I avoided almost everywhere for the first 3 weeks for fear of being publicly shamed on FB, or harassed by someone or something. The atmosphere was that toxic. I took DD2 to the GPs right near the start of lockdown (she started to lose the vision temporarily - her anxiety headaches were that bad) and the cow down the street was practically spitting with rage at us. I was taking a child, who had been triaged and needed to be physically seen, for a medical appointment.

justasking111 · 18/05/2020 12:16

We have a lovely long for miles beach a bit of a climb down and up. But worth it. You only saw humans with dogs it was not a touristy beach. Our council locked every way onto it up with posts, signs, chains. I thought that was awful. Meanwhile our touristy promenade is impossible to make inaccessible but they banned dogs on it and have patrolled it since day 1.

I don't have social media and I'm really glad. I don't know how any of you cope with those local Facebook groups, I'd have mass murdered everyone in my road by now. Unfortunately all the dementoring I'm getting has been straight down my ear hole in the form of phone calls with family and friends. They've all gone absolutely bonkers. Even the ones I previously thought were quite normal are now spouting conspiracy theories about secret government plans to kill off the elderly. This thread is my only haven of sanity.

psychomath · 18/05/2020 12:18

Lilac no idea what it's like in London but here it was very quiet until about week 4, and now everything is practically back to normal again (obviously apart from queueing for things). Most of the shops are supermarkets, takeaways or spend half the time shuttered anyway so even the streets don't feel that weird.

rookiemere · 18/05/2020 12:19

I really don't understand the logic of closing off places and car parks as it just causes extra demand on the areas that are left.

DominaShantotto · 18/05/2020 12:19

Sent another email to school pleading to get DD2 classed as vulnerable because of the state of her mental health and language regression. Expecting it to fall on deaf ears again though.

Khione · 18/05/2020 12:20

Latest on AIBU

someone has phoned the police about someone stroking her cat - and is upset that they've told her it is not a police matter.

Please tell me that is a wind up from someone on this thread

ThatLibraryMiss · 18/05/2020 12:22

Catching up on a few pages...

Apparently that lake dying went on before lockdown as well, I can't remember why though

They’ve been doing it since 2013. The lake’s lovely colour is caused by chemicals that leach from the old mine workings, causing a pH of 11.3. Note the absence of aquatic plants and life in it because it’s toxic and nothing can grow in it.

I'm worried I'm going to be feeling mega depressed come January

If you can take a holiday then I can really recommend a winter sun break in January/February. It tops up the vitamin D a treat and lying in the sun feeling the warmth through to your bones reminds you that summer will come again. Or maybe that's just me.

From the Exercise class in Birmingham video:
Darren Kelly tweeted: "I just hope their not in a hospital in a few weeks on a respirator thinking to themselves how did I catch covid-19 and give to my family ? Oh yeah me and my mates acted like total t*. Never mind."

Oh Darren, you don’t hope that at all, do you? You’d be absolutely delighted if they and their families all suffered terribly because they broke your RULES.

The Police and Cat thread Grin

DominaShantotto · 18/05/2020 12:23

Khione we've had to be very very careful in terms of even mentioning other threads as people think we're worthy of being banned and shut down. There's no way any of the posters on these threads would risk actively trolling another thread as if we lose this - for many of us we lose the only sane place we seem to have right now.

Orangeblossom78 · 18/05/2020 12:23

the Lake- They’ve been doing it since 2013... why though? is it dangerous? Thanks btw

Dowser · 18/05/2020 12:24

Springersrock
It only takes the odd one to break out
Our beach last night was swarming with folks..walking along the prom, on the beach
Fair gladdened our hearts it did, as we drove past shouting fuck off to all the lockdowned car parks.

It’s the only way to save our sanity.
Was going to go for a good day out today but it’s a bit Grey so might stay local.

Might also make dh some cakes..he’s been dropping hints and is looking a bit murderous....

Khione · 18/05/2020 12:28

@Mascotte

ah sorry - I didn't think, I won't mention any more threads. Fortunately even on AIBU most people realise that that is 'silly'.

Dowser · 18/05/2020 12:33

Yes, I did think that lake looked unnaturally blue.
Very pretty though.
Wonder if it’s from something like copper sulphate
Can’t believe the grey today..I thought that it of rain last night might’ve cleared the air and the glorious sunshine would be back.
Now then ..what can I do to improve my mental health today.
That doesn’t involve making cakes.
It’s a bit late for a drive to the lakes....hmmm

justasking111 · 18/05/2020 12:34

We have a lake in Wales that is sterile, mine workings, crystal clear water, it is not banned from use though. I suppose it depends on what is polluting it. Some demontors had a go at boats polluting it when in actual fact....

“The stream that runs straight through the popular picnic area by Lake Geirionydd has high levels of zinc, lead, manganese, aluminium and cadmium – an extremely toxic compound. ..

justasking111 · 18/05/2020 12:36

That wanker in Wales is going to set up a mental health line for children locked up. Because they cannot go back to school. FFS

Orangeblossom78 · 18/05/2020 12:37

I'm sorry I have been mentioning threads too...will try and stop.. (I think general 'topics' might be OK though)

Drivingdownthe101 · 18/05/2020 12:38

What the fuck use is a mental health line to young kids? They need contact with other kids the same age, not tips on fucking mindfulness.

justasking111 · 18/05/2020 12:39

Oh our police are getting coughed on spat on, English trying to get into Wales unacceptable, two examples he discussed. Stay home, stay local.

Allnamesaregone · 18/05/2020 12:39

2 deaths in Scotland in the last 24 hours.
This compares with approximately 18 per day who die from heart failure and 45 who die from cancer.

Mascotte · 18/05/2020 12:39

@SophieB100 hello!

@Nihiloxica if you're still reading, I think loads of us are feeling a bit like this just now.

Though as I'm shallow I'm amused by the cat stroking 😂

Orangeblossom78 · 18/05/2020 12:39

Bit of a shame to dye it black but there we go, maybe a sign would be better

In France we have gone in gorges which here would be considered dangerous in terms of the drops..

they just put signs up telling of the dangers and 'be aware of the risks'..

SockYarn · 18/05/2020 12:40

FUCKS SAKE.

Saint Nicola has just said that she's not even allowing us to do things that England can do like meeting up with one person, golfing or relaxing in any way whatsoever until at least 28th May.

Fucks sake.

Orangeblossom78 · 18/05/2020 12:41

I wonder of Wales and Scotland might have protests soon about being kept in. Just off phone to my elderly dad up there who sounded sad (not riotous though)

Orangeblossom78 · 18/05/2020 12:41

She won't want to follow Boris maybe. Maybe this will come back on her they will get fed up..
