What Do You Like About Your House?

We downsized a few years ago & although I miss the space, our current house feels so much more like home. DH & I should never have bought our previous property. We didn’t have DD then so there was no way we needed a 4 bedroom house with a big lounge, separate dining room & no less than 3 loos! Now we’re in a 3 bedroom house with one loo! I particularly like the cottagey feel, even though it’s a modern property. I love the kitchen/diner as it has French doors leading out to the garden. And putting the actual place aside, I love the fact that gangs of kids aren’t calling for DD all the time & sometimes tramping through the house & garden. We’re in a very small Close now, although our house is one of two on the main road ( not very busy). The back garden is enclosed & quite spacious. Wish we had flowers & a veg patch etc but our rabbits take up most of the room. DD is going to have a den in the summerhouse & I love that too. DH has painted it & we need to buy a 2nd chair, cube storage & bunting.

The fact it is detached and the garden is massive!

Shame it's on quite a busy road though!

alphabetspagetti · 19/05/2020 16:20

Our neighbours. They're all lovely.
The layout - unless we're all working from home when the largely open plan downstairs is a bit of a nightmare

weepingwillow22 · 19/05/2020 16:22

The location. Gorgeous views over distant hills to the front and woodland to the rear and 1 side. Only 1 neighbour the other side who is lovely.

I like my house because it's mine (nearly) we only have five years left to pay off the mortgage. I have lived here for nearly 30 years and I know every inch of her. She has protected me and my two daughters and the odd waif and stray. She now protects my husband and myself as we are getting older.
We live within a short walk of everything we need. And if we need to go further we are within walking distance of a major train station and five mins drive from a major motorway.
The house is a Victorian semi with the original features.i bought it off two old ladies who had been born in the house.their parents were the original owners so we are only the second true owners really. We have done everything to her and now we are starting again as now she is 125 years old things are shrivelling up and starting to drop off. Like her owners.
She has a lovely garden and we are within walking distance of our allotment. It's a quiet street and most have lived here for many years too.
I have spent the lockdown redecorating her and I have fallen in love with the old girl again.

I'm loving our medium sized garden at the moment. Keeps the kids busy and safe. A lot of their schoolfriends are in tiny Victorian terrace type houses.
Love the southern aspect which means we get lovely lighting in the right rooms at the right time.
We can hear our neighbours but not see them because houses aren't densely packed together.

gingysmummy · 19/05/2020 16:30

I like my house as it in a rural setting but close to major towns and cities. I love the rural feel . The neighbours are lovely a great wee school and a great community feel. I love the garden and how it's not overlooked by anyone

JaneJeffer · 19/05/2020 16:31

The view and the fireplace. I'm sick to death of everything else and would gladly rip the lot out with my bare hands.

PorpentiaScamander · 19/05/2020 16:33

Nothing Grin

If I had to think of something... due to clever extensions its bigger than a lot of terraced houses. And i can actually afford the rent so I guess that's a positive Grin
I love the local community too.

TeddyIsaHe · 19/05/2020 16:34

Nothing at the moment as I started renovating it in January and it’s half finished Confused I do like the location, 5 minute walk into the city center but not on a busy road.

But! When it’s done I’ll love my garden which is huge for a terrace, and my kitchen. I’m most excited about the wine fridge.

ParkheadParadise · 19/05/2020 16:36

I love that dh designed our house. We built it when we got married. I went from living in a 2bed flat to living in a 5 bed detached property.
I got to use the interior designer company dh has for his business (house builder) to furnish their showhomes to furnish the house. My favourite room is our bedroom overlooking the garden at the back and the kitchen.

didmyhousethismornin · 19/05/2020 16:39

How bright and airy it is. I also love that it’s mine, after years of living with DM after the breakdown of my relationship it’s so lovely to have my own space

evieray · 19/05/2020 16:39

like the small size of my flat - sometimes sun shines so brightly the rooms becomes pleasantly orange and comforting for the eyes.

Rubychard · 19/05/2020 16:41

The garden (although I wish it was bigger)
Proximity to the sea (close)
Neighbours (all good)

Lockdownlife · 19/05/2020 16:42

I love my views the most. I look right out onto protected green space and there are deer wandering about early in the morning.

There are also lots of walking routes as it's on the very edge of the town but close enough to shops.

I love that my living room is so bright with daylight. It's also super cosy in winter. I like the open plan kitchen living room.

The only thing I'd change is to have a little more built in storage. One more cupboard would be perfect (without taking away from living space).

Bloodybridget · 19/05/2020 16:45

Lovely big windows, some nice period features, many good neighbours. And especially the extra bathroom we put in last year.

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 19/05/2020 16:46

The insulation, the sea from the end of the road, the neighbours, the beautiful countryside, the sound of trains.

flowersandpetals123 · 19/05/2020 16:48

The original Minton floor we discovered on the day we moved in 😍
Oh and the parquet
All covered by carpets

AnnaNimmity · 19/05/2020 16:49

I mostly love the fact It's mine - I created it after my divorce - and I've created a lovely, safe, fun, family home for me and my children. I love seeing my family scattered around the house and living their lives

other than that, I have a grown up sitting room, that I love. I can work in it, watch tv, and do yoga in. It's my space.

BettyUnderswoob · 19/05/2020 16:51

Lovely location, fab views all round, lots of glass, quirky layout, big house and garden so lots of space, nice neighbours, friendly village, good schools.
If I won the lottery I'd stay here (but maybe do a few renovations!)

Windyatthebeach · 19/05/2020 16:51

Our rental is very old, draughty and full of spiders! Bills are ridiculous!
I love it because it has space for all my dc!
Especially at this time!
And we are directly opposite the beach!!

CuriousaboutSamphire · 19/05/2020 16:55

It's mine.

The walls are thick, windows small... even with the temperature outside being 22+ I'm quite cool.

It's on the edge of a small market town. Shops to the left of me, fields and footpaths to the right.

Courtyard garden.

It's really old.

Westfacing · 19/05/2020 16:57

I love the location!

It's a small mortgage-free, garden flat (following divorce) on the Thames in the middle of London.

And today bathed in sunshine 🌞

AgeLikeWine · 19/05/2020 16:57

Location, location, location.

It’s a fairly ordinary 3 bed house, but it’s located in beautiful countryside on the edge of one of the nicest villages in Leicestershire. There are open fields at the front and back of the house, with views of the reservoir in the distance. We could have opted for a much larger house on a bog-standard suburban estate, but we love living here.

Almostfifty · 19/05/2020 16:59

The light, the space, the view, the fact it's detached.

ilovebagpuss · 19/05/2020 17:04

Love the light one massive long window in the lounge a bugger to sort curtains but it’s so light.
Nice big front garden and medium back garden detached so feels private but on a quiet old estate.
Lovely views one window sold the house to us when we were renting it I just fell in love.
It’s been a lot of hard work but I do love it. Just done 2 beds in the loft space so it’s continued to give us growing room.
