How long does cheese last in your house?

We love cheese in this house. We got through two-thirds of a block that was collected on the food shop this morning, as well as a mozzarella and some feta. That's for 2 adults, a 3 year old and a one year old. We buy 3-4 blocks a week plus other cheeses for meals or with crackers.

Just wondering how long a block of cheese lasts in your household?

Not v.long. 100g or a kilo I could just eat it. Unfortunately I love artisan cheese so when it's £3+ for 100g it gets expensive. I love a good cheese shop. In another life I once had a day in Paris to get something made(!!) and went to a famous fromagerie opp Notre Dame. It was heaven. My daughter buffs when we go in a cheese shop. It's a drawn out taste fest. But oddly she likes tasting the cheeses. Other cheese e.g. feta goes in a salad but then a goats cheese and mushroom tart is a mighty thing

About 1 kg a week, two adults two teens: sometimes a couple of little different ones as well. More at Christmas, obviously Grin. I could never be a vegan.

I but three blocks a week, mostly eaten by19yo DS on pizza or as cheese on toast

Ltdannygreen · 22/05/2020 22:12

We go through around 2 big blocks and about 4 bags of grated. There are 8 of us though and sometimes it can be more. If we get vintage cheese it goes in one sitting.

Purpleorange1 · 22/05/2020 22:16

We go through 3 blocks of cheese each week. Our calcium kid happily chomps on a block like it's a slice of cake 😂 she has cheese for breakfast, cheese sandwich for lunch, cheese as a snack and cheese with her tea. She loves her calcium.

Passthecake30 · 22/05/2020 22:17

Wow, shocked at how fast the cheese goes in some of your houses! We get through about 350g a week, sometimes a little more but never more than the big packs (550g) 2 adults and 2 pre teens.

masonmason · 22/05/2020 22:24

Some weeks we go through 3/4 blocks. Sometimes we don't eat it for weeks at a time!

CatBatCat · 22/05/2020 22:25

How big is your block? That could be loads or not that much

FeelinFagin · 22/05/2020 22:27

My husband used to work with a bloke who also worked at Arla. Every now and then he's come home with a giant catering block of Lockerbie cheddar. 5kg of delicious mature cheddar. The whole lot would be gone in less than a week. Kids are 13,10 and 8 and love cheddar as much as DH and I. Despite being able to wolf a 5kg block of cheddar, things like blue cheeses, Brie, Goats cheese, Halloumi and feta wouldn't be touched at all.

Fckingfuming · 22/05/2020 22:30

About 7 minutes. HTHGrin

BamboozledandBefuddled · 22/05/2020 22:30

Doesn't last long at all and it's me that eats most of it Blush If I had to choose one food to live on forever it would be cheese (as long as that covered all varieties so I didn't just end up with Cheddar Grin)

Smarshian · 22/05/2020 22:33

2 adults. 2 toddlers. Usually but a block of cheddar (350g) a week. Sometimes get a block of feta or some blue cheese as well.

ponchek · 22/05/2020 22:37

4 weeks?

Longdistance · 22/05/2020 22:40

In my fridge I currently have, Stilton, Gorgonzola, Port Salou, Feta, Mozzarella, Cheddar, Red Leicester and marmite minis. The only one not open is the Stilton as the Gorgonzola is open Blush
I go to a cheese festival every year.
It’s all about the cheese—and wine—

RedSoloCup · 22/05/2020 22:44

Oh dear not long! Two big blocks a week plus feta and halloumi 😂😂😂

Gingerkittykat · 22/05/2020 22:51

Longdistance, I want to come to your house for a cheese party!

It depends, in last weeks shop I bought feta, a mix of 5 grated cheese, and some cheese slices with onions in them and haven't touched them. Other times I will go through a macaroni cheese phase and eat tonnes of the stuff.

Lostinbooksandcoffee · 22/05/2020 23:48

I'm so glad it's not just us! My friend is vegetarian (I'm nearly there) and was surprised as she doesn't go through that much.

I was going to say 'a lot', but we can't compete with you.

yomellamoHelly · 23/05/2020 09:16

A lot longer than you guys! 350g block will last us 3-4 weeks. Only ever add a little to what ever meal we're having that needs it. Don't ever really sit and eat it on its own.

massistar · 23/05/2020 09:29

We don't eat a lot of cheddar but get through mountains of feta, halloumi, mozzarella, Parmesan, manchego, Perl wen.. cheese monsters all round!

Littleshortcake · 23/05/2020 09:32

I don't buy it as it would be gone in a flash. I only get if when I need to make school lunches. Dh doesnt eat it.

CrowleysBentley · 23/05/2020 09:36

We go through a big block of vintage cheddar, and a pack of something like sliced gouda or smoked cheese plus a ball of mozzarella as it's DD's favourite. I buy a large bag of grated parmesan about once a fortnight too.

It's only me and 19yo DD that eat cheese here too Blush

HilaryBriss · 23/05/2020 10:12

What do you ask do with that much cheese, eat it on its own or use it in meals ir something? I get through a small pack a week and that is usually cheese sandwiches, other than that or on top of lasagne or pasta bake, I wouldn't really know what else to do with it!

BissueTox · 23/05/2020 11:30

We eat tons of cheese. Too much really, a 500g block of cheddar goes in a week plus we've always got blue cheese, feta, goats cheese and halloumi in the fridge.
