... I know there must be loads of you... bu I have a specific question:

If they have a stage name and in particular a one-word one, what do they introduce themselves as?

“Hi, I’m Bono”? Or Paul?

What do Lady Gagas friends call her?

Do Stings friends actually call him Sting?

Etc...

Bit fucking rude @hellosunshine5.

ItsSummer · 29/05/2020 21:37

@hellosunshine5

What a fucking ridiculous post.
What a ridiculous answer to a perfectly innocuous post.
NaToth · 29/05/2020 21:39

Good question actually. Our celeb friend is always known by his celeb name. Even his wife calls him by his celeb name. His family and people he used to work with in a day job call him by his given name. It works. He answers to both, sometimes at the same time.

loobylou10 · 29/05/2020 21:40

@hellosunshinefive. Second thread I've just clicked on where you've been unspeakably rude. Nice!

loobylou10 · 29/05/2020 21:41

Sorry - @hellosunshine5

ShowOfHands · 29/05/2020 21:43

I've got a couple of acquaintances who are extremely well known (one Oscar winner) and the one who has a stage name/recording name is known as something entirely different irl.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 29/05/2020 21:44

I wondered this. I do wonder if Reese Witherspoon is called Reese by her friends and family.

DianaT1969 · 29/05/2020 21:46

@hellosunshine5 - why don't you change your name to something that reflects you better? Like @rude5dickhead

Bluntness100 · 29/05/2020 21:49

I think it depends on the person. I’m going to guess lady Gaga is likely called her real name Ie stefani when people who know her speak to her, lady gaga is a bit of a mouthful.

Although I heard meat loaf is always called meat, as if it was his first name, because that’s what his nick name was as a child. The loaf part came later.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 29/05/2020 21:50

Boris Johnson is apparently called Al by his family as that is his actual name

Emma Stone is called Emily by friends as evidenced by Olivia Colman at the Oscars

I have heard Bradley Cooper use Stephanie instead of Gaga in interviews.

MunchMunch · 29/05/2020 21:54

Same with Patsy Palmer I'd imagine to her dm she's Julie (I'm sure that's her name) but what does her nearest and dearest call her?!

GinWithASplashOfTonic · 29/05/2020 21:54

Coincidentally wondering the same thing earlier.

Depends who it is, the person I know goes by their first name with friends, their stage name is more of a name only used when at ‘work’.

I know a few and for us who have known from before, its always been the nickname /shortening of his/her name we used pre celebrity status. Their celeb friends /work friends tend to call them by their stage or celeb name. They answer to both.
Samtsirch · 29/05/2020 22:03

The few celebs I know only use their actual name as their stage name so it’s not an issue.

Lucindainthesky · 29/05/2020 22:04

Yes. I'm friends with Rihanna but we call her Robyn.

Megatron · 29/05/2020 22:06

@hellosunshine5 stop being such a dick, it's dull.

OP, my uncle has a stage name and no one ever calls him it in the family.

Zaphodsotherhead · 29/05/2020 22:16

I know a few authors who write under pen names and answer to both their real name and their pen name. But it can be awkward when you know them as one thing and someone else knows them as something else - it can be a while before you work out you are both talking about the same person.

LockdownLoppy · 29/05/2020 22:21

A family friend is a very well known pop star with a long career - nobody uses her stage name in private and she signs personal cards with her family name.

BlackAndWhiteCat01 · 29/05/2020 22:32

What do Lady Gagas friends call her?

Stef Grin

IckyIsAFuckingStupidWord · 29/05/2020 23:08

Like, does Dermot O’Leary get called Sean at home?!

I need to know this pointless fact!

maxonebitch · 29/05/2020 23:13

What about Hugh Dennis, is he Peter to his family ?
