

I’d love to but it’s 50 miles for us and doesn’t feel right to go yet.
However I live on the edge of the Peak District and we’ve been enjoying the national park lots this past couple of weeks so don’t feel too hard done by.

redeyetonowheregood · 29/05/2020 23:56

Yes, been twice.

I have worked full time throughout lockdown, children in school. The only thing I missed really was the beach and I was surprised just how much I missed it. We go about once a month normally.

So yes, we have been twice and plan to go up again on Sunday...45 mins drive.

Upherefordancing · 30/05/2020 00:13

We live near the beach in a large south coast city. Since the warm weather began just after the last government review three weeks ago it's as if lockdown is over.

The beaches are as packed as a normal July, with large groups of teenagers and young adults congregating (but amazingly still managing to stay 2m from others)!

I've been a few times with our family and bumped into friends etc.

Upherefordancing · 30/05/2020 00:15

I meant the groups are staying 2m from other groups but not from each other!

Time2change2 · 30/05/2020 00:23

Yes- neatest is 50 mins away. Been 3 times. Once on the hottest day, and twice during the bank holiday weekend. Was fine on the whole, plenty of free spaces to sit away from others

Mytimetogo · 30/05/2020 07:29

@FiveGoMadInDorset Which beach?

We live a 15 minute walk but have not been as people flock to it. Last time I went down (Monday eve, 6pm about 2 weeks ago), there were big groups, the prom was packed with groups and runners/cyclists zooming past and disgusting litter everywhere. Humans are horrid.

CherryPavlova · 30/05/2020 07:36

Yes but to private car park with season tickets or pre-booked spaces only. We went late afternoon/early evening for swimming and running the dog. It was heavenly. Not many people at all.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 30/05/2020 07:39

@mytimetogo Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove

We headed to Studland in the evening instead and it was lovely

SallyWD · 30/05/2020 07:55

We went this week. Given the good weather and the fact it's half term I expected it to be packed. It wasn't at all. We had a lovely time. Will go again next week.

00deed1988 · 30/05/2020 09:29

We went to a sandy one that isn't usually that busy and was so packed with massive groups of people drinking and everyone ontop of each other so we went to a nearby stoney beach and that was fine.

We are trying an alternative sandy beach today but if we turn up and it is busy we will a abandon trying sandy ones for this year.

We will continue with stone beaches but don't enjoy it as much so probably won't be as regular. No way we could enjoy the sandy ones if they are as packed as the one we went to 1st. Was just ridiculous. As we were walking away, still dozens, if not hundreds more walking towards it. Just crazy!

redwoodmazza · 30/05/2020 09:39

We live about 15 minutes away from the beach. But hell no! The amount of people there is obscene.

Somanysocks · 30/05/2020 09:43

I live down the road from one of the beaches that was bonkers recently so am staying well away.

Chillipeanuts · 30/05/2020 09:43

No, way too many people. Wouldn’t feel safe.

MustGetOutofBed · 30/05/2020 09:44

Yes, but only for a walk not for the day. One beach is within my 5km limit so it was great to go, wasn't at all busy as it was a very stormy day - had a great walk!

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 30/05/2020 09:45

Been down for a walk a few times, including before ‘we were allowed’

But probably only 3/4 times in the nine weeks of lockdown

Its so close to us that familiarity breeds contempt 😀

Plus we have avoided weekends in this lovely weather

Mytimetogo · 30/05/2020 09:52

@FiveagoMadinDorset
OMG people are just taking the rise when it comes to Lulworth and DD aren't they? The weekend after they announced schools were shutting someone we know went. Was all, 'Look, what a wonderful place to have a picnic, all these people enjoying the sunshine, we're all in this together!" etc etc. Posted pictures on SM. Rammed!!!!!! Absolutely bonkers.

Camomila · 30/05/2020 09:53

Yes, we've been twice last week. We live in Brighton so its a 10 min drive, we go to Rottingdean rather than the town centre.
What we do is have dinner early then go to the beach from 7 till sunset. There's hardly anyone there and the water has had the whole day to warm up so you can dip ypur feet in. DS 4 is very happy chucking rocks in the water and building in the sand.

Runmybathforme · 30/05/2020 10:02

I live by the sea, if we’d had our way, we’d have road blocks to keep visitors away. The people who live here can’t go and enjoy the sea air because it’s just too crowded, people come from miles around. Then, they leave their rubbish on the beach which of course, we’re left to clear up. Because the loos are closed, visitors have been defecating in peoples gardens.
Obviously, this doesn’t apply to more remote areas, it please stay away from popular resorts.

shinynewapple2020 · 30/05/2020 11:07

Not yet, no. It's a couple of hours drive from where I live and I wouldn't fancy the drive to get there to find no car parks open, no toilets etc.

If it doesn't get to look as if we will be able to get away to stay over near the coast any time soon (I'm hoping at least from July) then we will probably give it a go, on a weekday, and travel early.

I love the sea.

TheoriginalLEM · 30/05/2020 11:18

I live by the sea, in a town that becomes busy in the holidays and at weekends so I generally avoid the beach during these times. Have had some amazing walks on the beach during lockdown. Now they are busier than ever so I'm not going. That's OK, i get it, i can go to the beach anytime so I hope people enjoy it - safely.

I am getting itchy feet now. I want a day out, just not necessarily to the beach
