What is your favourite spirit to drink at home?

I've been a lifelong beer and wine drinker and never really drank spirits apart from in cocktails. The last few times I've had beer it has given me a horrible headache and I'm bored of wine.

Joe Wicks had a raspberry gin and rhubarb drink on his Instagram that looked interesting, but how would I recreate that at home? Is rhubarb juice a thing? Do they sell it in Lidl? Recommend me a drink to look forward to this weekend! 🥂

Malibu and pineapple juice is delicious, especially over ice. Can't really help you with gin, I only like very basic plain g&t. Can confirm that grapefruit tonic is rank though

iklboo · 11/05/2020 17:24

They make rhubarb flavour gins and raspberry flavour ones too. They're my favourite ones.

not really a drinker but indulge in the odd baileys with an ice cube

I love Hendricks gin (Aldi do a fabulous dupe called Harrison's for £15). I mix that with elderflower cordial, soda water and sliced cucumber. It is lovely, sweet and refreshing.

Aldi also do an elderflower flavoured soda water instead of buying cordial and soda separately but it's a bit hit and miss as to whether they have it in.

DarylDixonsHair · 11/05/2020 17:42

What do you mix with flavoured gins? Just tonic water as normal?

Plain tonic for flavoured find, but it's aaaall about the garnish. I have a mandarin and grapefruit gin which I serve with a slice of pink grapefruit.

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 11/05/2020 17:44

Flavoured gins even

SuperPixie247 · 11/05/2020 17:44

Vanilla vodka and coke. Tastes too much like pop!

Xmasfairy86 · 11/05/2020 17:46

Lemonade! With most flavoured gins is the way forward. Whitley Neil do a gorgeous rhubarb and ginger gin.

Xmasfairy86 · 11/05/2020 17:47

Tanqueray Sevilla Gin is lovely also

Mixitupalot · 11/05/2020 17:52

Whiskey & coke with lots of ice. Gin give me the most awful hangover for two days!!

HerRoyalNotness · 11/05/2020 17:53

Absolut make an elderflower vodka. I just have it with sprite.

Lately I’ve been making vodka Lycée martini’s.

timeforawine · 11/05/2020 17:54

Dark rum and coke Grin
Pink gin and lemonade

notacooldad · 11/05/2020 17:55

What do you mix with flavoured gins?
Lemonade. I find tonic to dry for my taste.

trebleclef101 · 11/05/2020 17:57

Disaronno with ice. I used to drink Licor 43 until I moved countries, I can't get it where I live now Sad

okiedokieme · 11/05/2020 17:58

Tonic and rhubarb gin (Lidl) here

DarylDixonsHair · 11/05/2020 18:00

Oh God, my mouths watering reading this thread. I'm not keen on sweet fizzy drinks like coke or lemonade. Vodka lycee martini sounds very sophisticated.

Southern Comfort and coke with ice. Doesn't taste that alcoholic but very nice.

Chocolatear · 11/05/2020 18:03

Gin & tonic or Pimm's in the warm weather. Whisky and ginger ale when it's colder.

I'm generally not a fan of flavoured gin but I do have a rather nice grapefruit one. I like Brockman's gin as well.

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 11/05/2020 18:06

I recently discovered Fentiman's Rose Lemonade, which is delicious with gin, and not too fizzy.

Starrynightsabove · 11/05/2020 18:07

Fentimans do really nice flavoured tonics. Pink Rhubarb and Clementine are nice. If you want something sweeter their Rose Lemonade is lovely

ShutUpaYourFace · 11/05/2020 18:10

Golden Rum with Coke Zero and Ice 🤪
There are loads of different rums. The older they are the better, the more expensive they are the better. Amazon often has some good deals.

Bargainhuntbore · 11/05/2020 18:31

Gin. I make my own blackberry, bilberry and rhubarb. Loads of fruits in my freezer.

lachy · 11/05/2020 18:35

Gin and tonic, it's been my drink of choice for 28 years.

Specifically Bombay Sapphire, plain tonic and lime.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 11/05/2020 18:37

Normal dry gin with tonic and loads of ice
