What will you no longer spend money on post-lockdown?

I've had a bit of a wake up call, as i am lucky that my bank account is a lot healthier right now.

I normally work in London and fritter tonnes away on coffee, Pret lunches and random odd things from TK Maxx each week.

I'm shocked at what I've wasted.

Whenever / if ever we can go back, I'm definitely not buying lunch or coffee every day again.

Anyone else the same?,

Shellac. I'm doing my own. Other than that I can't wait to get out and spend some money Grin

middleager · 15/05/2020 13:29

Top up shops
Haircuts
Cinema
Contact lenses

middleager · 15/05/2020 13:30

Though my kids may both need glasses after lockdown Sad

Impulsive 'ooh that'd be nice' purchases in general. Never really realised how often I was buying unnecessary items until now when I haven't been able to, and we don't notice it or feel like we're missing anything at all!

Racheyg · 15/05/2020 13:42

I would love to say lots of things but in reality, I have spent more.
More on food for the 4 of us.
More on petrol as I am now driving to and from the office

I havent had my nails, eyebrows or waxing done but spent that money on clothes :(

ive reported my post as clearly in wrong topic! Sorry.

Notso · 15/05/2020 13:49

We've been spending more in lockdown so I'm really looking forward to cutting back a bit.

I've learned I can food shop more efficiently though, so will try and keep that up.

I can't wait to get my brows waxed, nails done, hair cut, have a massage, look in a book shop and have a coffee out.

myangelalex · 15/05/2020 14:00

I just want to go out and splurge. Amazon just isn't enough for me.

Bertoldbrecht · 15/05/2020 14:00

I just hope that our one good bookshop (waterstones) won't shut down, equally a local independent coffee shop that I go in once a week with a friend for a brew and chat, and all the other smallish local businesses that don't have the financial oomph that the big multinational ones do ! Our town in the NW is already on its knees, quite deprived tbh and I can sadly see it hitting rock bottom because of all this.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 15/05/2020 14:06

Gym membership. I've been using les mills at home and enjoying being able to fit in a workout much easier. And I've bought weights etc. so want to get my money's worth.

I'll definitely be going back to the hairdressers though!

sirfredfredgeorge · 15/05/2020 15:26

Oh I'll still be spending all my money! Just on other stuff. What I've saved on groceries this last 2 months has bought me a new bed. I've just decided I can do better things than waste it in Asda every day

But it's a big difference purchasing things where a lot of the value comes from overseas or raw materials and purchasing things where the majority of the value comes from people.

100 quid on a restaurant meal or a haircut puts a lot more money into the economy than 100 quid on a bed.

lazylinguist · 15/05/2020 15:37

Can't think of anything tbh! The thing I'm mostly saving money on is petrol, but I'll need to start paying for that again when I go back to work.

I never ever pop into cafés and shops during the week, because I don't work in a town, so don't really have the opportunity to!

JovialNickname · 15/05/2020 15:53

Another one for haircuts - I thought when I did mine it would look about 20% as good as going to a professional hairdresser, in fact it looks about 80-90% as good (does help that I have long straight hair though!)

chunkyrun · 15/05/2020 15:55

Coffee.... I'm lying to myself though. I know I'll fall back into old habits and start getting a quick brew here and there

peaceanddove · 15/05/2020 16:19

Hair!!! I have paid my stylist £45 every six weeks for my short, feathery urchin cut. Turns out I can do it just as well, and actually better if I'm honest. My stylist never got it quite choppy enough for my liking though I'm sure she was technically very good.

I've been in and out of hospital a lot these last two months and several nurses have commented on how good my hair looks and assumed I must be a hairdresser when I said I had cut it myself Smile

justkeeprunning5 · 15/05/2020 16:28

Takeaway coffee (will still enjoy the odd coffee day in a coffee shop), Pret porridge and impulse beauty purchases from Boots!

I would say I’d cut down takeaway lunches but I am so bored by cheese / chicken sandwiches after 8 weeks of this I know I will be running back to M&S / Pret / Itsu!

LizzieLoafer · 15/05/2020 16:29

100 quid on a restaurant meal or a haircut puts a lot more money into the economy than 100 quid on a bed.

I agree. I have a list of restaurants that I can't wait to go to when we are able to.
I just want to spend less than £800pm in Asda. The money I hope to save grocery shopping will be spent well on other treats.

greasyspooncafe · 15/05/2020 16:35

Those who have cut and coloured their own hair --- tips and advice please! Did you use YouTube vids as a guide?

richele4 · 15/05/2020 16:39

Gym memberships - home workouts are great!
Acrylic nails - nails long enough now and I don't need to spend the unnecessary money.

ilovemydogandmrobama2 · 15/05/2020 16:48

Pizza - we have been making our own
Bread - making our own
Flat breads - ditto
Hummus - making own

limesoda · 15/05/2020 17:41

The coffee thing makes me very, very nervous. I run a cafe, the type that people do buy work lunches from. I'm not even sure when my regulars will be back in the office TBH.

MarshaBradyo · 15/05/2020 17:47

Where I go for coffee will be ok when they open I think (tiny but great park cafe) but I can understand food and drink in the city will be nervous.

katie43210 · 15/05/2020 17:54

Definitely coffee. Paying for haircuts for oh shall remain after I forgot to put a guard on the clippers and zero'd him. He is still not amused. I, on the other hand, am.

HasaDigaEebowai · 15/05/2020 17:59

More on stuff for the home and garden since we are spending so much time here and I think that will continue into the future.

Less on overseas travel.
