Waiting for a call to collect keys

I checked earlier online about 9 and it said my mortgage was now live (FTB) so I assume the money has been sent over, I'm just waiting around for a phone call, I don't exactly know who from. There is no chain and the sellers have already moved out. Do I just sit patiently or chase this up with my solicitor?

You sit! I am in the same situation today, waiting for that call! Smile good luck

southerngirl28 · 29/05/2020 11:31

@pinkrocker good luck to you to! I've got such a wide range of emotions today 🤣

If the seller has moved out already it seems strange to be sat waiting, are you moving in today?
For me money exchanged early in the day but the vendors hadn't managed to get packed up and they didn't drop the keys off to the estate agents til closing time. I'd already said to them that I didn't need to move in that day though so they could take their time and I collected the keys the following day.
For selling my house I'd moved out so I dropped the keys to the agent the previous day and as soon as they got a call from my solicitor to release the keys as the money had cleared they called my buyer to pick them up.

pinkrocker · 29/05/2020 11:33

Are you surrounded by boxes too?
I have the car packed up and ready with the little stuff, just trying not to drink any more coffee and wind myself up..Smile

Frlrlrubert · 29/05/2020 11:39

With our first house we sat and waited, I eventually called the agent and they we're like 'oh, yeah, keys are here, come get them!' So worth making the call yourself (totally fair I think to call at noon and ask for an update).

southerngirl28 · 29/05/2020 11:40

@raspberryk yes planning on moving in today, we are collecting keys directly from owner so assume we will just meet them at the property.

@pinkrocker I've packed my little car up as much as possible and I'm absolutely melting already! I've got boxes everywhere and there is not much organisation to them either, I already can't wait for a nice cold gin in the new garden later tonight

Your solicitor should be the one to let you know you've completed. We had to wait for our vendors' solicitor to come back from lunch and confirm they had our money before we got our keys. For a while we homeless. Annoyingly when we finally got the keys it turns out the vendors had moved out the day before. And left loads of stuff in the house which we weren't expecting

pinkrocker · 29/05/2020 11:45

@southerngirl28 absolutely! I will have a garden and I've not had one for years, can't wait!!

pinkrocker · 29/05/2020 11:47

@wowfudge I thought they would give the keys to the estate agent? That's what the EA told me. Solicitor is closed due to covid, all paperwork has been done by post and dropping through letterbox!

wowfudge · 29/05/2020 11:52

I never said the solicitor would have the keys. The OP was asking who would let her know they'd completed. Once we knew we'd completed DP went to the EAs a couple of minutes away and collected the keys.

When we moved 10 years ago we sent the money over in the morning. I went round to the new house whilst our removers were loading us up, only to find the old owners of our house having their breakfast, and the job of moving out only half done. They ended up leaving much of their crap behind, and the house was filthy.
southerngirl28 · 29/05/2020 12:09

I've just emailed my solicitor and she says she is still waiting for the sellers solicitor to call back and exchange contracts (we had to exchange/complete on same day due to current situation) so looks like it'll be a while yet especially since everything on their side since the beginning has been slower than a snails pace!

I bought the house I was renting. The solicitor called and said I could collect the keys. I said "thanks, I've already got them" it was a wonderful moment. Though I was at work so dampened a bit. But very scary and exciting. Good luck in your new homes!!

pinkrocker · 29/05/2020 13:10

Anything yet @southerngirl28?
I'm still waiting, the WiFi has gone off now too, so my kids are not only hyped up about moving but also noted!

pinkrocker · 29/05/2020 13:11

southerngirl28 · 29/05/2020 13:34

@pinkrocker absolutely nothing yet, really panicking that it's not going to happen today after reading about this happening online and since we are exchanging and completing but fingers crossed! Hopefully you hear something soon, it's the worst sitting around waiting and not knowing

OP posts:
pinkrocker · 29/05/2020 14:12

Sitting in the park waiting on EA to ring me, think within an hour hopefully, just had to get out the house!

southerngirl28 · 29/05/2020 14:44

@pinkrocker we're just about to go collect the keys now, hopefully you won't be waiting much longer!

@pinkrocker congrats! Me too, I can't wait until I get all my new furniture and start decorating how I want it. Feels so good to finally be a home owner after years of renting
