DH conversing with a pervert via ebay...

DH always trades under a female name as he believes people trust women more than men
After listing an item today. He has recieved an email from someone saying he "sounds pretty" and asking for pictures.
DH is bored and enjoys taking the piss so said if he bought the item, he would send one.
The guy has now asked for his email address to send and recieve pictures. It will end here!
Do women ever do this?
I would never message someone saying "Hi Mark, you sound fit, (based on your username alone!) send me a dick pic".
Is it just men with this twisted thought process?

I know a man named Sasha... misses the point

Teacher12345 · 20/05/2020 18:29

@VettiyaIruken no its to be posted. The guy has already paid though. He could claim it doesn't work and send it back I guess but not sure how else he can scam?

Meh, I love leading scammers and weirdos on. Get them all the time on Facebook and email, In lockdown you’ve gotta get entertainment where you can.

Jezebel101 · 20/05/2020 18:31

It's not creepy to use an a name people would assume belongs to a woman. It's definitely creepy to message someone and tell them they see pretty on the basis of a name though. I had a call from someone with an East Asian accent offering me help with my computer for a small fee, I told them in my best doddery voice to hold on while I find my card in my good handbag and left them on the mantle for an hour. Am I creepy to mess with someone trying to exploit me?

The issue is the creep, not the username. He wasn't pretending to be anything, it's just a username.

Jezebel101 · 20/05/2020 18:33

I've never heard of a case of a woman asking for pics of a man in his Y-fronts. I'm sure it's happened, and obviously women can be pervs too. I just haven't heard of it, but I've heard of and experienced the random dick pics and requests of boob pics etc. from men. They're a diverse lot, those men.

VettiyaIruken · 20/05/2020 18:33

Sorry, I missed the bit where you said he paid.

He could claim it doesn't work and want to send it back then send something else instead and leave you unable to prove anything because he's got proof he mailed something. That happens quite a lot sadly. There's a number of similar scams.
Hopefully it'll be fine and it's just me thinking the worst of someone who's shown themselves to be a scuzzbucket

YappityYapYap · 20/05/2020 18:33

It's not creepy to have a bit of light amusement out of people being stupid. I like to wind people up that phone and say I had a car accident. It usually goes really, I have no memory of it, I must have gotten amnesia from a head injury in the car crash! Then they say well madam, you are in for a big day for such a traumatic head injury!

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 20/05/2020 18:42

We've always traded under DW's username. I was selling a motorbike and I got an offer to end the suction early at half the reserve. Er, no. Then he offered to come round for a chat. Er, no. Then he asked if we might have met at the Vanilla Alternative. Ewwwwww!

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 20/05/2020 18:42

Auction, not suction. Freudian autocorrect.

oohnicevase · 20/05/2020 18:44

I got chatted up on eBay once when selling something .. some real weirdos out there !!

katmarie · 20/05/2020 18:51

I listed some high heels on DH's Ebay account for sale a few months ago, and one potential buyer messaged asking for pictures of them being worn. Dh emailed back asking why the buyer wanted pictures of DH wearing his wife's shoes, because surely he wasnt trying to get pictures of his wife's feet to perve over? Buyer responded full of bluster, and 'innocent' excuses. And didn't buy the shoes sadly.

Windyatthebeach · 20/05/2020 18:55

I would message back that Sasha is a very naughty girl actually.
She has handcuffs and a weapon..
And she is a copper!!

.

Bluntness100 · 20/05/2020 19:03

Surprised at all the pear clutching. I can see why female may sound more trustworthy than Male on eBay, I don’t think it’s creepy. Sad that that’s the case, but I can see it.

As for your husband responding, in his shoes I’d be tempted to do the same. Sadly the only opportunity I get is the scammers pretending there is something wrong with your computer etc. But I do quite enjoy winding those guys up...

I’d have no hesitation in doing it to some random perv. Tell your husband to crack on.

Teacher12345 · 20/05/2020 19:04

@Windyatthebeach
DH has said if he tries to return the item, he will give the address as
Sasha
XX police station
Sexual crimes unit Grin

Sacha is the male version of Sasha, as in Aubrey/Audrey etc.

Sacha Baron Cohen for eg.

Lostvoiced · 20/05/2020 19:09

I don't think OPs husband is that weird. Different bits of the internet treat you differently based on if they perceive you to be a man or a woman. I gamed for about 4 years under the name 'Pete' to avoid harassment and weirdos. Is that weird? Maybe I'm weird.

But yeah, male weirdos will weird wherever they can. I used to play online poker (the free kind, just for fun) and all it took was a female avatar for the weird comments to start rolling in.

onesmalldog · 20/05/2020 19:10

pear clutching

???

fruity! lol!

ILikeSardines · 20/05/2020 19:16

Loads of women and girls used to, and probably still do, use a male of neutral name in gaming and the net to avoid what happens when they use a female name. That's not creepy. I can see why your DH does it, whether it's true women are trusted more on eBay I'm not sure.

What your DH did was funny and good to teach the perve a lesson.

And no I'm willing to bet the number of women who ask for pics from random eBay vendors is low.

CockCarousel · 20/05/2020 19:24

I got an offer to end the suction early at half the reserve

Don't sell yourself short!

borntohula · 20/05/2020 21:33

Men on the internet ARE weird, I've had strangers make conversation (normal AND 'pervy') via facebook and I can't imagine what would possess me to send a message to a random guy about anything!

Sadie789 · 20/05/2020 21:37

Well now I’m a bit miffed that after 16 years on eBay with a female name and picture I’ve never been chatted up on eBay!

underneaththeash · 20/05/2020 22:06

Set up a new email account and say he'll send a pussy picture - and then send a picture of a cat!

MayDayFightsBack · 20/05/2020 22:12

I've never had anything like this but I did make a good friend through Ebay when she messaged me asking about an item I had for sale. She didn't actually buy the item but we started talking and it turned out she lived fairly nearby. It was five years ago now and I'm so glad we 'met' on Ebay.
