Would you go to a bbq this weekend?

Friends have invited us over. We have early teen children who know all about 2 metre rule.
Friends have a large garden and a outdoor loo so no need to go into their house at all.

Also live in a rural position with no close neighbours.

Yes I would. You won't be any closer to them than you would be to people in a public park. I know it's technically not 'allowed' but if you're sensible then go for it.

BendingSpoons · 22/05/2020 12:35

No. PIL have asked us to come to a BBQ tomorrow. We have said no as it's clearly against the rules. You would be sharing a toilet, food, sauce bottles etc.

I realise the risk is minimal and it's frustrating but it's clearly against the rules (meeting one person outside your household).

Peaseblossom22 · 22/05/2020 12:35

No I wouldn’t

It’s not about the loo inside it’s that the largest concentration of particles in Wuhan found when the loo flushed. So it’s sharing loos anywhere Which is a problem. Sharing chairs etc

poozel · 22/05/2020 12:35

No, because it's against the rules.

However, mumsnet does confuse me, I was surprised to see so many saying no.

Lots of other threads where people complaining about neighbours doing similar and OP jumped on for noticing, up to them what they do etc.

LetTheSecretOut · 22/05/2020 12:37

I suppose for me it would depend how well you know the other family. We have been pretty much isolating, working from home, super market delivery, just poping to the local shop if necessary. If i knew they had been doing the same then yes I would probably go. Surely the risk there is really low?

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 22/05/2020 12:37

Yes but then I went round to the neighbours garden last week . Didn't eat anything though and didn't need to use their toilet.

MindyStClaire · 22/05/2020 12:37

We're in NI where groups up to six can meet outdoors at 2m now, including in gardens. So we're having PIL up for a BBQ on Sunday.

TheThingWithFeathers · 22/05/2020 12:37

No! How are you going to stay 2m away if you are sharing food from the same barbecue?!

20viona · 22/05/2020 12:38

No no no no no no

BasinHaircut · 22/05/2020 12:39

I don’t think so, but I am also a bit of a rule follower. Yesterday I would have said yes.

Last night I Arranged to meet a friend for a socially distanced walk. I got to her house and she want ready so invited me in. I didn’t touch anything but I’m aware this is against the rules.

She suggested that we walk to another friends house for a driveway chat. We ended up having tea round the garden table.

Made me realise what a slippery slope to complete abandonment of social distancing it is when you just think ‘oh it will be ok if I just......’

I’m not an OTT stickler for the rules, I have throughout been out more than once a day for a walk for example and am comfortable with the (virtually non-existent) risk of doing so, but these things over which there is ultimately less control are not the same.

DontLookBackYappityYap · 22/05/2020 12:39

No i wouldn't but I think its a stupid rule and I'm getting very irritated by them.

Although it seems like many are not able to think critically, some can.

Its annoying that 1000's are on a beach with sod all social distancing - yet a few people can not social distance at with a well thought out plan.

RoosterPie · 22/05/2020 12:39

Personally no. I’m not an avid rule follower and understand immediate family in the garden etc but it’s a bit soon for travelling to a friend for a BBQ in my opinion.

LST · 22/05/2020 12:40

Yes. Under some circumstances. It's my nans birthday on Sunday and we are having a socially distanced drink in my mums garden. If there were loads of people and kids I wouldn't though.

tartanbow · 22/05/2020 12:40

yes I would but would make sure I kept the 2m away. I would also make sure I washed my hands regularly. cant personally see how this is a huge risk aslong as you socially distance, keep your hands clean and dont go inside.

Twickerhun · 22/05/2020 12:40

Nope

Allmyfavouritepeople · 22/05/2020 12:40

I wouldn't and I went to see my parents in their garden yesterday. I sat on an old chair far away, took my own glass to pour my own drink in and didn't touch anything of theirs. Sprayed the gate handle before and after I used it.
Was no different to seeing them in a park.

Anything that involves sharing food is risky imo and if you're drinking then inhibitions will drop with each drink. In your circumstances I'd go round for a visit but not a bbq.

evieray · 22/05/2020 12:41

i would like so muuuuch
not this weekend, but the next ))
have a hb party for one of my friends )

C0RA · 22/05/2020 12:42

No.

TimeForLunch · 22/05/2020 12:45

Yes, I would. According to the bbc yesterday, an estimated 0.25% of people in the community currently have the virus suggesting that 99.75% do not. You are very unlikely to come across someone who has it at a small bbq, particularly as anyone who does should be self isolating anyway (and I realise that would only be possible if they were aware they had it, but still). The odds are good and benefit outweighs risk here, assuming you actually want to go.

JustCurious2 · 22/05/2020 12:45

Yes I would.

Mintjulia · 22/05/2020 12:48

Just you and them, yes, as long as it won’t deteriorate into drunken hugging.

More people or predictable silliness, no.

redwoodmazza · 22/05/2020 12:56

No

Bert99 · 22/05/2020 13:00

Yes I would.

Bellabelles · 22/05/2020 13:10

Yes - will be seeing family this weekend and won’t be worrying about distancing. The risk is minute

Khione · 22/05/2020 13:25

Yes

I definitely would

Neighbours had one yesterday - 3 lots of neighbours, good for them.

Neighbours on other side had their parents round for one too.

Good for all of them.
