Would you sell a story for £££

Something weird happened this morning with OH and a A list celeb it’s quite funny and unusual. I wrote to the papers and they have offered us 1k if we give them permission to use our story and the evidence. I think it’s slightly cringe but the money would come in handy right about now!

Would you do it?

Would you be ok with someone selling the same story about you?

I don't think I would, no. I think it's kind of shitty to be honest, but then I don't even like people who get selfies off celebs when the celebs are on trains or whatever.

IsntThatYourThirdPlate · 21/05/2020 13:40

I wouldn’t be bothered by it if someone sold it about me it’s nothing hurtful.

It’s not OH business either just some things he’s been flogging.

However it is a bit sneaky isn’t it! But the thought of us being able to relax for a bit and not worry about money is tempting.

Gary Barlow buying take that cds on ebay

MrsGarethSouthgate · 21/05/2020 13:42

Why don't you say what the item is (not the celeb), so we can appreciate whether it is funny or not?

Chewbecca · 21/05/2020 13:43

If you do go ahead (I wouldn’t), try to haggle the price upwards!

PhilCornwall1 · 21/05/2020 13:44

Well then just sell some more shit to make the money, instead of trying to get more at someone else's expense, when what happened between them and your husband should remain private.

PatchworkElmer · 21/05/2020 13:45

I think you’re trying to convince yourself that this is ok? If you need the money, do it.

I personally think that someone should be allowed to make a private purchase without details being shared with the media. I’d be upset if someone shared information like that about me. I appreciate that others may feel that celebrities are ‘fair game’ though.

Alonelonelyloner · 21/05/2020 13:47

Presumably the celeb has plenty of money. You don't. And you need money. It's not a harmful thing you're saying. I say just do it. It'll disappear as a story very quickly but the money will help. Do it!

CoronaIsComing · 21/05/2020 13:48

I’d probably sell a story about myself for the right money if I had one to sell, but not about someone else!

Can’t a famous person nip out to by something privately anymore??

Sparklingbrook · 21/05/2020 13:48

I don’t like the sound of this. Also one person’s A list is another’s Z list.

AwrightDoreenTakeAFuckinDayOff · 21/05/2020 13:49

I wouldn’t.

Cuddling57 · 21/05/2020 13:49

No that's awful. They are just a normal person going about their daily life. Leave them alone.

SunbathingDragon · 21/05/2020 13:49

You clearly want to sell the story as decent people wouldn’t even have written to the papers in the first place. Don’t try and justify your reasons for doing it. It doesn’t make you a better person because they offered you money that you don’t have the integrity or decency to refuse. After all, you only know about the money because you instigated the sale of the tale by telling in the first place.

Just expect others to think of you as someone who is, at best, disloyal or far worse.

LizzieMacQueen · 21/05/2020 13:53

Does this contravene GDPR?

LaurieFairyCake · 21/05/2020 13:59

I wouldn't. I think people are entitled to privacy even if the story is positive/funny.

Tom Cruise gave someone an £80 tip and she told the paper about it and probably made a similar amount. I actually felt sorry for Tom Cruise as other people might seem him as a soft touch for money.

Pinkflipflop85 · 21/05/2020 14:00

Of course it doesn't break GDPR.

😂😂😂

HollowTalk · 21/05/2020 14:05

No, sorry, I'd give them the privacy. If they'd done something really nice then I would as it would show them in a really positive light, but if the whole point is that people would be laughing at them, then no, I wouldn't.

LonginesPrime · 21/05/2020 14:16

It’s nothing bad it’s something they brought off OH but the item itself is quite funny

That sounds cruel - it would be different if they were doing something public and had an expectation that a member of the public might say something, but exposing their private life is pretty low.

If you did do this (and you shouldn't) you should give back the money you got from them for the item. It's not fair to take their money for buying something from you then to profit from ridiculing them for doing so.

Whenever I come across gossip like this, I don't think 'haha, what a silly celebrity' - I think 'wow, what an arsehole for going to the papers'.

cottonwoolbrain · 21/05/2020 14:26

Don't do it OP.

Would you sell your integrity for £1000?.... thought not.

Celebrities are as entitled to a private life as anyone else. Unless you reckon they're planning on using the item as a major prop on their next tour then forget it.

DP and I and my best friend have sat on a celebrity story for years because we know it could hurt them and their children. Its certainly news worthy though though less so than it was when it happened.

borntohula · 21/05/2020 14:27

No way. I would probably mention any encounter with a 'celebrity' to a couple of people I'm close to and then not really give it another thought. Although if someone awful like Donald Trump bought a dildo from me (totally plausible) then I might be tempted.

Patsypie · 21/05/2020 14:38

Just do it! I'm curious to know who and what!

catinb0oots · 21/05/2020 14:42

I had a story sold on me (I'm not a celebrity but the other person in the story was)

It was hideous. One of the worst things that's ever happened to me.

Youngatharte · 21/05/2020 14:44

No I wouldn’t. It’s wrong

Youngatharte · 21/05/2020 14:46

Funny for you or funny for them? If you’re a business owner it could really damage your reputation and integrity
