Would you sell a story for £££

Something weird happened this morning with OH and a A list celeb it’s quite funny and unusual. I wrote to the papers and they have offered us 1k if we give them permission to use our story and the evidence. I think it’s slightly cringe but the money would come in handy right about now!

Would you do it?

It's going to be fun for your DH when the Sellers' Feedback gets posted on this.

Was it really worth a grand?

OneKeyAtATime · 23/05/2020 08:51

Of course you shouldn't. Do you really need to ask?

Ughmaybenot · 23/05/2020 08:54

Ah no. That doesn’t sound very kind. I’m skint at the moment but I wouldn’t like a bit of cash at the cost of someone elses potential embarrassment.

RobinsonXmas · 23/05/2020 09:21

DawnFrench has been lovely as our 'nearby local celebrity' for years. I have seen her deal with demanding fans when she's out walking her dog with great politeness. She can't even go to a local concert without being dragged up to meet the cast, always on show.
If she bought a second hand inflatable flamingo from me, I'd be pleased it went to a good home, and that would be the end of the matter.

LonginesPrime · 23/05/2020 10:30

Disappointing - I thought it was going to be something far more interesting than that!

PerpendicularVincent · 23/05/2020 11:04

No I wouldn't - it may be a funny story to tell friends, but I certainly wouldn't sell this non- event to the papers. Can't people in the public eye have any privacy?

That you emailed straight away trying to make money out of it is odd.

AwrightDoreenTakeAFuckinDayOff · 23/05/2020 11:16

If that was your story I hope it was worth it.

mamaoffourdc · 23/05/2020 11:26

How would your hubby feel when the celeb gets back in contact to give him grief?!? It's an awful thing to do

LochJessMonster · 23/05/2020 11:43

What an awful thing to even consider.

Having absolutely no privacy like that must be awful.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 23/05/2020 12:08

Imagine being afforded so little privacy/ so many people trying to ride your coattails and exploit your fame that you can't even buy fucking sachets of Burger Sauce without someone trying to make money off your back.

hfrdgftcsdg · 23/05/2020 12:12

Will they be embarrassed by it? Lime mega embarrassed? I would if not.

ScarletFever · 23/05/2020 12:15

how would you feel if it was about your mum/dad/someone you care about ? Would it embarrass them? if not, then go for it

Pelleas · 23/05/2020 12:16

The potential embarrassment isn't worth it for £1k.

INeedNewShoes · 23/05/2020 12:17

Ugh no. This wouldn’t even cross my mind!

SpyApp · 23/05/2020 12:19

Cheap and nasty

RedRec · 23/05/2020 12:24

No. No way. Never.

NaomiFromMilkShake · 23/05/2020 12:53

Vile

AngelsWithSilverWings · 23/05/2020 13:40

No that's would be an awful thing to do. It wouldn't even have crossed my mind to contact the press about in order to mKe money out of something like that.

LonginesPrime · 23/05/2020 13:41

OP, did you get paid?

I'm guessing they just published the story anyway?

chrislilleyswig · 23/05/2020 13:42

Sneaky and low life

dayswithaY · 23/05/2020 13:49

So that was it? Beckham buying burger sauce is worth a grand? I thought newspapers were struggling to stay afloat, hardly surprising if this is what they waste money on, a total non-story.

BarefootHippieChick · 23/05/2020 14:03

I'm confused. So your husband was selling burger sauce? That's just as bizarre as David Beckham buying it.

covetingthepreciousthings · 23/05/2020 14:09

I hope OP comes back to confirm whether it was the burger story.

herecomesgeralt · 23/05/2020 14:34

If it is the Beckham one, it's quite sad really. All the comments are stuff like 'Anything to get their mugs in the paper!' But they didn't tell the DM, OP did!

Makes you think about how often people sell stuff like this. I don't think it's right.

ItsSpittingEverybodyIn · 23/05/2020 15:49

Blimey so what it's hardly embarrassing or career ending is it. Good on you op.
