I bloody, bloody love bread so much.

We're currently living near a bakery where the bread is almost always both crusty and still warm from the oven when you buy it. It's RIDICULOUSLY delicious and tends to go stale/mouldy very quickly so it's very easy for me and DP to horse down a loaf between us in a day. They put it through the machine so they're normal slices not the hacked off doorstep slabs I'd cut myself but even so 4 - 6 pieces a day seems excessive. What can I eat instead to stop me reaching for the bread-bin all day?? I tend to have two with breakfast (toast or tofu sandwich, avos on toast etc) and then almost always grab a few pieces with spread or Vegemite/peanut butter throughout the day. (Vegan btw).

I'm thinking I need to get into shakes or protein balls (BOAK) to fill me up. I have some protein powder but it's unbelievably disgusting.

Urgh, I feel like I've eaten a whole compost heap already today. I'm going for a bloody run.

Wild garlic focaccia is the bread of the gods.

Much to the dismay of the Dragon household, wild garlic season is pretty much over 😢

God, warm bread with thick cold Lurpak on...

I love bread, bagels, croissants but since low carbing and cutting out bread, pasta, etc. the weight fell off and I'd now rather be slim than full of bread. Still bloody miss it though Sad

As you were bread lovers.

The only other thing that will get me over the best bread and the right temperature butter is bread and the nicest olive oil to dip in to.

www.kingarthurflour.com/recipes/japanese-milk-bread-rolls-recipe#reviews

Just going to leave this recipe for the most amazing crusty yet soft bread rolls Ive ever made here (enriched dough). Serious, bakers, try it. I make the dough in the bread machine then final prove on the tray. You are about to put on 2 dress sizes. You're welcome! Grin

don't make the rolls...make the Milkloaf Dh swore it was like a slice of croissant without the flakey crumbs! :o

the kingarthur site is brilliant for recipes, my favourite is the Classic Sandwich loaf

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 28/05/2020 16:14

and this is a lovely recipe for Cinnamon rolls

I don't do the frosting, I like to butter mine

Turnandfacethenamechange · 28/05/2020 16:59

Proper bread should go stale, not mouldy

I feel like it's because they put it into a plastic bag at the baker so when people have their first few delicious warm slices they seal the bag back up with the toggle thing still slightly warm and the condensation makes it mould. It's weird mould too, bright red! Not that my loaves ever last that long tbh.

butter is bread and the nicest olive oil to dip in to

Oh lord yes. In Barcelona I had crunchy bread with this amazing weird bright green olive oil and a little thing of salt flakes. HEAVEN.

I work in a bakery and I'm just wondering how they put it through the slicer if it's still warm

It sort of shudders through it?? They pop them on a rack before slicing they don't sloce straight out the oven. So it's warm inside but has a crust 😋

The thread is titled "I bloody love bread" what did you think it would be about?

They made me laugh Grin

Yep, there's nothing like a lovely bread. It goes with so much. I presume you, and everyone else is talking white here? Only it seems as if it's white that is mainly frowned upon. Of course white is better. If I have a bacon or crisp sandwich it HAS to be white. Must admit I have alot of self control where bread is concerned - at the very most I would have 4 slices a day, usually only 2 or none at all, and mostly brown. I kind of switch my mind off from all things I know are too tempting, including cakes ☹️

doadeer · 28/05/2020 17:40

Oh yum me too! We don't buy fresh bread everyday - agree it goes stale quickly when you get the nice stuff so we have a day on, a day off!

MerryDeath · 28/05/2020 17:45

what is the problem with this exactly? eat the bread. delicious. no issues. enjoy it live yaw life you are hurting no one.

myusernamewastakenbyme · 28/05/2020 17:54

Im not too fussed about bread but my god i could live the rest of my life on potatoes...mash...chips...new potatoes with butter....roast....no wonder i cant lose weight.

TooOldForSims · 28/05/2020 17:59

I love bread but then again I am a carb queen Grin.

I also love garlic and if you combine garlic and bread together you get heavenly goodness.

Mascotte · 28/05/2020 18:01

@myusername my death row meal would be chips and crusty bread with loads of salty butter.

MarshaBradyo · 28/05/2020 18:11

Mine would be a pile of the best scallops you can find, in butter and garlic and a pile of crusty fresh bead.

Then two other courses (best rare roast beef, cauliflower cheese and tiramisu plus homemade chocolate eclairs because I can’t decide).

AgeLikeWine · 28/05/2020 18:22

I feel your pain, OP. Bread is one of my big weaknesses. If I bought a loaf of fresh, warm sourdough and a pack of Lurpak the inevitable outcome would be a small pile of crumbs.

It’s much, much easier to not have the stuff in the house on weekdays, when I’m being careful about what I eat.

@LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow

Thanks for the tip! My next project Grin

This thread has been an inspiration.
Today I have made pitta breads and attempted to bake a 4 strand round challah.

Babymamaroon · 28/05/2020 20:56

Oh me too! It's terrible. I could eat a loaf!! Why is it so damned delicious with butter, toasted, any topping...aaarrgghhh! I've had to go cold turkey. That and chocolate.

Fishfingersandwichplease · 28/05/2020 21:11

What about keeping it as a weekend treat? No guilt then (not that you should anyway obvs!)

Turnandfacethenamechange · 29/05/2020 02:33

My Jewish friend brought me in some Challah to try (pre vegan days obviously) and it totally blew me away, so delicious!

I was reheating some chilli earlier and buttering fresh bread to go with it - I ate all the bread before the chilli
