Suspect friends are cheating on weekly zoom quiz

I’m a bit sceptical because I host a weekly quiz with friends online which we all really enjoy. There’s no prize so I suppose it doesn’t really matter but the same couple win every week and I suspect they’re cheating. The husband is a clever guy but they get a near perfect score every week and others have started making comments to me in private. I don’t think I’ll say anything because they’ll just take offence and it’ll spoil the good atmosphere we have. I just think it’s a bit of a shame that others don’t get to feel good about themselves for a change. Have any of you cheated during online quizzes?

tell them you want to take it in turn to host or change the quesitons up pictures sound clips?

OhMsBeliever · 23/05/2020 13:49

I take part in a zoom quiz with my boyfriend. We're usually in the top 3 (we won this week, yay! Stealth boast Grin) but no way would we cheat.

The couple who run the quiz do extra bonus rounds like fancy dress, making stuff, etc, and award bonus points so others get a head start if they are good at that sort of thing.

I'm quite competitive but it's all a bit of fun. They're only cheating themselves when there's no prize in it. But it is very annoying.

Redcrayons · 23/05/2020 13:49

We have the same thing on ours. The only round they don’t get a full house is the picture round.
It’s baffling, there’s no prize, and we only remember who won because it’s the same two every week.

imamum21 · 23/05/2020 13:50

use kahoot there is a time limit to answer questions.

AKAanothername · 23/05/2020 13:59

Use the share screen function and have more picture rounds. We've had a face mash round (two celeb faces mashed together), a google earth landmark round, brand logos, film stills (made more fun by superimposing faces of participants onto the actors faces), for a family quiz we also had a guess the year with photos of various family events.

twilightermummy · 23/05/2020 14:34

This is hilarious!

InFiveMins · 23/05/2020 14:37

Sounds to me like they are cheating especially with him being off camera.

ProseccoBubbleFantasies · 23/05/2020 14:39

Shameless placemark to see if they win again this week

LittleRa · 23/05/2020 14:41

People saying make the questions ungooglable or asking can you not see them on their phones- surely to cheat, they’re not actually even looking up the answers. You just mark your own in a Zoom quiz so when the answer is read out they just mark it correct and give their top score, regardless of what they actually got.

TheFlis12345 · 23/05/2020 14:42

We joined a quiz with friends of friends and they had a rule that all people’s hands and their phones had to be visible on camera at all times as some of them were suspected of having cheated at a previous quiz!

3cats · 23/05/2020 14:42

Oh, god, what utter saddos to cheat.

I agree that either everyone stays on camera. Just a light and cheery, hey Julie we can’t see you properly, or try some different games.

Andi2020 · 23/05/2020 14:56

Ask questions that cant be googled
Like what is someone in your friend group middle name
Maiden name
How many kids are in someone in the teams family
Birthday of child
Toy child likes
Drink or food fav TV programmes
My dd does one off these and a girl younger than my dd got a question right that they would not have even been born when It was on the soap It was about Trisha dingle so the girl definitely cheated as did others. That girl came first that week the teacher didn't post results on Facebook that week so she obviously knew they cheated.

My dd came last so obviously didn't cheat
She does one on a Friday and loves it as its natural and no one cheats and theh have great fun. Winner is always someone different.

TheMandalorian · 23/05/2020 15:02

Just congratulate the second place winners instead and ignore cheating couple?
It's very annoying. We have couple in our games group who always want to play the same game because they have memorized all the quiz cards. Very dull for everyone else.

BessMarvin · 23/05/2020 15:09

If the first, then you could put together ‘ungooglable quiz questions’, so what comes next in this sequence etc (google will suggest lots more).

If you get them from googling then wouldn't they be able to Google them? If that makes sense!

user1471565182 · 23/05/2020 15:17

Change all the answers to wrong ones on wikipedia?

fuckinghellthisshit · 23/05/2020 15:22

WTF is the point in doing it at all?

titsbumfannythelot · 23/05/2020 15:35

Ask them to take charge of the quiz one week given their amazing general knowledge.

Only if the competitiveness did not extend to making said quiz hard/ not enjoyable for others.

JustStayHome · 23/05/2020 15:38

Ask them to do the questions for afew weeks....

My partner is very clever and gets a near on perfect score....
He knows the majority of the answers on programmes like the chase and who wants to be a millionaire.
He wouldnt cheat....

afrikat · 23/05/2020 15:43

We do a weekly quiz and have won every time. We never cheat we are just both really good at general knowledge and also have different specialist areas so between us there isnt much we get wrong. We did actually discuss losing on purpose in case it was getting annoying for people, maybe you are our friends?? 🙈

3cats · 23/05/2020 15:47

I’m a teacher and winner does the questions for next week works very well to stop people dominating things. I know you don’t mind doing the questions, but it might be fun to mix things up a bit.

Bluefargo · 23/05/2020 15:47

Use Kahoot - that way the speed of answer reduces the cheaters people do a lot more guessing!

YerAWizardHarry · 23/05/2020 15:49

My partner (and me by extension) has won every quiz we have done in lockdown. Several different groups too. He just has a brain full of random facts and figures.

Moonflower12 · 23/05/2020 15:55

As previous posters have said do things that are ungoogleable. Then as each question is read out they have to hold up the answer- so they can't mark their wrong answers, right.

greengauges · 23/05/2020 16:04

Maybe have a round with questions so obscure that the only possible way you could know the answer is if you cheated and Googled it.

Such as: Red Rum won the Grand National in 1973 and 1974 - which horse came fourth in both races?

emilybrontescorsett · 23/05/2020 16:14

I agree with using kahoot. The fastest correct answer wins the point and you all keep your answers into your device so you can’t cheat. Ask questions which they are unlikely to know and put personal ones in as suggested such as what is my sons middle name.
Do name the song , multiple choice and throw in some that they absolutely will not know. The thing with Kahoot is it keeps a running sore of the top scorers.
