Irritating visitors!

Just thinking about how visitors can start to grate after a few days! I have endless stories of poor behaviour but the quickest I got fed up with a guest was in the car on the way TO our house after collecting them from the airport - they turned the radio to another channel without asking!!!! Instantly I was enraged! They stayed a couple of weeks and I counted every day!!! Grrrrr! Anyone else have any similar experiences?

Nearly everyone who visited after I gave birth but that was probably more to do with my shitty mood.

ruthieness · 15/05/2020 21:32

Guests who announce that they have saved so much money freeloading at our house that they have ordered themselves some luxury item - expensive perfume or cosmetics! but guess what? No gift for me! Grrrr!

Uhm, probably MIL who has to have milky coffee with one brown sugar at 11AM Hmm Luckily her visits were rare even before lock down.

Why would you even have the radio on if you have other people in the car with you?

iklboo · 15/05/2020 21:44

A week after DS was born FIL & his wife drove up from Wales. They brought FIL's very elderly parents without mentioning it (not a lot of room in the house). Came trundling in, FIL says to me 'are you putting the kettle on, then?' DH said no, he'll do it. FIL rolls his eyes.

FIL's wife grabs DS's feet & bounces them up & down saying 'ooh I love babies feet'. DS was asleep - she woke him up.

They get out some sandwiches & cake they'd brought with them. Crumbs everywhere. FIL rubs them into the carpet with his foot.

FIL's dad says he needs a wee. The stairs are very steep. FIL goes to his car and gets a FUCKING BUCKET for his dad to piss in. His dad does his business in the bucket on the kitchen then comes in the front room swinging it about asking what he should do with it.

They stayed bloody ages, not taking the hint about me needing to feed DS and bath him. When they finally went I cried for about an hour. DH made excuses for months why they couldn't come up again.

Sunbeam18 · 15/05/2020 21:47

Eh? What's wrong with having the radio on with other people in the car??

EKGEMS · 15/05/2020 21:53

It's music on with people in the car hardly a drive-by shooting!

ruthieness · 15/05/2020 22:29

Guests who drink our wine but then "contribute" by getting a bottle of something we don't like - we do not drink gin!!!! and then drinking it themselves!

or make themselves a cup of tea and do not offer us …. even if we are in the same room!!! Grrrrrr!

Iklboo - that is awful!

I am surprised it was years not months before they were allowed to visit again!

Sparklfairy · 15/05/2020 22:35

we do not drink gin!!!!

You cannot admit this on MN. You must name change immediately Grin

iklboo · 15/05/2020 22:50

@ruthieness - I still don't really like FIL & his wife much. Grandparents sadly passed now but if I can avoid visits I will, even though they've moved to our city. I pretend it's funny now but part of me still seethes Grin.

ProseccoBubbleFantasies · 15/05/2020 22:53

I miss visitors 😞

Dieu · 15/05/2020 22:56

What's wrong with the coffee situation?! HmmConfused

ruthieness · 15/05/2020 22:58

I think I will save the drive by shooting for people that put washing in the machine - then leave it in there wet for three days!

or put the machine on for two t shirts and a pair of socks! Grrrrr!

MIL? Grin

Aclh13 · 15/05/2020 23:07

I once enrolled in a student exchange programme whilst at secondary school and the girl who came to our house (from germany) was horrendous, she stunk, refused to speak any english, only ate chocolate, my mum went out of her way to get her mcdonalds one evening because she refused to eat anything else and she spat out chicken nuggets all over the floor. She hid the key to her own suitcase and tried to accuse us of breaking it before it fell out of her bag. (wanted 200 pound to replace the case!) then expected me to go out and stay with her family in return, I hastily refused and put it down to illness!

amusedbush · 15/05/2020 23:07

I have to have the radio on when driving. I'm like a budgie - I need background chatter and a mirror to keep me company Grin

doesthissoundok · 15/05/2020 23:16

Me too Prosecco I'd really appreciate the distraction, even if they were a bit difficult Sad

EngagedAgain · 15/05/2020 23:28

@iklboo - wtaf that takes the bloody biscuit!

pondypandy · 15/05/2020 23:31

Every member of DH's family who has ever come to stay with us (he's from abroad) has shown up with zero plans or clue as to what they're going to do whilst in our country. As a result muggins here ends up googling and booking and arranging and driving and accompanying them to touristy crap that i don't want to do!! They ALL roll out the classic "i don't mind" when asked what they'd like to do. I swear, next visitor can sit on my couch and watch The Chase for a week coz if they "don't mind" then great coz that's what I like to do.

pondypandy · 15/05/2020 23:33

Also MIL coming to stay for a month, bringing 4 pairs of knickers and about 3 changes of clothes so constantly hand washing things and draping them around my furniture.

Ginfordinner · 15/05/2020 23:36

If I have someone in the car with me we talk to each other. I can't hear someone very well over the radio.

NeedToKnow101 · 15/05/2020 23:39

Ew iklboo!
I really like having visitors to stay (usually various cousins from different countries) but we live in a small flat so it's pretty difficult.
I used to love taking people out and about in London but nowadays (BC - before covid) I can't be arsed so I'm always relieved if they have their own plans.

BackforGood · 15/05/2020 23:46

@Ginfordinner Most of us are able to have the radio on in the background and chat to people. It really isn't that difficult.
