Morven, after the mountain in Caithness where my mum spent a lot of time, it's also the name of a Gaelic mythical figure. I think Morven is a beautiful name, I hope you got something just as nice.

Mrsjayy · 28/05/2020 19:08

I used to work with a girl called Morven its a lovely name.

catgotyourtongue · 28/05/2020 19:10

I was nearly Courtney (that is now my middle name)
DH was nearly Francis (that is now his middle name)

DS8 nearly Freddie.
DD6 nearly Teddy or Isabella.
DS2 nearly Bear.

My older sister was nearly called my name but my Dad told the midwife a different name which was also on their list.

RustyBear · 28/05/2020 19:11

My older sister was almost called Elizabeth after my mum's mother. Until luckily they realised that if they had another daughter, they would either have to call her after my Dad's mother or mortally offend her. As my other grandmother was called Gladys, I am eternally grateful they changed their minds.

Emmapeeler1 · 28/05/2020 19:11

Amy came close I believe. Or Nicholas Smile

Tomorrowsanewday · 28/05/2020 19:13

AnnMarie, my mum said it was because she was an Elvis fan. I’m not sure of the connection.

IHateCoronavirus · 28/05/2020 19:15

Kevin (after my mother’s favourite nun!) Hmm

caringcarer · 28/05/2020 19:16

My Mum wanted to call me Pamela. Dad no real opinion but my three older sisters wanted a different name for me. Sisters got their own way. Glad as I'm not keen on Pamela.

shinybells · 28/05/2020 19:17

Juliet or Richard

fortifiedwithtea · 28/05/2020 19:17

I was called Graham to the point where my mum was sick of the in laws asking “ who is Graham today?

Then I arrived and surprised everyone in being a girl.

Mummytea24 · 28/05/2020 19:21

Chelsea or fanny

Heatherjayne1972 · 28/05/2020 19:23

Parents were hoping I’d be a boy apparently
So when the boys name wasn’t going work I almost got called Catherine hazel or Joanne
Took two days to settle on my name
Still hate the name they actually gave me

maddiemookins16mum · 28/05/2020 19:27

I was born in 1964, I was going to be named Heather, Alison or Ruth. I wasn’t.

Sadie789 · 28/05/2020 19:29

My mum wanted to call me Tanya but my thankfully dad wouldn’t let her.

GaraMedouar · 28/05/2020 19:30

I was almost Michelle. If I was a boy I was going to be called Richard.

AdalindMeisner · 28/05/2020 19:32

Rachel (1979) I would have been 1 of 3 in my class but wouldn't have cared as it is far nicer than my Sunday name as I call it. I now go by a derivative of my name which is much nicer.

TellerTuesday4EVA · 28/05/2020 19:36

Tamara.

My aunt told my mum that I would be referred to as Tammy Tampax and then thankfully changed DM's mind.

My Grandad was to be called Adolf until the priest talked his mum out of it

Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese · 28/05/2020 19:39

Naomi, really wouldn't suit me.
My grandparents kicked off and said they'd use my middle name, so my parents chose the name they gave me.

MeninSuits · 28/05/2020 19:59

Victoria the someone pointed out the initials. Meaningless now but Sarah Tiffany would have the same meaning today

VD/STD

drudgewithagrudge · 28/05/2020 20:04

My parents couldn't agree (as usual) on my name. Father wanted Josephine and mother wanted Joy.

In the end my aunt settled the argument by suggesting the name I have. If I had been a boy I would have been Colin.

Weclapclapclapclapclaptogether · 28/05/2020 20:05

Victoria or Richard

Dondevastu · 28/05/2020 20:08

MY older brothers name is Robert, they wanted to call me Roberta! Confused
Thank fuck they changed their minds.

EwDavid · 28/05/2020 20:08

Hannah, until my mum and dad wisely clicked that with my surname my name would sound almost exactly like Hannibal Lecter.

Dondevastu · 28/05/2020 20:11

@MrsRogerLima what's wrong with Rebecca or the ones who've said Rachel?
I think those names never really date that much because they're biblical and yes it isnt a trendy name now but nor would it seem 'old lady' if I met a child named either of those.

DukeOfEarlGrey · 28/05/2020 20:12

Myfawnwy. Thankfully my mum vetoed - we are in no way Welsh and I would’ve had a lifetime of explaining/spelling it to strangers!
