Happy childhood holiday memories at Hampsterly Forest 😊
Maybe more than slightly out of range for me this year..

I like it when someone name drops a familiar place, and stirs up memories of life beyond my county.

Actually I haven't left my county in two months. We normally do at least weekly for swimming lessons, as it's worth a few more minutes driving to the next city than the dilapidated dump of a pool in town. I haven't ventured out so little for so long since the aftermath of DS2's birth. Even after DS1's I was ferried up to North Yorkshire when he was about 6 weeks although I was SPDed/ snowed in for weeks before the birth.

LilacTree1 · 17/05/2020 23:14

Dowser I’m guessing you have a car?

So many places must be nice and quiet now.

Dowser · 17/05/2020 23:16

Bog roll..definitely gods country

Had to have sharp words with my grandson tonight
He hadn’t left the house for three days
He lives next door to a country park ffs

Dowser · 17/05/2020 23:17

Oh yes and I use it lol
The roads are fab
Loving the quietness of them
Been passed by loads of police cars but they’ve never bothered me
Just after lockdown , I drove to durham to go to the farm shop and passed 12 police cars in the one day
I must look more trouble than I’m worth

ilovecardigans · 17/05/2020 23:18

Oh jeez-oh - latest pish on the 'local' Coronavirus FB forum is that the new govt slogan shouldn't have been 'stay alert' it should have been 'stay local'. Yes of course it should, because that's ever so much more precise.

I'm rolling my eyes so much I can practically see the back of my head.

justasking111 · 17/05/2020 23:19

What is sad is that people who are seriously ill in hospital cannot be visited by loved ones, Kate Garraway is face timing her husband, how she must want to be there. It just seems barbaric.

Willitneverend · 17/05/2020 23:21

I am going to see my parents this week , I have a box full of food suitable for my DF, he has a food allergy.

Do we think NS will make picnics legal?

ilovecardigans · 17/05/2020 23:21

Come to Lindisfarne @Dowser! It's so beautiful and you might catch a glimpse of the Orcas.

Bamburgh beach nearby is also fabulous - many a movie scene shot there. Sadly castle is currently shut, but I'm pretty sure the ice cream vans will be out & about.

Dowser · 17/05/2020 23:21

It really does just asking
Michael Rosen is still pretty poorly as well
At least of loved ones are at home , you can pop into see them but in hospital or care homes you have no chance

Mascotte · 17/05/2020 23:24

@LilacTree1 right, don't eye roll, but could you get a bike?

OP posts:
Dowser · 17/05/2020 23:24

It’s about 2.5 hours from us..very tempted
I might just if we get a nice day.
Was there three years ago
Never saw any orcas..but we did dowse lindisfarne priory with our group
Most of them are more into earth energy, I’m more into healing energy

ilovecardigans · 17/05/2020 23:25

Just checked forecast for tomorrow and it's dry, overcast and warm-ish (15-16C).

LilacTree1 · 17/05/2020 23:28

Well this made me laugh

Excellent summary of affairs right now

ilovecardigans · 17/05/2020 23:28

That's so interesting, @Dowser. There's a rumour that building work on the field that backs onto our estate has been suspended because they've discovered a Roman road! No idea whether it's true, but I'm very excited if it is.

ilovecardigans · 17/05/2020 23:33

@LilacTree1 - that's brilliant, thank you. Going to check out the other videos on his Twitter feed.

LilacTree1 · 17/05/2020 23:33

Mascotte

No, I never learned- yes my childhood was a bit odd - and after a spinal injury a few years back, I’m not inclined to learn.

I don’t object to getting on public transport. But I think if a police officer stopped me in the London to York train, I’d need a good excuse? Public transport rules are unclear.

I do know govt want TFL to remove the “ essential journeys only” message but I think that’s by next week. I don’t know what the view is on national transport.

fartingsparkles · 17/05/2020 23:36

Hello all you lovely lot! Great to see we keep being joined by anti dementor newcomers.

I am still feeling positive (mostly). Took the dcs for a drive today. Not only did we manage to expand on the previous 1 mile radius we seem to stuck to (ie supermarket distance), the car got to go to 60mph!! It was heady, i tell you! We drove along the coast a bit, and even had choc ices. They were from a shop.rather than a van, does that lessen the murderous quality I wonder?

Dowser · 17/05/2020 23:44

I’d have joined sooner , but I don’t think I’d understood the title.
Moseyed into it tonight.and thought..bloody hell..I’ve found my tribe.
Wow cardigans..how fabulous
We’ve definitely had a Roman camp where I live
Be careful who you tell
The dowsers will be round like flies round a honeypot lol
Well I’m off to bed
A nasty toothache has been bothering me these last few days.
So I’m hoping for a good nights sleep tonight
Good night tribe, happy wanderings

Khione · 17/05/2020 23:45

I'm upset that I haven't had more real reasons to break 'the rules'. I am so not a rule follower but I do want to follow the principles of 'staying safe and protecting others'.

My adult son has been using a room in my house as an office for the whole of lockdown. Going to work, wasn't an option and he couldn't work from home due to lack of bandwidth.

I live 5 minutes from him so he has used my spare bedroom and ensuite since then. So technically breaking rules but meh!.

Other than that: I am retired. I have a garden and I can go out to shop and to exercise.

I have not been able to really justify breaking the rules and it pisses me off. However, this week I am going to visit my daughter - who has only been out to shop since lockdown and to sit in the garden with friends ditto - go me.

I am so sorry for everyone whose life has been so disrupted, particularly the youngsters. I was at school in the early 60s when there was a polio outbreak locally. One of my brothers had it, luckily mildly. We were scared but we still went to school and this was a virus which more specifically targeted kids.

I now remember being a bit scared at the time but I haven't even thought about it for 50+ years until now. I bet kids today won't say that as adults. Remember parents and teachers, your kids are not going to forget this; please make sure you don't 'over' protect them.

Willitneverend · 17/05/2020 23:46

There's a Twitter account called @ropoem that has a video of Glaswegian lockdown protest. The protestors start shouting "'mon the immune systems".

Not that I'm condoning lockdown protests but it gave me a good laugh. Maybe that could be part of the new government slogan.

DominaShantotto · 17/05/2020 23:47

Can’t sleep again as usual. My mental health is shot from worrying about the kids’ mental health.

LilacTree1 · 17/05/2020 23:51

Re previous pandemics

Mum only knew about Hong Kong flu because of dad being HCP

She is fairly sure he didn’t have full on PPE - just a fabric face mask and gloves.

She said she doesn’t remember any disruption to work or the Tube and she does remember the neighbours hearing about it from dad and just saying “oh dear”.

FrangipaniBlue · 18/05/2020 00:00

Evening!

I have been swimming today, in an actual Lake, with a friend!!

It was BLISS and just what I needed - the anti-swim dementors can fuck off Grin

ilovecardigans · 18/05/2020 00:02

mon the immune systems oh that has creased me!

@DominaShantotto oh dear, that's not good. I wish I had something wise and useful to offer, to ease your mind.

@Khione I had measles when I was about 2 or 3 (I can't remember exactly it was so long ago) before the vaccine was developed. I was so, so ill and mum was up to 90 with worry. There's a photo of me shortly after I recovered and I look like one of those whey faced skinny urchins from a Dickensian novel.

Willitneverend · 18/05/2020 00:10

@DominaShantotto I really struggle with this too. I try to go running but it's hard to motivate myself sometimes. I end up staying up far too late to try and store myself out or have some wine, which I know isn't great. I've read a couple of really good books but like the running, it's sometimes difficult to focus on books.
