Does anyone miss dressing up?!

Not for a ball or anything, just making an effort for going to the pub type thing!

I really, really miss it. It's only just occurred to me that I was given some gorgeous jewellery for Mother's Day and I haven't actually worn it because it's 'going out' jewellery. I haven't worn make up for weeks, I can't remember the last time I styled my hair and my current wardrobe is full of tracksuit bottoms and comfy t-shirts! That is SO not me.

I want to wear some nice jeans and a pretty top. I want to wear heels. I want to wear lipstick again, use eyeliner etc, etc. Of course I could do all that at home, but it would be pointless chasing after the kids in heels, or feeding the baby in a gorgeous silky top or walking the muddy dogs in expensive jeans. I just grab whatever's nearest in the morning and shove my hair up.

It's totally trivial, I get that, but does anyone else feel the same?!

Yes! I'm totally feeling the same!

I hear the weather is to be really nice shortly and am planning on scaring the moths out of my wardrobe and wearing a maxi dress just for the hell of it! Exciting times!

I dress up every evening, have done since about the second week of lockdown. Daytime wear is leggings and a vest (unless I have online work meetings) but I like that DP and I bother to make an effort for ourselves and each other for dinner and after. It makes a huge difference mentally and also marks a transition in the day. Go for it, what’s stopping you?

MyBlueMoonbeam · 27/05/2020 02:07

Yes but no too - I don't think any of my decent stuff would fit me around the middle atm 😱

Ipadipod · 27/05/2020 02:18

I haven’t missed dressing up at all , I love not having the faff of putting on makeup or styling my hair. In fact I’ve discovered that what I thought was hay fever causing watery eyes is actually mascara.

managedmis · 27/05/2020 02:21

Me too!

Totally desperate to wear heels and a pencil skirt

Might wear a dress tomorrow (even though I'm not going anywhere)

elp30 · 27/05/2020 02:58

Yes!

Today I went to the store to buy a few grocery items. I put my new lipstick on in the car before going in. I got to the door and realized the store policy is to wear a face mask.

I was pretty sad.

Littleshortcake · 27/05/2020 09:50

I totally get this. I have resorted to wearing a pair of trousers until they wear out rather than wearing clothes I actually like but I am not going anywhere. I started a strict diet I intend to keep and a lumea regime and so on.

The date night is a great idea though.

StarlightLady · 27/05/2020 11:01

When working from home, I still wear a little make up and usually wear dresses. It’s not that l think anyone will notice in video conferences. It’s like wearing nice lingerie, it’s all part of my feel good factor.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 27/05/2020 11:11

The only positive is that there is more money in my bank account, because I have done no online clothes shopping, apart from a pair of slippers. I wear workout leggings and vest in the morning and then other leggings afterwards. Haven’t worn any smart stuff for months.

I’ve just got out last year’s summer stuff and that’ll do this year.

Oldraver · 27/05/2020 12:27

On the couple of occasions I have gone out I have 'dressed' up, well put on a dress accessories and even a bra

Though I must say I prefer a nice cotton dress to be walking in rather than the outdoor gear I see most wearing.

MrsJBaptiste · 27/05/2020 14:12

Totally miss it! So I get dressed up every Friday and Saturday night just to sit in the house/garden and drink cocktails Gin

I've now found I'm wearing more of my clothes than before - gym clothes when I get up then short and a nice sun top during the day and a dress for the evening. The kids think I'm mad to get dressed up just to stay in but I don't care anymore!

dudsville · 27/05/2020 15:14

I'm on week 11 here. It took ages for me to want to stop wearing "home wear" everyday and actually get dressed. Now I definitely want to be wearing my lovely dresses but it seems like a waste as they are all cotton and have to be ironed and it doesn't seem worth it if I'm not going out! I also went a while without doing my hair. I've been doing the curly girl method (always wanted to try it!) and am loving it. Makeup remains off the agenda. I don't like how I look without it, but I like not wearing it!

I put make up on for the first time since lockdown began the other day for a video call and honestly, I hated it. I've got so used to seeing my face without it! I probably won't give it up entirely, but I'll definitely use less (and I don't use much to begin with).

I do miss dressing up, though. I've ordered a couple of day dresses in the sales to swish around the house in!

Greenteandchives · 27/05/2020 17:03

I really miss dressing up. I know I could just do it, but it seems a bit pointless. I love putting on a dress and heels for a night out, especially on holiday. I think I will have forgotten how to walk in my heels. I’ve certainly forgotten how to drive.

BlusteryLake · 27/05/2020 17:12

I have really missed wearing my spring blazers. No point wearing them in the house really!

HelloChompy · 27/05/2020 22:29

I miss it too! For our VE day party, even though we were just sitting in our front garden to talk to our neighbours in their garden, I got a bit dressed up. I wore a maxi dress that I bought in the sale at the end of last summer, and hadn't yet had chance to wear, and my best sandals! It made a nice change even though it was a bit over the top for sitting on my drive 😁

Windyatthebeach · 27/05/2020 22:30

I painted my toe nails to take the ddog out yesterday! Blush

nitgel · 27/05/2020 22:33

Im wearing dresses alot more than i usually do. Am also wearing 'best' things for ths hell of it. It's fun

BillyAndTheSillies · 27/05/2020 22:37

I put a full face of make up on the other day just to go to the park. Realised that I actually don't look any better with it so will save it for nights out when I can do full eye make up.

Poor DS2 has spent a few afternoons in the garden dressed up in lots of lovely outfits that I'd had stored up for weddings and family gatherings that he's about to burst out of.

I'm really looking forward to the day when I can get my nice handbags and shoes out of their dust bags and boxes.

anothermansmother · 27/05/2020 22:38

I did my hair properly for the first time in 10 weeks. When my friend FaceTimed last night he was surprised to see that I didn't have it tied back like I gave for the past 10 weeks I did feel good though. I have to go food shopping tomorrow so I think I may put on some make up...because I can.
I have loads of lovely dresses I wear all the time( as I don't own or wear trousers) but I have loads of going out dresses just staring at me in the hope they will be chosen. I may just wear a different one every day just do they can have an outing this year.

BreatheDeeplyInTheSilence · 27/05/2020 22:44

I panic bought a few t-shirts before lockdown as I didn't really have any nice staying in clothes! I've started straightening my hair again as it was getting a bit feral. This week I put make up on. I looked like me again and I'm going to keep it up. I never wore much anyway, so it's not over the top. As for clothes, I never realised how much I love leggings!

SingingTunelessly · 27/05/2020 22:51

Seriously @managedmis. Nobody has worn these since 1990. Or are you Alexis Carrington?

“Totally desperate to wear heels and a pencil skirt”. 🙄
