100%

I also wouldn't mind being allowed to throw eggs at the stupid twats too

IntoTheUnknown89 · 24/05/2020 00:21

My DH is pro-life Envy (not envy)

I don't like the idea of people like him with his "ideals" and "Just stay pregnant and give it up" standing outside a place where women are going for an entirely legal medical procedure.

I personally think that most men that protest are anti women and anti choice Angry.

My DH thinks men should actually have a say in whether women stay pregnant or not!

ShinyFootball · 24/05/2020 00:34

Why is he pro life if you don't mind me asking?

And what is his reasoning behind thinking men should have a say in whether a woman should have to give birth or have to have an abortion against her will?

How do you reconcile his fairly extreme view within your relationship?

It's a position I'm familiar with but interested to hear your thoughts. Not going to have a go! You don't have to answer obv

ChocolatelyAsFuck · 24/05/2020 00:46

I don’t believe anti-abortion protestors are “pro-life” because if they were, there are a thousand things they could do that would actually lower the abortion rate, as well as making things safer for babies born to vulnerable women.

But usually people who are against abortion are also against things that would lower the abortion rate, like sex education, free access to contraceptives (or sometimes contraceptives themselves), and financial support to vulnerable single mothers.

Being anti-abortion is nothing to do with wanting to save babies and everything to do with wanting to control women.

IntoTheUnknown89 · 24/05/2020 00:46

@ShinyFootball My DH used to be with this woman who he is certain had an abortion when they were together. I think he hates her for it and every other woman since that's made that choice.

My DH has narcissistic personality disorder, quite honestly I can see why she would have made that choice but that's irrelevant.

He doesn't think women should have abortions full stop. For any reason, ever. He thinks that the man should be offered the baby if the woman doesn't want to have a baby. Or she should give the baby to a childless couple. It's that simple apparently.

I obviously accept that everyone is allowed and entitled to their opinion but I do not believe that DHs opinion is because he believes that its best for a theoretical baby. I think he just doesn't like the idea of not having that choice.

It has caused a few arguments I will say. I have said to him "You've no idea how physically and mentally hard it is to be pregnant and give birth or to miscarry" - at one point he actually rolled his eyes and said "Oh here we go". I could've screamed. We agreed to never talk about the subject again.

IntoTheUnknown89 · 24/05/2020 00:47

@ChocolatelyAsFuck Agreed!!

beautifulmonument · 24/05/2020 00:51

Yes absolutely.

Here in Australia we have 150m "safe zones" around clinics where no protestors are allowed.

ShinyFootball · 24/05/2020 01:02

Into the unknown thanks for the reply.

He must have some incredible qualities to keep him a 'D' H!

mylittlesandwich · 24/05/2020 01:19

I am completely agreed that people should have the right to peacefully protest whatever they want. People however should not have the right to harass and cause distress to other people.
I always remember when I was going back to work after my miscarriage there was a group of pro-life protestors on the street. They had traffic signs with pictures I found especially upsetting. One noticed I was upset and tried to put the sign in my face, I assume he thought I'd had an abortion and that was why I was finding it hard to stomach. People like that are so unkind that I find it incredible that they often cite religion as a reason.

macdhui · 24/05/2020 01:32

Absolutely, these nutters are unhinged. After a shooting in Melbourne a few years they changed the law in Australia and there is now an exclusion zone around abortion clinics.

Cheeeeislifenow · 24/05/2020 01:37

@intotheunknown
I'm really sorry I don't mean to be rude but how can you tolerate that?
I couldn't stand to be beside him.

ShinyFootball · 24/05/2020 01:43

Everyone has different lines.

I appreciate intotheunkown replying.

I am also interested in that question tbh

IntoTheUnknown89 · 24/05/2020 01:48

@Tryingtoslim

All I will say is that I have to for now. Lots of gritting of teeth. His mask has well and truly slipped.

socialhermit · 24/05/2020 01:49

Yes I would

Bflatmajorsharp · 24/05/2020 01:49

SonetLuminere but making it unlawful to 'protest' outside FP clinics isn't preventing these people from exercising their right to protest.

They can protest outside parliament, lobby their MPS, organise petitions and the many other things that people do in a democratic society.

They just wouldn't be permitted to harass and intimidate women accessing perfectly lawful health care.

DustyMaiden · 24/05/2020 01:57

My DD was harassed by these people, she left and went home. I have a lovely DGS. I don’t know what to think as she is grateful to them.

Rgjt · 24/05/2020 02:00

Yes I would agree to ban them, my own view is that I would never have an abortion but that is only my view and I don't like having other people's opinions pushed on me so why should anyone else? Especially through a very personal and difficult situation such as this.

sergeilavrov · 24/05/2020 03:58

I emailed the police, got the details from the centre, to complain about the harassment - they threw an egg at one poor woman. Never got a reply, despite sending it from my most “official” email account. It was awful. Lots of women from the Middle East go to one near Heathrow, and they get a horrible time. I was miscarrying after being raped, and was so angry I typed the email while walking half the distance back to the airport accidentally. Still furious I didn’t get a response.

100%

timeforawine · 24/05/2020 06:51

Yes

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 24/05/2020 07:08

Yes. I'm all for an exclusion zone, even with a designated spot for them to stand well away from the entrance.

They are targeting the wrong people- by the time a woman needs an abortion, it's too late. They should be concentrating on helping women avoid pregnancy instead.

You can never ban abortion. Just stop access to safe legal abortion.

Eachpeachtree · 24/05/2020 07:13

Yes absolutely I would.

Deathraystare · 24/05/2020 07:35

YES

crankysaurus · 24/05/2020 07:36

Yes, absolutely. I don't see buffer zones as banning or curtailing protest but protecting vulnerable women from harassment in a very limited but important space.
