New thread!

Chicken ads for anyone who missed them.

Anyway have fun everyone, I'm off to sit in the park now that it's allowed.

@Mascotte the golf courses are, to be fair, a bit of a sore point in some local authorities. They take up loads of space, are used by an ever decreasing number of players and are expensive to run, plus they cost loads and some authorities have multiple courses within easy travelling distance, even without the private courses. I think it might be a good thing in the long run if some of the municipal courses that weren't used very well before all this are turned into parks. Slightly off topic, sorry.

Willitneverend · 13/05/2020 23:33

Is anyone else getting a mega dementor sponsored post from Nethuns on their FB? It's that viral letter from a school in England saying they dont want to reopen and loads of comments saying that everyone will die, basically. It's not enticing me to join.

MorrisZapp · 13/05/2020 23:44

I got that nethun pish. There are quite a few anti dementor comments on it, I gave a particularly well written one a round of applause.

justasking111 · 13/05/2020 23:45

It is like that caricature of a man walking round with a sandwich board stating the world ends tomorrow

Willitneverend · 13/05/2020 23:51

@MorrisZapp i just couldn't face reading it all! I got to to one about someone saying it was their "right to stay at home" and was thinking yeah, but it's also your employers right to sack you if you won't attend work!

Have any Scottish folk on here noticed more odd behaviour locally in the last few days? I've seen stories about streets being shut down in Govan and Inverclyde (think latter was drive by shooting), and a suicide. Locally - and I dont want to say anything too identifying - there have been a couple of really weird incidents involving older people being very aggressive.

LilacTree1 · 13/05/2020 23:57

There’s a common sense thread trending on MN

Well, I’m not sure it’s what the OP was saying but good responses.

justasking111 · 14/05/2020 00:03

Willitneverend. We have had a couple of weird incidents in certain parts of Wales. I think people are cracking up now. Boris opening up England has polarised things in Wales somewhat. Certainly the elderly who may have mental health problems which were smoothed over in normal times have come to the surface under the strain.

LilacTree1 · 14/05/2020 00:21

Will - being aggressive in a dementing way?

There’s massive cracks everywhere so it could be other stuff.

Willitneverend · 14/05/2020 00:28

@justasking111 that's both reassuring in that it's not just here and not in that its widespread.

Nowhere seems to manage lockdown for more than around 2 months without at least announcing an unlock plan, Wuhan was 59 days (they obviously did it properly not like us yada yada). But I'm hoping we're not going to get shunted into some sort of mad experiment on how much longer people can cope in an effort to prove some sort of moral superiority.

LilacTree1 · 14/05/2020 00:36

Will “ But I'm hoping we're not going to get shunted into some sort of mad experiment on how much longer people can cope in an effort to prove some sort of moral superiority.”

Seems likely I’m afraid. What’s the situation in Scotland re visits to friend or family- complete ban?

I never had a view on NS but I sure do now.

Willitneverend · 14/05/2020 00:38

@LilacTree1 older, affluent elderly people lifting plants that arent valuable, rare or particularly useful from gardens, then lying and getting angry when asked what they're doing. It doesn't appear to be dementor-y (although the dementors here appear to be getting worse), although might be interpreted as someone going stir crazy. We are allowed unlimited exercise here now but I can entirely understand people becoming a bit mad about what is and isn't acceptable and within the law balanced against what they can cope with. Particularly as theres no exit strategy here.

Willitneverend · 14/05/2020 00:43

@LilacTree1 Complete ban unless they're dying or need practical care, in practice a bit of leeway for bereaved families, but nobody is sure how much.

LilacTree1 · 14/05/2020 00:46

Will that’s horrendous. So another three weeks you can’t even meet a friend for a walk?

The plants - I wonder if it’s an urge to break the law.

I hope there is a huge amount of pushback against Sturgeon for this.

LostJobtoday · 14/05/2020 00:51

I’ve lost my job today, entirely unexpected so the dementors can fuck the fuck off. I didn’t deserve this any more than anyone deserves to get the virus

LilacTree1 · 14/05/2020 01:06

Lost shit, I’m sorry. I lost mine at the start of this. I feel for you Flowers

Listening to people rant about lives vs economy.....😱😱😱😱

Mascotte · 14/05/2020 03:26

@LilacTree1the SNP has a weird slightly cult like hold so its followers all over Facebook are really pleased with her. Weird. Also in their view anything different to Rngjshd is good and strangely there's no blame attached to the fact that our numbers are worse, or the same lack of preparation as down south, though everything there is the English government's fault. Whereas to my mind they seem to have done pretty much the same but NS has now decided to keep us in longer. I don't get it. No parks, meetings, driving to exercise, sunbathing. No mention schools.

But my old relatives have obviously listened only to Boris as I keep getting messages saying it's good I'll be back to work now. 😂

Mascotte · 14/05/2020 03:26

England, not the weird Rng word

LilacTree1 · 14/05/2020 03:29

I don’t know much about Scottish independence but I came across this

www.effiedeans.com/2020/05/scottish-independence-just-died-from.html

Mascotte · 14/05/2020 03:43

@LilacTree1 there's a bitter divide between unionists and nationalists. I'd be scared to say bad stuff about the nats on sm as you just get pelters from the supporters. I'm no fan of Boris et al either and was more for independence since the Brexit debacle. But the position now seems to me to be very strange.

Allnamesaregone · 14/05/2020 04:19

I’m Scottish too, and ready to start moving about more. The only place I’ve been since lockdown, apart from for a walk, is the supermarket, and more recently work for short spells.
The cynic in me is saying that Nicola is extending lockdown here just because she can. Then I wonder if she’s got it right and Scotland is behind the curve.
If this thing isn’t ever going to go away (I reckon it’ll just keep mutating) we’re going to have to learn to live with it at some point.

TitianaTitsling · 14/05/2020 06:51

all dh and were cynically discussing this yesterday- wondering if BJ had said 'nope continue lockdown' would NS have done 'no! You'll never take our freedom' route?

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 14/05/2020 07:03

@Mascotte NS really needs to take a long hard look at things properly before this next 3 weeks ends, my area has had no increase in positive tests for over a week now. There was a video yesterday if her saying we can’t just send people back to work but keep the rest of their lives locked down (swipe at Boris?) so don’t know what to take from that

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 14/05/2020 07:04

@Allnamesaregone wish you were in my area then it is FULL of dementors who lack critical thinking

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 14/05/2020 07:05

@Allnamesaregone on the curve point I get myself tied up in knots over this. We were told at work when we locked down 7 weeks ago that we were 2 weeks behind London, in 2 weeks we would be inundated with patients. They never can thank god. Now they are waiting for the second wave, I said I’m still waiting for the first bugger 😂

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 14/05/2020 07:27

I saw the WHO warning headlined on the BBC news page this morning - that the virus may never go away - and am not at all ashamed to admit that my first thought was that the dementors would be tangled in confused paroxysms of complicated joy that they have been proven right that WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE and horror that they've been proven wrong and WE JUST NEED TO FUCKING GET OUT THERE AND GET ON WITH LIFE if that's the case.
