Just that really! I am trying to declutter my house, and re-organise things.
What do you keep in this cupboard? It opens at an awkward angle, so trying to be clever about I put in there. Looking for ideas/hacks!
Thanks

Cereal bottom shelf of it and my daughter’s various medicines on the high shelves

DDemelza · 19/05/2020 21:39

Scales, mixing bowl and eggbeater. I hardly ever bake.

dementedma · 19/05/2020 21:42

How do you all have cupboards over the fridge? Dont you have a fridge freezer?

joannaplumley · 19/05/2020 21:50

On top of my fridge are jars of unopened sauerkraut, sports bottles, boxes of cat food and beer cans that need the labels peeling off to go on the garage beer can label wall.

whojamaflip · 19/05/2020 21:53

No cupboard above my fridge but I do have a wire basket which holds crisps and 3 large containers of flour which won't fit in the pantry cupboard.

mrsbyers · 19/05/2020 21:55

Woks !

BuddhaAtSea · 19/05/2020 21:58

@dementedma integrated appliances 🤷🏻‍♀️ Yes, a fridge freezer, one tall cupboard, 3 doors.

Soph88888 · 19/05/2020 21:59

That’s the cupboard I let my husband keep his kitchen stuff in, like the iron his mum gave us and his bobble remover. Bless him

BrandyandBabycham · 19/05/2020 22:07

I have one of those big American style fridges so no cupboard above it. Ontop of it are kitchenrolls, packets of cereal & the iron. That’s one thing I dislike about our kitchen - not enough storage space so there’s stuff on every available surface & it looks really cluttered.

Thanks everyone!! Seems we are all quite similar! I have cook books currently up there (rarely used though!) Blush
But it's hard to get them in etc due to the angle! Tin foil etc might work though!

Good dinner set, matching serving bowls etc that I only use occasionally. Wedding china.

A bit off topic, but what's the difference between an American style fridge and the fridges more commonly bought in the UK?

We have ordered a new fridge as the old one is no longer keeping temperature consistently in the freezer compartment and we wanted a bigger one anyway. I wish we didn't need to do it during lockdown, but that's life. We had to have the water heater replaced a few weeks ago too.

NameChange84 · 21/05/2020 14:21

@MissConductUS

Well ours is huge, a full fridge and a full freezer, they open in a different direction to the UK ones, it’s got a filtered water and ice machine and a special section that opens out just for the fridge. It’s great. Really good for setting and adjusting temperature, it’s got holiday mode and cleaning mode etc. It’s a Samsung and has lasted us for 9 years so far.

NameChange84 · 21/05/2020 14:25

@MissConductUS

I’ve just realised you might not be in the UK Blush.

So this plus a separate Freezer was our old style

And this is an American Style one similar to
ours (but there are other great and cheaper alternatives)

@NameChange84 - I'm in New York, one of those sneaky Yanks on MN. Grin

The second fridge you linked to is called a "side by side" or French style here. More common is having the freezer compartment on top of the fridge section. The freezer compartments in the side by side units tend to be too narrow to easily hold items like a large frozen pizza or a 15 pound turkey.

We've ordered this LG with the freezer on top. The Samsung units are highly rated here too. Our older one was the same style Whirlpool but about 3 cubic feet smaller. I can't wait to have the extra room. Smile

NameChange84 · 21/05/2020 15:28

@MissConductUS this is all so funny! So what we call a US Fridge Freezer you call a French one and the Fridge Freezer you’ve linked is what many UK people own!

We got a (so called!) American Style one after spending a lot of time living between here and the US and this was the style we became used to as it was popular in the homes we stayed in in California and the South.

I’m getting an Education in fridges now haha!

MissConductUS · 21/05/2020 16:31

It turns out I was a bit off in my refrigerator terminology. The French door styles have two side by side doors for the refrigerator compartment and then a freezer compartment underneath.

The French door reference is no doubt due to the similarity to the tall, narrow French doors many houses have that open out onto a patio or deck, at least here in the US.

I keep the first aid kit and lunchboxes x

GreyishDays · 21/05/2020 16:57

For those who can’t picture it, this is a UK cupboard above what we call an American fridge freezer!

Thanks @GreyishDays Smile
