Springer “ We’ve now got one of our staff refusing to return to work and his mum is posting hysterical nonsense all over our company’s Facebook page.”

This is one of the things I need to file under “I don’t understand the world”. Does he know she posts? I can’t imagine being a 20 something worker and my mum having any public opinion on what I did.

I think a lot of people are seeing this as a once in a lifetime paid holiday and that’s why they’re pushing for extension.

Livin “ Just watching last night's brief.
Can someone explain to me if approx 0 25% of the population (excluding care homes and hospitals etc) currently have covid, your chances of coming into contact with someone with it are fucking minuscule, so why are we still in this situation???”

I don’t know. I don’t watch the briefing any more because it makes no sense.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 22/05/2020 11:52

I always used to watch it every night, but it is a bit pointless. Randomly I do watch it every so often now though I'm not sure why.

KaronAVyrus · 22/05/2020 11:55

I’ve stopped watching all briefings (uk and Scotland) and the news. Feel much better for it.

enjoyingSun · 22/05/2020 11:55

We booked our Cornish holiday before Coronavirus even existed (probably)

We booked Dorset last summer and paid off accomodation before Christmas and are taking a wait and see approach partly as we'd have to go by trian and partly as we not sure where Wales will be in July. If we cancel in next few weeks we'd lose half the money.

DH is talking about maybe going abroad next year - possibly a last minute deal though I've pointed out no idea how brexit will be affecting travel and visas - but otherwise we're all keen.

I'm increasingly thinking it's unlikey the kid will be back here in Wales before September - though really hope DD1 in Y10 is - I'm just not sure come septemeber it will be full time either as the post 16 stuff seem to be expecting disruption of some kind till March 2021.

Younger two, Y6 and Y8 have been asking when they can go back to school I've just said no one knows yet.

I was hoping the English school getting back June would show how it could be done but the reporting I've seen seems to be Welsh minsters being gleeful English schools won't all be back start of June.

countrygirl99 · 22/05/2020 11:58

springer if my horse wasn't old and just coming back from an injury I would be tempted to hoon around the countryside. If you are going to come off, now seems to be a good time to do it. But many on Mumsnet would cat's bum at my attitude to risk - DS1 had his first taste of abseiling at 3 and when the kids were small we had a camping holiday in Zimbabwe, including Hwange.

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 22/05/2020 11:59

@enjoyingSun they are gleeful aren’t they? I can’t watch Kirsty Williams head tilt as she screws over a generation. I’ve written to her but responses are now taking 3 weeks! Please consider doing the same

Dowser · 22/05/2020 11:59

Dolly bag wash..there’s lots of fb action groups
End the lockdown Ireland
Stand together are two I’ve spotted.
I expect there’ll be more
My dd said human rights lawyers are all over this. We need to know who they are , they might need our support or may need ‘ cases’ as evidence.

LilacTree1 · 22/05/2020 12:02

Dowser “ My dd said human rights lawyers are all over this.”

I’ve been looking for them but so far I can only see two.

I think the media are refusing to report most of it though.

Is Wales opening some schools on June 1st?

OP posts:
enjoyingSun · 22/05/2020 12:03

I will Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy - I'm really worried about Y10 school work and while our kids aren't suffering as much as many are - they are starting to show a few signs of strain.

DominaShantotto · 22/05/2020 12:04

Today we have a guy walking through the costa drive thru. He seriously stood in the queue with all the cars to walk through for his turn.

LilacTree1 · 22/05/2020 12:05

Sorry to ask again and sorry if being thick

Is Scotland allowing people to meet with more than one person from another household from Thursday 28th?

Domina “ He seriously stood in the queue with all the cars to walk through for his turn.”

As a non car owner, I can understand that.

Is Wales opening some schools on June 1st?

Wales hasn't given any dates I'm aware of - still hoping Y10 might get back before September as they did indicate Y10 and Y12 and Y6 would be priority in Wales but that was some time ago.

They have given road maps and when they were being questioned on possible dates the reporting I've seen suggests the answers were all about the English June shambles.

DominaShantotto · 22/05/2020 12:07

Derbyshire now not returning to schools on 1st. Possibly 8th but I doubt that one too. Not our Lea but we are right next door and this will put the winds up our head.

SockYarn · 22/05/2020 12:07

Someone in our village got bitten by an adder yesterday, they posted a photo of an empty A&E dept on the village Facebook page.

I phoned the GP at 10am, receptionist said she'd get someone to phone me back. Call back within 30 minutes, GP asked for photos to be emailed. He agreed with my (amateur) diagnosis, agreed that antibiotics were needed, issued the script. Arrived at surgery, spoke to woman over the intercom, prescription posted out through letter box, collected from chemist and first dose into DS within 2 hours of my first call.

That is SO much better than in normal times where you have to schlepp to the GP 2 days after you've made hte first call and they can fit you in, sit in the waiting room for weeks, walk to the chemist, wait for them to process the prescription...

If an upside of this is that GPs do more remote stuff then I'm up for that.

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 22/05/2020 12:08

I think some on MN might have lack of understanding of single and childless and underlying jealousy of their 'freedom' underlying it -perhaps
I think so he's, but freedom is subjective. Many single people are struggling financially as well and they are often forgotten about in the welfare and charity world because this world, often sees single as synonymous with young, carefree and can live with their parents. In reality there are a lot of middle aged single, childless people who live really really shit and lonely lives during lockdown and who have been forgotten by friends who are dealing with their own shit and so feeling depressed.

Lilac tree

A lot things that are coming, I thought would come eventually, but I hoped not in my lifetime. I’m now trying to use cash as much as possible.

Me too. I always carry a lot of cash on me and I’d be gutted at having to use a card. At Poundland where I go for my dried fruit and nuts they use the self serve tills and you can just put your money it.
I love cash. I love the feel of cash. When it’s gone, it’s gone. No nasty bills. I like seeing it in my bag. I can slip the grandkids a tenner each for ice creams when I see them..cards are not the same.
David Icke used to be a fairly regular visitor to one of our healing groups and I hate to say it but what he prophecied years ago, is now happening

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 22/05/2020 12:16

Can someone explain to me if approx 0 25% of the population (excluding care homes and hospitals etc) currently have covid, your chances of coming into contact with someone with it are fucking minuscule, so why are we still in this situation?

Because the govt has done a fucking brilliant job at convincing people that they are going to die if they leave their house (see numerous threads on here for evidence). Because people look at the R value and see it's hovering near 1 in some places and freak out - because they don't realise it's dependent on prevalence of disease as well (or haven't been told - though the magnificent Whitty has said this in a briefing - the media ams govt seem to leave out this very important piece of information).

Orangeblossom78 · 22/05/2020 12:18

There's a thread for positive mental health in the virus section and even on that dementors came on and called people selfish would you believe Hmm on a lovely thread of kind people.

PickAChew · 22/05/2020 12:19

I doubt if anyone will be sunbathing on any beaches up here, today. They'd end up covered in sand. Just getting my breath back and chewing on some grit after a walk with Ds2 that ended up on the shortish side because the wind made it too bloody stressful.

Don't think dh is going to get that fence painted, this weekend.

Orangeblossom78 · 22/05/2020 12:19

Yes on the young healthy person not coming in to work, we have one of those...DH is self employed so keep to get started but the young man who works there are helps also with the project is ignoring any calls and on furlough...I guess the workplace might have to deal with it perhaps

SockYarn · 22/05/2020 12:24

Thousands of people will die if children go back to school full time.

for FUCKS sake.
