Suspect friends are cheating on weekly zoom quiz

I’m a bit sceptical because I host a weekly quiz with friends online which we all really enjoy. There’s no prize so I suppose it doesn’t really matter but the same couple win every week and I suspect they’re cheating. The husband is a clever guy but they get a near perfect score every week and others have started making comments to me in private. I don’t think I’ll say anything because they’ll just take offence and it’ll spoil the good atmosphere we have. I just think it’s a bit of a shame that others don’t get to feel good about themselves for a change. Have any of you cheated during online quizzes?

Yep we have cheaters.

It’s fine though. We have proper players that win pub quiz jormally so everyone knows they are the ones to beat.

We have suspected cheaters too, always the risk in zoom quizzes. Just have to try not to let it rile you and carry on maintaining your own integrity.

Ask picture questions- what's the album cover etc

seadog1977 · 23/05/2020 17:29

We have guess the spot the right logo , so two Tesco logos one slightly different and you have to guess the same one .

Memory , so they show you a picture of random objects and you have to remember them .

Chocolate bars cut in half .

True and false questions .

Picture rounds

And all on timers so you don't have enough time to google

emilybrontescorsett · 23/05/2020 18:44

Also ask them the answers at the end that's what I do then it's obvious who has got it right.

At our family quiz I’ve won all but once (and the time I’ve hosted). I suspect they think I’m cheating and I feel like I should stop taking part Sad

Do a quiz based on something very different. I assume you do general knowledge.

Put a board behind you with things on it and do the quiz from that room. At half time take it away, and ask what was on it.

Buy chocolate take out of wrappers and ask them what they are called. Maybe chop some in half if it helps. Buy some of the stranger ones.

That sort of thing.

I remember me and a random bunch of people thrown together won a quiz (properly in real life) and the local quiz team were furious. But hardly any rounds were general knowledge they were all a bit daft! It levels the playing field and if they get high scores on that too I would be more suspicious. Not that you can do much about it unless you get answers sent to you by email and then score and announce.

You could do that. Do it under the guise that you have a prize this week (bottle wine maybe)

That is so annoying, it would drive me crazy it’s so pointless.

If you’re the host do you set all the questions? If so definitely do a few picture rounds. Google ‘movie poster quiz’ for some images of posters without the titles and names, images of film stars from the 30s or obscure Alt Rock bands or classic soap characters whatever they’d be least likely to know.

If you want to stick to regular questions how about things like ‘name one of the wives from The Real Housewives of Atlanta’ - a whole round of obscure z-list trivia hardly anyone would know. It’s not fair on the others but if they still get a near-perfect score it’s even more suspicious.

RandomMess · 23/05/2020 21:23

Tell them it's their turn to be quiz masters 😂

TheoneandObi · 23/05/2020 21:41

We make the winners be next weeks quiz masters. I'm shit hot at quizzes tho so it's us every other week. Honestly I got 12/12 in a music round this week. My brain is like a magpie. Attracted to shiny info but not very deep! I'd be mortified if I thought my fellow quizzers suspected me of cheating!

hellohungryimmummy · 23/05/2020 21:42

I used to work with a load of actuaries - they were very geeky blokes and won every single company quiz. They remember so much stuff so it’s possible that your friends are not cheating!

Kez200 · 23/05/2020 21:45

I agree if the quiz is designed similarly its quite possible their type of intelligence will always trump the others. You need to tap in on a different type of intelligence and hope they arent so good at that!

BlueJava · 23/05/2020 22:13

DP's family did a few of these. There were so many accusations of cheating and o many protestations I wondered what the point was. I have been "busy" and not joined after the first one as it wasn't a nice atmosphere.

3cats · 24/05/2020 03:32

I think a combination of these things. First, I would make a rule that everyone playing must be fully on camera at all times. I think that’s just fair. I also thing having a few round that can’t be googled is a great idea. Zoom is perfect for picture quizzes so outlines of countries, pictures of world leaders or famous landmarks, that sort of thing. It will soon flush out whether they are cheaters or not.

Grumpylockeddownwoman · 24/05/2020 07:55

Just the title of this thread has made me giggle. But yes you can do a few “no-cheating” rounds.

emilybrontescorsett · 24/05/2020 09:24

You could make something up such as name the song, and then make it up!
Then you absolutely know they are cheating if they claim to have got that right!
