TheGreatWave - the last time we were at the beach I was presented with "sea glass" that was actually just glass Shock

MaxNormal · 17/05/2020 22:10

@LilacTree1 I'm soooo sorry! I've read so much negative crap that I swear it's imprinted on my eyeballs.

I think it's not a real exercise class, it was literally just a group of lads hanging about till they spotted the copper. They're just cheeky buggers really but I liked how it was good natured.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 17/05/2020 22:11

I think the logic is that if people meet socially with family and friends they will forget to socially distance but in the formal setting of a class it’s safer. Like how your mum can’t come round but your cleaner can, but not many people hug their cleaners.

Duckyneedsaclean · 17/05/2020 22:12

@Nihiloxica me too. The number on here saying "I don't want your horrible kids just because you're too lazy to parent" is incredible.

Hello all, I'm delurking as apparently most people I know are conspiracy theorising catastrophists. My brother is going to come over for a drink in the garden this week. Looking forward to it, even though he'll have to (shock horror) walk through the house.

Duckyneedsaclean · 17/05/2020 22:14

@funmummy48 gah sorry, cross posted with you. I don't mean to sound teacher bashing at all, and my children's schools are incredible Flowers

Have just had that actual line from my sister though so feeling delicate!

rookiemere · 17/05/2020 22:15

I'm so jealous of you English people boasting about your slightly different surroundings. I'm in Scotland and whilst we're bloody lucky to live near some lovely walks, the whole thing has turned into Groundhog day.
I've broken the Scottish rules and met two friends ( not together) outside over the course of the weekend. Middle aged ladies breaking the law - luckily my friend pointed out that we had our cardigans of invisibility on, so were unseeable for most of the population.

Discovered that dog groomers are in operation so DH took rookiedog for a much needed trim. Tempted to pretend I was of the canine variety myself if it could get my hair thinned. My boss says there are blackmarket hairdressers in operation, but not found one yet. We had new bathroom flooring fitted last week.

It appears that Scotland is lifting itself quietly and stealthily out of lockdown, regardless of the rules.

PickAChew · 17/05/2020 22:16

Bloody hell, I spend the day catching up on all the domestic drudgery I can't manage during the week when I'm constantly keeping Ds2 out of dh's hair and you've all moved on! Dementor free day but my tumble dryer has been a monumental arsehole. 3.5 years old and I've worn it out.

Hello Ninja
It felt almost normal yesterday..except the market was only 4 stalls.
Everyone finishing early, which is a bummer for me as I like to go late
( I got half price bendicks mints in lewis and coopers)
I give an inward cheer when I see teenagers meeting in the park..and in Northallerton they can tick themselves right over at the back
I think I saw the zip wire in use at one point.
When we were at Herrington park the other week , I saw three teenage lads on their bikes, alright lads , I said, nice to be out isn’t it..yeah they said and gave me a cheeky grin.
Our best days had to be heading for saltburn and ending up in Whitby a couple of weeks ago, via stair he’s which was just beautiful
But I think this takes the prize a lovely walk around the wooded area outside of durham city. Bluebell woods. Cows, sheep, horses in the fields.
Friendly natives willing to chat and the intoxicating smell of an Indian curry house.
Well we weren’t going to resist that, were we
Lovely gluten and dairy free chicken korma and lamb hogan josh and keema rice...eaten outside in beautiful surroundings .
Our first proper meal out...and it won’t be the last that’s for sure.

The nearest thing to normal since we left tenerife in March

Marvellous, another thread categorising all teachers as selfish, uncaring and hysterical.

There are around 600,000 teachers in the U.K. Funnily enough, they are going to have a wide range of opinions just like the rest of the population.

Dowser · 17/05/2020 22:17

Staithes. Stupid autocorrect

LilacTree1 · 17/05/2020 22:18

Max don’t worry at all.

But someone on this thread, I think, said her outdoor group exercise is allowed to open now. It’s an absolute nonsense and I don’t know how any of the dementors can find grounds to defend it.

I’m beginning to think most of the dementors are just trolling.

SomewhereEast · 17/05/2020 22:18

Loving all my fellow Yorkshire residents getting excited about Boyes! My youngest calls it 'the everything shop'.

LilacTree1 · 17/05/2020 22:19
  • to be clear

The lockdown rules are a nonsense, I’m not criticising outdoor businesses for opening!

thenightsky · 17/05/2020 22:19

What??? Boyes is opening???

Dowser · 17/05/2020 22:20

Today’s run out was just to the harbour to watch the tankers at anchor offshore
Loads out though
Especially when I drove to the beach about 6-30.. never seen it so busy

Dowser · 17/05/2020 22:21

Yep, Northallerton..not sure of the others
Do ring first
I got 4 giant tubes of toothpaste
If there’s a second wave
I’m going with sparkly teeth

funmummy48 · 17/05/2020 22:21

@Duckyneedsaclean that's ok, I'm just feeling a bit fed up of hearing that teachers are too scared to go back in the class and are fighting to keep schools closed when it's not true at all. We're all being tarred with the same brush and it's demoralising. We've been busy teaching and marking online and staying in daily contact with our parents and children. I know that not all schools have but some of us have continued to work hard and haven't enjoyed being stuck at home.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 17/05/2020 22:22

Checking in.

Went for a walk on the hills yesterday evening - which we drove to - and blew the cobwebs away. So much space, so easy to social distance.

Of course the local council have the "stay away from our hills, you're not welcome" bunting out...

SomewhereEast · 17/05/2020 22:22

Also has anyone else spotted the report that the Gov is looking at copying a Lithuanian plan to temporarily pedestrianise streets & relax planning laws so cafes & restaurants can spread out into the open air? It actually sounds rather nice.

ilovecardigans · 17/05/2020 22:23

cardigans of invisibility - I love it!

@rookiemere I haven't had a haircut since the end of January. I had an appointment booked for 21st March which obviously bit the dust, so I am now starting to resemble Neil off The Young Ones...

Vegetable rights and peace!

TheGreatWave · 17/05/2020 22:24

We get Boyes even more North of Yorkshire. There is currently a thread about moving up North - well we have Boyes and Cooplands -what more could one possibly want?

LilacTree1 · 17/05/2020 22:26

“ It actually sounds rather nice.”

Sorry to dement but it sounds grim. I really hope they don’t do it on the main roads in my outer burb because the buses will be in one lane of traffic and be even worse.

Hopefully they can’t as it would cause problems for wheelchair users.

TheAdventuresoftheWishingChair · 17/05/2020 22:26

I'm just feeling a bit fed up of hearing that teachers are too scared to go back in the class and are fighting to keep schools closed when it's not true at all.

I can imagine it's infuriating at the moment. I don't think we've been teacher bashing - there have been other lovely teachers on here who are also preparing to go back and parents whose children's schools are being sensible. We've been taking issue with the unions and the teachers who are refusing to go back and unfortunately, let's be honest, there are a fair few who are kicking up a fuss. But it's really not black and white here so please don't think we don't know lots of teachers aren't wonderful and looking forward to getting back to work (I'm not a parent so no skin in the game! Just horrified by those not looking at the science and spreading fear and hampering everyone else's efforts to get back to normal and protect vulnerable children)

TheGreatWave · 17/05/2020 22:26

Nihi - I think it was just glass that my 8 year old presented with me today - she just slipped it into my bag when I seemed unkeen to take it from her.
