DH conversing with a pervert via ebay...

Teacher12345 · 20/05/2020 16:49

DH always trades under a female name as he believes people trust women more than men
After listing an item today. He has recieved an email from someone saying he "sounds pretty" and asking for pictures.
DH is bored and enjoys taking the piss so said if he bought the item, he would send one.
The guy has now asked for his email address to send and recieve pictures. It will end here!
Do women ever do this?
I would never message someone saying "Hi Mark, you sound fit, (based on your username alone!) send me a dick pic".
Is it just men with this twisted thought process?

i've never known any women to do it.

AmNot · 20/05/2020 16:57

I wouldn't. But as your DH pretends to be a woman to sell items, he's not in a great position to criticise others for weird/inappropriate behaviour online.

Gncq · 20/05/2020 16:59

Men are so weird

sarahcoffeelover · 20/05/2020 17:00

Men are so weird.

I'm inclined to agree. OPs husband included.
First pretending he's a woman, then going along with bizarre messages

Toilenstripes · 20/05/2020 17:00

Oddly enough I get all kinds on Instagram despite my account being private.

DeeplyMovingExperience · 20/05/2020 17:01

If the item is listed on eBay then the perv can be reported to ebay and will have their account closed. Same re PayPal.

BingPot720 · 20/05/2020 17:01

Surely people trust...trustworthy people ? Not women or men. Is he trying to scam people and get away with it because he's a "woman"? I can't see any reason why people would need to "trust" him as a buyer on eBay, it's not like people routinely block men from buying things, and if they do they're twats and he can find the item he wants somewhere else.
Completely mental.

Aquamarine1029 · 20/05/2020 17:02

Your husband is just as creepy as the eBay perv.

AnotherElle · 20/05/2020 17:03

It sounds like a scam to me trying to get personal info.

Teacher12345 · 20/05/2020 17:08

It may be a bit odd but its not like he is "pretending" to be anything. He uses a female name similar "SashaBanana" - could be anyone. My username "teacher, could also be anyone, do you all assume I am a woman?

I recieved messages on facebook last night to someone I have absolutley no links to. Again, pretty sure a woman wouldn't do that
either, but I haven't responded as I know it will lead to nastyness if I either A) turn him away or B) engage in conversation which ends in my rejecting him.

@Aquamarine1029 DH is taking the piss. Does this often when he gets scam emails etc.

Cosyblanky · 20/05/2020 17:12

Sounds like your DH is bored. Has he tried jigsaw puzzles?

Teacher12345 · 20/05/2020 17:16

@Cosyblanky, he isn't into jigsaws but ive got him on the BBQ now!
He stopped engaging when asked for his email.

magicstar1 · 20/05/2020 17:25

Your DH isn’t being creepy, he’s bored and it’s funny.
It would be creepy if he went along with it and didn’t tell you lol.

KaptenKrusty · 20/05/2020 17:31

I totally lead scammers and creepy guys on - people like this need to get called out tbh - I’d totally have done similar to your husband !

AmNot · 20/05/2020 17:46

He did go along with it...he said 'buy the item and i'll send you a picture'. That is a bit weird to me but different strokes and all that..

Teacher12345 · 20/05/2020 17:55

Yes he went along with it but he hasn't gone on ebay with the intention of pulling.
He is just taking the piss out of someone who is clearly trying to prey on women.

OP posts:
Teacher12345 · 20/05/2020 17:56

And he has actually just bought it!

OP posts:
fuckinghellthisshit · 20/05/2020 17:56

Is he selling shoes?

Teacher12345 · 20/05/2020 18:04

No an iphone.
Literally in no way asking for such a response until he got the first message.
He has paid for the item and messaged DH asking for his email and mobile number, offering marriage Shock
Apparently Sasha sounds like a nice girl Confused

BingPot720 · 20/05/2020 18:09

Well he is pretending to be a woman, the name could be either but you said yourself he trades under a "female" name so that's clearly what it is to you, plus you've said it's because you believe women are more trustworthy - so that's his intention. And if he wasn't pretending to be a woman he'd ignore the messages rather than going along with them.
It's a weird thing to do. Not sure if creepy or not, but definitely weird.
Also weird that you've changed your tune from "he uses a female name to make people think he's a woman and therefore trust him, he's gone along with messages that assume he's a woman" to "it could be a unisex name and he's not pretending to be anything"

Whole thing is just...weird.

Teacher12345 · 20/05/2020 18:16

@Bingpot - he has traded for 15 years under this name that sounds more like a stripper name than an actual female name. He wasn't pretending to be anything at that point. Just uses a female name.
He has gone along with it so is now pretending to be female yes, but only because he got a message form someone saying he "sounded pretty" and asking for pictures.
His responding may be weird, but it isn't creepy.

VettiyaIruken · 20/05/2020 18:21

I hope the iPhone is cash on collection because this has a sniff of scam about it.

VettiyaIruken · 20/05/2020 18:21

I mean the buyer not your husband btw!

vixxo · 20/05/2020 18:26

This made me laugh, thanks OP. Lots of creeps on eBay...
