Can I have a smear test

I'm 8 months overdue a smear test, my doctors phone has been permanently engaged.
I've got other issues with my lady area that I'm worried out.

Can I get a smear test done during this coronovivous time?

I had my smear six weeks before lockdown. I was also almost a year overdue because I was pregnant. There will be women who could not have had a smear on time.

dappledsunshine · 18/05/2020 16:14

It depends on whether the lab in your area is still accepting samples, ours are so smears are carrying on as normal.

Keep trying your GP practice, they will be able to tell you.

KingOfDogShite · 18/05/2020 16:18

My gynaecologist told me the lab isn’t doing the tests so insisting to your drs surgery will be a complete waste of time. I’m overdue too after years of issues - it’s a complete scandal that they’ve stopped doing these lifesaving tests and as PP mentioned, women will no doubt die because of it.

If you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all. 🙈

Says the posted who called people disgusting and said they should be ashamed of themselves.

crybaby11 · 18/05/2020 17:27

So you moan that you've had a lot on in those 8 months thats why you're overdue, but when theres a pandemic you're moaning at that you cannot have a smear done? The NHS have a lot on right now you clown so it's exactly the same situation. Stop thinking about yourself you selfish person 😂

SunshineDays2019 · 18/05/2020 17:31

Wow there are some bitchy comments on here, there is really no need. It's awful. Sorry you are dealing with these comments OP, on top of your concerns. If you can't get through on the phone, I suggest you email your surgery. Best wishes.

WhoCaresAnyway95 · 18/05/2020 17:34

Do you know what makes me laugh the most, the GP telephone automated part clearly states if you have symptoms of covid19 stay home!! So what are all the doctors and nurses sat in the surgery actually doing?
Smear tests are a vital part of being a woman and if they've been delaying them since the start of this imagine what the back log is actually going to be like when they eventually allow women to have them Angry

avroroad · 18/05/2020 17:35

So what are all the doctors and nurses sat in the surgery actually doing?

Working. The same as they always did. FFS. You make it sound as if they are drinking tea and working their way through the leftover Christmas Quality Street Hmm

crybaby11 · 18/05/2020 17:42

@WhoCaresAnyway95 probably inundated with phone calls from idiots who think they're more important than everyone else whinging about everything.

You're the typical Thursday night clapper 'oi oi big up the NHS' then yapping at them the next day that you have run out of your paracetamols 😂

daisypond · 18/05/2020 17:45

All cancelled at my GP surgery. No knowledge when they will start again.

WhoCaresAnyway95 · 18/05/2020 17:51

Working but they're not seeing patients for something as important as a smear test? Don't start me my mom died of cervical cancer it is a real life thing that affects real life people! Pushing back appointments when people have abnormal cells is not right.

Riv12345 · 18/05/2020 17:54

Hi OP

Please dnt leave it.

I would ring your GP first thing in the morning, and ask for a Doctor to ring you back.
Just explain everything, I'm sure it will be sorted, plus this will put your mind at rest.
Plus dnt take any notice of the unkind messages on here.
Definitely ring tomorrow morning.
All the best xx

crybaby11 · 18/05/2020 17:56

They stopped giving people chemo at the hospital.. so if i had a choice to delay chemo or a smear i think there would be a clear winner.

highmarkingsnowmobile · 18/05/2020 18:00

I can't believe people are going without cancer screening and cancer treatment because of this when it kills well over 100k people a year in the UK, is the leading cause of death in the UK overall and the UK has one of the piss-poor records of survival in Europe. Fucking unbelievable.

Wonder what the death stats will look like next year and a year after this. But it's not bloody C19 so it's okay. Hmm

avroroad · 18/05/2020 18:09

It's not through choice. Lots of laboratories are NOT testing samples. What exactly do you expect the GP surgery to do Confused

Patch23042 · 18/05/2020 18:17

Make an appointment to discuss the general gynae issues you’re experiencing, and raise the issue of smears at the same time OP. Try not to worry.

RyanBergarasTeeth · 18/05/2020 18:25

Some of these responses are foul. Do y'all get paid for who can be the biggest cunt?

Op phone your dr and explain your concerns they are the best people to know what to do. Like hell some of these fuckers have never delayed a smear or another thing then needed one later down the line and gone for it. Thats normal life. No one expected a pandemic to happen like this. And yes many people and namely women will die as a result of screening stopped.

Crybaby11 · 18/05/2020 18:30

@RyanBergarasTeeth Actually 😂😂😂 my annual smear has been delayed because i'm having a baby so not only should i have had it in March and couldn't, i now have to wait until around November before booking in again, but i don't need to make a deal of it. So take your 'cunt' comments somewhere else 👍🏻

avroroad · 18/05/2020 18:32

Yep. I am one of those fuckers. I didn't have the audacity to have a rant on Mumsnet and suggest I might die now because, as you quite rightly said, we are in the middle of a pandemic.

avroroad · 18/05/2020 18:33

Nobody is being a cunt here. Calm down.

Oldraver · 18/05/2020 19:09

I had a letter last week saying I was overdue and to book an appointment

cptartapp · 18/05/2020 19:26

Practice nurse here.
Still doing twelve monthly smears and those due after colposcopy treatment. Routine three or five yearly ones are being postponed for six months. North west. Other areas may be different.
And we're still plenty busy. Hundreds of telephone consultations, essential blood monitoring, vaccinations, ongoing injections for cancer, assisting in potential Covid patients being assessed etc etc.

rossKemp · 18/05/2020 19:35

Hi OP, your best shot is probably to pay to go privately. Good luck OP Flowers

MerryDeath · 18/05/2020 19:44

i can't. I'm 6 months overdue due to being pregnant having had a borderline biopsy 18mo ago Confused
