Clapping in perpetuum

I’m just wondering... when will the last clap be?

Who will tell us?

Do we just keep clapping at the sky forever?

Is it like being the first one to clap, someone will need to take the hit and be the last one?

I sat it out tonight.

FlamingoAndJohn · 21/05/2020 20:13

There were less people tonight. I only do it to wave at my neighbours.
I think it will stop soon, especially once the schools go back.

Tuemay · 21/05/2020 20:13

I am happy to say I have never clapped and I never will.

GreyGardens88 · 21/05/2020 20:14

Definitely a lot less clapping on our road tonight, one over enthusiastic clapper tried to make up for it though!

I've never clapped

ouch321 · 21/05/2020 20:14

I didn't hear anyone at all apart from one car horn

Daffodil101 · 21/05/2020 20:15

NHS household here. We didn’t clap this week, still quite a bit of noise but it’s got to stop sometime.

IHaveBrilloHair · 21/05/2020 20:16

I do it, but more as a community thing.
Just clapping for a minute or two though, no pots and pans or anything.

ScarfLadysBag · 21/05/2020 20:17

Ours went weirdly batshit tonight after weeks of sedate and civilised clapping for two mins then inside. Someone had a siren(?!) and there are still horns tooting now. DD woke up looking distinctly unimpressed, and she is a heavy sleeper so that shows how loud it is, but has gone back to sleep thankfully.

I didn't mind the clapping and do take part every week, but 20 mins of nonstop car horns going is beginning to grate on me. Just seems like it's been hijacked as a way to be obnoxiously annoying.

Sadie789 · 21/05/2020 20:17

I get alerts from Sky News and BBC to tell me to do it let me know the rest of the UK is still clapping.

I don't clap. My dsis works for the NHS and said the first time it was lovely but now it's just embarrassing. Most of my neighbours that clap are the ones flaunting lockdown anyway.

unappreciativeoh · 21/05/2020 20:18

Hope it’s soon, I hate it.

Can still hear my neighbours out hollering at one another which makes me feel even worse for not taking part.

firstimemamma · 21/05/2020 20:20

Hopefully soon!

JaineyMac · 21/05/2020 20:20

Hope it’s soon, my hands hurt and I had to stop for a wee and then go back. Still going.

FrogFairy · 21/05/2020 20:22

As a one off gesture it was great but weekly is too much.

IMO I would rather see when this is all over that our wards are given adequate staff levels so that they can run the ward correctly and staff are not run ragged unable to eat or go to the toilet as they have been struggling along for years. Plus a decent pay rise. Well, I can dream...

1066vegan · 21/05/2020 20:22

My dp asked what the noise was and then we realised it must be 8 o'clock. The noisy houses at the end of the road were doing their usual pot banging.

We hadn't had fireworks for a couple of weeks but they were back tonight.

ScarfLadysBag · 21/05/2020 20:23

Oh it's a procession of lorries, that explains the noise...

Miriel · 21/05/2020 20:23

I heard clapping and shouting today but not the usual pots, pans, whistles and beeping cars. I think it's going to taper off gradually.

sqirrelfriends · 21/05/2020 20:32

I've stopped going out to clap.

I know there are bigger things to worry about but it fills me with rage to see my neighbours (who are still having people over, and have throughout lockdown) clapping and banging pans. I'm desperate to see family but haven't- because I care about not overwhelming the NHS.

Elieza · 21/05/2020 20:36

I’ll clap until told not to. Or I forget...

HeyBlaby · 21/05/2020 20:38

I think this is it for life now, soon you will be burnt at the stake for not taking part.

Extra points if you can play an instrument (not necessarily in tune) and/or let off fireworks. These people will be the leaders of the community going forwards.

chickedeee · 21/05/2020 20:40

Fireworks and pans here

We watched it on TV Grin

GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 21/05/2020 20:41

I have forgotten it every Thursday since it began. I'm terrible. Blush

Every single week at about this time I see a thread about clapping here and say "Shit".

I'm always getting DS2 settled for bed at 8 O'clock so it whizzes straight out of my head.

LST · 21/05/2020 20:42

Just said on another thread how much it is grating on me now. All the ridiculous fireworks and bangs and beeps really upset my dog. I have clapped for weeks. My DC stand on the step to join in.. (100% not with pans!) but I can't wait for it to be over now

LST · 21/05/2020 20:43

*haven't clapped

GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 21/05/2020 20:44

That's not a veiled "Look how little fucks I give" boast, by the way.

I do actually feel a bit bad about it.
