and I'm not sure that he fully believes that it was an accident.

It was one of those God awful giant sports direct ones and I did regularly complain about it. It was ugly and too big for the cupboard. But still I feel awful and it was an accident even if I had regularly fantasized about it's demise
I am still mourning the loss of the most perfect bone china cup that was smashed last year.

So please help me to replace it. Smile
The mug must be the same size ish as the original and I would like to get one with something that he would like on.
DH is very keen on science, star trek and planes. He is basically my lovely little geek.

Have a look at Glencoe. My Dh also likes to drink his tea from a bucket, and this mug has the perfect balance between volume and elegance. It's beautifully light china, with a big, comfortable handle. We now have one each, because I love it, too.

justanotherneighinparadise · 27/05/2020 09:38

I have one!

Needallthesleep · 27/05/2020 10:28

We got one with a delivery this weekend. Happy to send (and remove it from our cupboard).

Hamsterian · 27/05/2020 10:31

Dilbertian those mugs are really lovely!

RingaRosie · 27/05/2020 10:32

My DH fave mug is a big clunky thing from an American diner, that I’d never drink out of. Last week it slipped while I was washing the dishes & took a chunk out of my lovely Wedgewood China cup. Grrrr...

spongedog · 27/05/2020 10:38

I think Haynes do a mug that has the blueprint of the Enterprise. But I dont think it is very big.

Dilbertian · 27/05/2020 10:59

Hamsterian, and a pleasure to drink out of Smile

I just broke dh's favourite mug
Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 27/05/2020 11:01

Why don’t you replace it with a.....

Sports Direct mug? Just thinking outside the box there.

ScarfLadysBag · 27/05/2020 11:03

Because OP hates it and doesn't want another one in her house? Grin

Those Glencoe ones are amazing! Might treat myself Grin

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 27/05/2020 11:07

Yes, but it’s not actually the OP’s mug. Ds has one of these mugs. He likes it. I’m rather less keen. If I broke it I would expect to replace it... and not buy another mug just because I preferred it.

WhySeaEmm · 27/05/2020 11:12

They're outrageously expensive, but the Emma Bridgewater 1 pint mugs are fantastic (and you can personalise them!). DW loves hers and it's as big as a Sports Direct one. It's huge.

ScarfLadysBag · 27/05/2020 11:14

Well, no, it depends, surely? Is it his favourite mug because he really like Sports Direct? Or is it because it's massive? If the latter, then I'm sure he would enjoy one that fits in the same amount of tea but has something he's interested in even more Smile

schoolsoutforcovid · 27/05/2020 11:47

God don't give sports direct your business.

Starbucks city mugs are big. One from a city you've been to?

SeaToSki · 27/05/2020 11:47

Look at these

www.getdigital.co.uk/suche?query=Mug

Its a specialty geek site

SoupDragon · 27/05/2020 11:51

I am reasonably sure I have a giant Sports Direct mug in my garage. I think most people have as they appear from nowhere through a rift in the space-time continuum.

I'm sure Between us, MN could send you a good few of them.

SoupDragon · 27/05/2020 11:58

We used to count them at car boot sales. I think our record was 8.

notapizzaeater · 27/05/2020 11:59

We have the Nevis Dunoon mugs, love them they hold 1/2 litre and look good. (I'm a china snob and don't like my tea in a 'normal' mug)

MitziK · 27/05/2020 12:02

Be careful what you wish for.

Don't forget that the nesting ground/mouth of the wormhole for Sports Direct mugs, the Charity Shop, is closed.

Accept one donation and it'll be like this every time you open the cupboard door -

Ouchjuststoodonlego · 27/05/2020 12:02

Thank you for all of the offers of replacements I have visions of a fleet of giant SD mugs winging their way to my house.
I would just replace with the same @Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies but thoughts that it would be nicer to replace with something that he would really like.

Anyway, he has just come in and admitted that he felt a bit guilty every time he drank out of it because "the bloke who owns SD is such a massive bell end." so I thknknthat I am forgiven.

Thanks all for the suggestions of websites. I will go and have a good look for a nice one for him.

DS likes his tea out of one of these half pint mugs www.bigtomatocompany.com/shop.php?prd=3271&sub=original-classic-customise which I have customised with a phrase. I like the "classic bone china" version and have a large set with phrases the kids used to say on them. Not cheap but make me smile all the time.

Elephantonascooter · 27/05/2020 12:03

You can get ones that are the same size but say something like 'big tea' on the side. It's so awful when you break something of your oh's that you've previously complained about!
If dh broke my hedgehog mug I would be convinced it was secretly on purpose as every morning with my morning coffee I get an earful about its Impracticality.
In all honest, it's a shit mug. But it winds dh up so much its worth the little extra work per swig!

Ouchjuststoodonlego · 27/05/2020 12:05

Haha @MitziK that is the stuff of nightmares. They are bloody awful things and I can't say that I didn't get a tiny bit of pleasure from the sound that it made as it hit the bottom of the outside bin.

heres a link to the star trek mug i was thinking of

dudsville · 27/05/2020 13:53

Ha ha, those sports direct mugs are ugly! I feel for you. My OH breaks things fairly regularly and is anxious about my 3 favourite mugs, often leaving them for me to clean or move, which is ok with me!

notapizzaeater · 27/05/2020 14:04

The sports direct mugs are the perfect size for a tin of beans to lob in microwave 😍
