Would you go to a bbq this weekend?

Friends have invited us over. We have early teen children who know all about 2 metre rule.
Friends have a large garden and a outdoor loo so no need to go into their house at all.

Also live in a rural position with no close neighbours.

Bloody hell, no.

Individually, the risk is probably low (although you being a key worker increases that significantly). But the problem is that everyone thinks that and the next thing you know, 30% of the population is doing this and the overall risk/transmission goes up. Not sure why this isn't obvious.

So, with totally made up numbers, if at this point you have to see 100 people before you're likely to get Covid, the risk for you at a BBQ with 10 people is low. But if there are 10 BBQs with 10 people at each, at least one person is going to get Covid. And then it continues to spread.

It's the cumulative effect and as a society we have to make the effort.

No

Bertucci · 22/05/2020 17:26

No, of course not. This is not yet permitted.

Selfsettling3 · 22/05/2020 17:28

No

Oblomov20 · 22/05/2020 17:30

I'm surprised so many said yes at the start of the thread.

I'm also surprised that so many are saying no. It's not that risky. If you are meeting one friend fir a walk, surely the next step, the next relaxation the Government will offer is small gatherings?

So BBQ's for 6? 10? Will surely be the next step?

Oblomov20 · 22/05/2020 17:32

The 2 I'm a public space will surely be relaxed soon, ie the next step, by the Government, to 2 in a home, ie visiting your Mum or your Gran?

ButareyouOK · 22/05/2020 17:34

No

aliceinsunderland44 · 22/05/2020 17:57

My mum is a key worker and I haven't seen her since lockdown began. Why would you risk it when you have been in contact with the public daily? What about your 'friends'?

Ffs people need to grow up.

transformandriseup · 22/05/2020 18:04

Not yet

Momniscient · 22/05/2020 18:04

No. Stay at home, keep everyone safe. The 2m rule is for unavoidable situations like needing to buy food. It's a pandemic not a national holiday.

TitsalinaBumSquash · 22/05/2020 18:16

A huge applause for all you saying yes - it's selfish arseholes like you that will make this shit show go on longer which means for families like mine who are shielding will be shut in even longer, our mental health is in the toilet and our physical health is declining, WE ARE SUFFERING but you crack on with your bbqs, of course your social life is faaarrr more important than the disabled people in this country.

fussychica · 22/05/2020 18:23

No not even with a noodle hat to ensure my 2metre distancing (as seen at a bar in Germany) Grin

theThreeofWeevils · 22/05/2020 18:28

You shouldn’t be using a shared loo with another household unless its cleaned properly every time it is used

Christ almighty. Do you imagine that workplace lavatories are cleaned completely each time someone goes for a pee?

Just wash your hands properly and use a bit of common sense.

highmarkingsnowbile · 22/05/2020 18:32

Plenty are expected to go to work and use the lav there, the one that's shared by their colleagues from different households.

okiedokieme · 22/05/2020 18:38

I would but I'm pretty laid back about the whole situation now I've had it!

rhowton · 22/05/2020 18:46

Yes, I'm off to my parents tomorrow for a BBQ. They live in the country with an annex for us to use. I'm going and I can't wait!

fairynick · 22/05/2020 18:49

I would go

JustStayHome · 22/05/2020 18:50

No.

Amazed at the people who said yes.

Ffs

Pertella · 22/05/2020 18:50

Interesting seeing the abuse being dished out by those that wouldnt go...

egfd2557 · 22/05/2020 18:55

Yes I would

daisymay133 · 22/05/2020 18:57

Yes

Because unless I’m going to stay in til there’s a vaccine then what am I wacrually staying in for ?

Nhs is under capacity which was entire aim of lockdown

It’s moot gonna suddenly go cod we all hid two months

The second wave would happen whether we open up in two months or two weeks

Do people just not get it?

PickAChew · 22/05/2020 18:58

Nope but only because it's too bloody windy.

StealthPolarBear · 22/05/2020 18:59

I suppose for me it would depend how well you know the other family. We have been pretty much isolating, working from home, super market delivery, just poping to the local shop if necessary. If i knew they had been doing the same then yes I would probably go"
Presumably they're also the people who've been going to barbecues where everyone can be 'careful'

Also what will you do if it starts to pour down just as the food is served?

TrickyKid · 22/05/2020 18:59

No.

SauvignonBlanche · 22/05/2020 19:01

God no!

Like you OP I’m a key worker (NHS) and am literally on top of people at work and am unable to socially distance but I still wouldn’t do this.

Once people get together and have a few drinks they’ll soon forget how to behaved responsibly. Don’t do it!
